Who uses a metal detector (and what kind)??

Think I'm getting the bug to buy a metal detector. Figure I can pay for it the first time out when I find that 10k diamond ring:) Just wondering who else does it and what kind of detector would you recommend?? I want one that is good enough to make it fun and keep me interested. I'm guessing it's like rving, once you buy the first one you realize you really need a bigger (better, more effective) one after all:) Any info appreciated.

PineSol as a holding tank additive...??

Just read an interesting article ( http://www.squidoo.com/rvdumping ) about using PineSol as a holding tank additive. Just wondering if anyone has heard or this or is using it????

Has anyone read Lawrence Chance (new RV detective)?

Was wondering if anyone has read the new book by Lawrence Chance? I believe the title is Towed in a Hole. It's about a guy that helps out people (for a fee), lives in an RV, and has a sidekick in LasVegas. Sounds alot like the old Travis McGee novels my McDonald. Should be rather interesting. The only thing I found on Amazon was one rating that was very good and another rating by someone who admitted they hadn't read the book (so why in the world would you rate it...). Anyway, just curious if anyone here has read it.??

Air Horns don't want to work....??

Bully air horns seem to have quit working. Before, when switch on dash was off the regular ole steering wheel horn worked and when the switch was on the air horns worked. Now the regular horn works whether the switch is on or off. I have checked fuses (both deash and in-line), I have checked connections (and all seem tight), I have checked air pressure (lots of it). Any other ideas????

Who uses a weather radio.....and which one??

Was at the Oregon coast a couple of weeks ago and a totally unexpected storm came up. About 1/2 inch rain in less than 1/2 hour followed by high winds (gusts in excess of 50). Luckily we had closed our awning the night before and didn't open it during this particular day. Unfortunately at least four other folks lost their awnings. 3 completely ripped off and one arms torn loose and awning blew up over the top of the MH and hanging off the other side. Heard one guy saying his weather alert radio had gone off but still only had 20 minutes warning before this freak storm hit. At least 20 min would give me more warning than.....nada. Anyone currently using a weather alert radio and what kind? Anything in particular you would recommend I look for in this type of radio??

RE: Anyone towing a 2009 Forester???

OOPS....My mistake..... :o Was looking at the towing guide on-line and just didn't notice that it is broken up into passenger cars and trucks/SUV's. Did find the Forester sooooo on with the hunt and the aggravation of actually trying to buy one. Not a big fan of dealing with car dealerships.

Anyone towing a 2009 Forester???

Looking hard at a new Forester. I thought I had heard (on this site)that they can be towed four down if manual transmisssion. Looking the the MH Mag dingy guide the Forester is the only Suburau NOT listed. BUT...looking at the owners manual (on-line) there is a method for towing it. Anyone doing it and if so what do you have to do?? i.e. pull a fuse, just put in neutal and go, or ??? Thanks

09 Forester as a toad (brake safety feature).....?

I plan to tow an 09 Forester behind my motorhome. The Forester has a safety feature that applies the brakes all the way if it thinks it is a panic stop. I use a brake buddy when towing behind the motorhome. Does anyone know if the brakes will be put on (by the safety feature) as in a panic stop if the brake buddy applies the brakes???

cleaning slideout seals

I know I need to put something on the seals around the slideout to preeserve the rubber and make things slide easy. What is the recommended product or way to do this? I did see some stuff at CW for $11 a can. Spray on and you're done (no wiping off). Is this the way to go or are there better products and ways to do this? Thanks in advance for any info.

Which anti-virus program??

My AVG 7.5 is expiring and no longer supported. Hence, I need to upgrade to 8.0. Before I pay for another license thought I would check and see what you computer gurus are using for anti-virus and spam?? I have a desktop and a laptop that will both need protection.

RE: President's Club

The discount is 10%, the cost to join is about $20, hence you need to spend $200 to breakeven on the deal. Easy to figure if it's worth it or not. It was worth it when we first started RVing but haven't been members for years as we don't spend enough at CW to make it worth while.

RE: Annuities working for FullTimers?

It's really like anything else. BE CAREFUL and research what you are getting into. In todays market a 6% return isn't so bad. Alot also depends on your investment timeline. Close to retirement, a long way to go, currently in retirement.....etc I have some $ in an annuity (large, long-time insuracne company) that pays 6%. Return is pegged on the amount you invest and then adjusted annually. If the market it down the 6% is paid on less dollars the next year and if the market is up then it is on higher dollars. Adjusted annually. Must leave dollars in for 4 years. There is a graduated penalty for early withdrawl...something like 7% the first year, 6% years 2 and 3, and 4% the fourth year. In todays volatile markets they are not bad investments for a percentage of your portfolio just not all that good when the market does turn around, if you have your money tied up in annuities. No I don't sell them, I do a little investing (for retirement) and a lot of research. The fees paid (generally 3 to 4%, which are high as far as investig fees go) are paid from the entire fund and not just your investment. 3% of the funds a broker has invested will not equal 3% of your funds alone (unless you are the only funds the broker has invested with a particular annuity). Brokers generally charge a fee for manageing your account but waive this fee for any dollars in an annuity (as the annuity pays them). Be very very leery of a broker that doesn't discount standard fees for dollars invested in annuities (in-fact running the other way comes to mind). Good luck with whatever you decide.

County Coach Bankrupt

Todays Oregonian (major Oregon newspaper) reports that Country Coach has filed for an involuntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Involuntary -- three creditors can ban together and take a company into bankruptcy. A couple of the owners were part of the three in order to keep the bank from foreclosing on assets. Basically a stalling action as at the creditors meeting the bank has a major hand in whether to approve the filing. It does put off the bank for a month or two as Country Coach puts together a plan. RE: Input for a new toad....help

Jallen, no I wasn't referring to the Jeep and a 4 cyl. I was just refering to 4 and/or 6 cyls in general. Been a long time since I've driven either (especially the 4 cyl in anything). Hoepfully I will be pleasantly surprised.

RE: Input for a new toad....help

Geez, how's that for timing...just got my FMCA Mag and guess what? Yep, it's the 2009 toad issue. BTW, the fust thing isn't a deal breaker I just wanted to know what people are towing and what they might have to do to make things work. Currently on my list is Subaru, Honda and Jeep. Really starting to shy away from the jeep due to several issues. I am alittle concerned about power in the 4 and 6 cylinder motors. Guess I'll have to drive them and see how it goes ... Pun intended:)

Input for a new toad....help

Okay, current toad is a Jeep. 5 years old and seriously thinking of replacing. Of course another Jeep is on the list but really have no idea what else might be out there. Sooooo, what do you tow (4 down, no dollies)??? Pluses --- minuses... Any modifications needed or fuses pulled, etc etc All responses greatly appreciated.
