RE: 2014 GM Pickup Fuel Economy and Tow Ratings Announced

I think this is great news. Don't forget GM lost some time to revamp it's lineup while being in financial difficulty. It's no secret many GM clients jump the fence to RAM and FORD both of which have a very very impressive truck.
Time will tell. Until it's out there in the real world we can only speculate.
Kudos to GM.

RE: Half ton , full size pickup choice- advice

With proper maintenance, all trucks can last 15+ years.
I'd recommend the F-150 with the 5.0, if not the RAM with it's 5.7.
Good luck.

RE: Change your shocks!

Depending on the road conditions of your surroundings, the average life of shocks is ~ 5 years. Swap them and you will feel the difference.

RE: f150 8200gvw

My co-worker has one and is very happy with it. As a note, you can get the 8200 GVWR with the big 6.2L V8.
Enjoy your new Ford. :)

RE: Hello Ram 1500 Diesel!

Kudos to RAM. Many have been complaining and whining about having just that: a small diesel 1/2 ton pickup. I think this is a niche market and we might be surprised by the sales figures.
Having said that, they will probably revisit the payload factor and maybe offer a 8200 GVWR truck.
Presently the Crew cabs have around 1500lbs of payload. Not sure the air suspension balloons would hold up.
If RAM builds it right, it should increase it's market share. They are making their move while GM is sleeping.

RE: Ford F150 or F250 Comparison

Going by your description, I would lean towards the F150 8200. If you do choose the SuperDuty, go straight to the F-350 for added payload of the fifth wheel pin weight.

For those like me who saw it at the NAIAS. It stole the show and received a few awards. Here is a youtube clip that shows many features...
Ford Atlas concept
I thought is was more of a SuperDuty.

So is that what you told your wife... too much sway lol.

RE: Replacing my 2010 F150 with a 2012 F150

I guess I've been living under a rock. With all the EcoBoost F-150s out there I've never heard of turbo related problems.
Is this a case where a few people ( say 0.05% of owners ) are having an issue now being advertised as an epidemic ?

RE: New truck will be too high

Not really...the GM trucks just ride low. I work with someone who has a Chevy 2500...if not for the "4x4" graphic, I would have thought it was a 2WD. My F-350 4x4 TOWERS over it. (Note: my truck is a stock-height 1979.)
Agree with you Jaraxle. The Ford and Dodge 4X4s are high.

RE: Would you notice a difference-5k lbs with a 1/2 vs 3/4 ton?

Anecdotes that have no basis in fact will not do anything to help the OP make an informed decision. My F-250 V-10 truck in no way resembles a Mustang with a 6 cyl (I owned a 68 like that). Along with disspelling that nonsense my gas powered truck has more payload than the equivalent diesel burdened one of the same year and configuration and easily pulls my 10k trailer quite handily and is rated for the same tow capacity as the diesel when it was produced.
I agree with the above poster. I don't know why some of you compare the 5.3 vs the 8.1 or the 5.4 vs the V10?
For a 5000lbs trailer, the 1/2 ton is perfect.

RE: Poll: You swapped gears. Would you do it again?

Going from 3.55 to 4.10 was nice. 4.56 would have been even better.
The Triton 5.4L comes alive at 3000rpm so find your comfortable towing speed and choose the gearing that will put you at that range. Good luck.

RE: 5.4L in a Super Duty?

I've said it before and will say it again... the 5.4L (particularly anything 2005, as in 3 valve, or newer), has got to be the most underrated/underestimated/under appreciated medium V-8 ever built. All you need to do is put your foot in it (and they will not mind it a bit). Max HP (300), is at 4500 and max torque (365), is at 3750. Yes you'll burn some fuel between 3200 and 4500 but the 5.4 won't care. Take your foot out of it and the mileage will amaze you. The more you drive it the better you will like it. :C
Well said Captain. X2
