Big Rig Diesel in West Yellowstone?

Hello All! I'd like to find a big rig friendly diesel stop in W. Yellowstone. Do any of you know if this is available? 37 foot "A" with toad, total 56 feet. Any ideas welcome (and yes, we could unhook if necessary). Thanks!

Wyoming Rte 26 between Dubois and Moran Junction

Does anyone have information on the current status of road repair between Moran Junction and Dubois? I have understood the construction will be ongoing during 2013. Is it mostly "finished" with one-lane travel in spots, or is the road still gravel and full of potholes? Planning to drive that route in mid-June. All information welcome. Thanks!

RE: Do Toad's Really Get Beat Up Back There? Looking at new CR-V

Michael: We've been towing our '07 CRV since new in '07. No dings or other problems except lots of dirt and "backwash" kicked up when it's raining. We used a Roadmaster "Guardian" rock shield for a while, but while it protected the CRV, it chipped the rear of the coach when the rocks bounced off it. We have used the Roadmaster "Tow Defender" for the past 3 years and still have dirt, but no chips or problems on the CRV or the RV. The Tow Defender takes about 1 minute to extend from the hitch to the CRV after the tow bar is hooked up. We love the CRV and it still looks new (after washing). Good luck in your decision.

Nevada 140 from N of Winnemucca NV to Klamath Falls, OR

Hoping to travel this route right after Labor Day 2013. Driving a 37 foot Class A with toad. Have plenty of range, but wondering about the condition of the road. Any crazy switchbacks or other problems along that route? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

RE: REPLACE SOFA/HIDE-A-BED

Wireman: If you think you need to swap out the sofa--you do! We did that and replaced it with 2 swivel glider chairs from Costco. MUCH, much less cost than RV furniture. The chairs are heavy enough to not move while traveling, but you can always thread the sofa seat belts around the chairs if need be. Makes our rig much more comfortable. Good luck!

RE: front engine diesel

Kenneth: Many of us would prefer a diesel "pusher," but we can't all afford the cost. We opted for a Newmar FRED and love it. The noise is greater than a pusher, but not intrusive enough to be a problem. I have only one ear that works and have little or no problem hearing my navigator while we're driving. When the fan comes on the noise level goes up, but like a previous poster noted--the front radiator keeps that from happening except under engine duress. I'd suggest you owe it to yourself to drive the 200 miles and see for yourself. Otherwise you'll always wonder if it might have been a better deal for you. Good luck with whatever rig you choose!

RE: Looking for a nice campground in Moab, Ut

By June it will be fairly hot in Moab--and fairly crowded. Check out the Moab activity schedule at:
http://www.discovermoab.com/calendar.htm
You might be able to "fit in" between some of those events. Enjoy!

RE: Grand Teton availability?

Dave: We stayed at Gros Ventre over July 4th last year. As long as you get there in the AM you should not have trouble finding a spot. We have solar panels, so we narrow our choices down to those without heavy tree cover. If you can get there a day or two earlier there will be no problem.

RE: Columbia River Gorge

Veebyes: Don't overlook Marymere State Park on the WA side at highway 97. Before summer vacation it should not be crowded and is a full-service campground. A few hundred yards drive to the Stonehenge replica and a couple of miles from Maryhill Museum. There are a couple of wineries within a mile or so also. We have used it as a base camp and driven the toad on both sides of the river. Wherever you stay, enjoy the beauty of the Gorge!

RE: Where to Stay when visting Zion National Park

smcrea:
I need to apologize for misleading you--Watchman has electric only--NO WATER hookup. And yes, there are NO showers in the park (though I did see a number of folks doing a cold water rinse at the water-fill spigots). You can re-fill your internal water tank at the dump station.
We have an internal shower and used it Navy style--very little water used.

RE: Where to Stay when visting Zion National Park

smcrea:
You might consider staying at the Watchman campground INSIDE the park. They have water and electric hookups at each site and a dump station. If you're old enough to qualify for a federal senior pass, the rate is very inexpensive.
We stayed there five days in May of this year in our 37 foot RV with toad. Many sites will accommodate 40-footers.
Wherever you stay, enjoy that gorgeous part of the world!

RE: RV Tow Car Shield

mmartinfan:
I would recommend you seriously consider such an item. We have the Roadmaster Tow Defender and LOVE it. No storage issues as it rests on the receiver hitch on the RV. Takes about a minute to roll it out and fix the cotter-like pins that hold it to the tow bar bracket on the toad. We have also used the Roadmaster Guardian rock shield that sits vertically in front of the toad. We think the Tow Defender works much better--the Guardian would "bounce" rocks back into the rear cap of the RV and chipped the paint in a couple of places.
The other devices also seem to work well and have good reputations. If you have Roadmaster tow gear, I'd suggest looking into something that is completely compatible.

RE: Cape Disappointment Reservations

Maybe we're just lucky, but we reserved site #20 at Cape D. to attend the International Kite Festival last month. Made reservation about 4 weeks ahead. The only problem was we could only get two consecutive nights. We'll make next year's reservations much earlier. Cape D. and Fort Stevens are both great campgrounds.

RE: How was your Labor Day Weekend?

Dry camping at Glacier National Park's St. Mary campground. Smoky sky on Aug 31, but the wind picked up that night and blew the smoke away. Gorgeous weather and sky. Hiked to Hidden Lake and to Iceberg Lake, visited Waterton township in Alberta. Our National Parks ROCK!

RE: Plans change----going to Long Beach, WA

Stayed at Anderson's RV last July. Nice facility. All 90 degree back-in sites. Power steady, don't remember the wi-fi. Easy access to the beach by a trail at the rear of the area. Enjoy!

RE: "Dog Walks" in and around Port Angeles area?

Not exactly what you were looking for, but the Olympic Discovery Trail goes between 7 Cedars and Sequim and Port Angeles and out to the RR Bridge trail alongside Lake Crescent. Lots of dogs (and horses) use the trail. The walk along Lake C is great.

RE: Banff, Canada

Montana Marine:
Returned from Lake Louise on Sunday 29 July. Diesel available at the Husky station at Lake Louise interchange (next to mall). NO Diesel at the Petro Canada station there. NO tunnels on Icefields Parkway, just a couple of hefty grades and one "big bend" curve. Road was a little bumpy in spots, but no major problems. Have a great trip!
