RE: 2010 Ford Edge

Thanks all for the responses.
Ours is a Front Wheel Drive only and is a SE model so it is about as light as it can be.
We did have a 2007 Saturn VUE that we towed for the last 2 1/2 years and it was good to tow but noisy, I think because of the plastic body panels, it also has had the computer and the ignition module replaced twice and it was starting to give the "lock out" warning again. So it had to go, cannot abide an unreliable vehicle.

RE: Why we can’t snowbird?

Sold the house and we only have the motor home to worry about. This year we are going to go to Omaha, NE for Christmas with our family (just in the car). Next Summer we are going to be volunteering for the South Dakota State Parks. I suppose some day we will have to grow roots again but hopefully not for a long while.

2010 Ford Edge

Just purchased a new Ford Edge FWD. Like the looks and ride how do those of you that are towing one like them? The procedure seems pretty simple. Any problems?

RE: Iowa to Texas

Just got to Mission coming down US81 from York, NE all pretty good road, some construction, but where will you travel 1200 -1500 miles and not have some construction. Worst place was Fort Worth on Saturday, there was a Blue Angles display at the airport and folks were backed up on I35W forever. Not usually this bad. We have come down and gone back up this road for 3 winters/springs now. Think it is the best.

RE: ? regarding RV Parks

Not only distance but foliage between. One park we worked at in Durango had Pinion pine between the site and it made them more private than the open one that were just as wide, in fact some wider.

RE: Motorcycle friendy CG in around Durango Co.

Motorcycles are a major part of the revenue for camp grounds in and around Durango. Any of them will be happy to accomodate you.
Lou
Worked at the Durango KOA last year, but visited the other camp grounds in the area they are all pretty much good people that own and work at them.

RE: San Juan Mountains in Colorado

Take US 160 west to Mancos, then Co 184 to Delores, then Co 145 to Placerville, then CO 62 to Ridgeway and finally 550 to Ouray. My opinion is that the "back side" of the San Juans is a prettier drive and much less "intense". While working in Durango last summer we made many trips between Durango and Ouray... on only one did we not have some one coming the other direction "share" our lane. Not too bad in the toad, where do you go with the RV? Many of those sharing your lane will be 5th wheels and travel trailers and semi trucks. They are afraid of the edge and hug the center line putting the wheels of the trailers over the line.

RE: Campground ridiculous prices

The KOA in Durango is for sale and when it sells it will no longer be a campground. The land is worth too much money to be able to charge enough to make the payments. It will be condos, and people will be falling all over themselves to buy them. In 5 years I predict that there will be no campgrounds IN Durango.

RE: Colorado

Eastern CO, all of NE and KS - pretty much all the same! :-)
Sorry Lauren, but 'll have to take issue with this statement. If you had left the word "all" out of it I would be ok. western Nebraska isn't at all like northern Nebraska or eastern Nebraska or southeastern Nebraska. The same can be said for Kansas. People drive the interstates through the planes states and then think they know what they are like.
A fellow from California made that statement once at a conference and I responded that I had been to Barstow,CA. so all of California must be hot dry dirty and unattractive.
OK, off my soap box.

RE: campground near Springfield, IL on I72 or HWY 36

IF I was to go to the Victorian Acres RV park, I would exit on Nebraska Hwt 2 near Lincoln and take it to Nebraska City. It is 4 lane divided highway and will be considerably shorter than I80 to I29 to Hwy 2 and then back west.

RE: Avon to Durango Co.?

The drive from Ouray to Durango will take darn close to 3 hours. I could make it in 2 1/2 in the toad but you will not be able to travel that fast in an RV.

RE: Tips for Trip from So Cal to Durango CO & Arches Park

When our 9 year old grandson visited us in Durango last summer his favorite things we took him to were: Alpine Slide at Durango Mountain Resort @ Purgatory, The City Water Park in Durango (it is indoors and really nice place) and Horse back riding at Elk Point on Vallecito Lake.
I agree with the others I would NOT drive my motor home up 550 between Silverton and Ouray. Last year we made 15 trips up and down that road and every trip but one I had several people coming towards me in MY LANE. Luckily I was in the toad and could move over a little. Several of those sharing my lane were RVs.

RE: Durango Train and Rafting Trips

We used Mild to Wild when our kids/grandkids visited us in Durango last year and recommended them to customers, of the campground where we worked, all the time. We felt they were very reasonable and the customer service was WAY above what was expected.

RE: Albuguerque to Durango, CO

Check with CDOT, last summer they started work on 550 and 160 intersection where they come together. There will be a detour, but it wouldn't hurt to know ahead of time.

RE: Texas or Arizona

Wind!!! I'm sitting here in eastern Nebraska with a 30 MPH wind gusting to 35 MPH and snow and a temperature of 30 degrees..... Why didn't I stay another 2 weeks in Mission, TX where I MAY have gusts to 30 once a month, but NO SNOW and temps in the 80s and 90s. The wind in the RGV from Weslaco to Mission is in my opinion a nonissue. Virtually every place I have lived has as much wind at times. That includes AZ, NM, OH,FL,CA and Hawaii. I spent some time in the military and lived in many places.

RE: Texas or Arizona

We just finished our second winter in Mission and will going back for a third, the Good Lord willing. MOST of the drug crime that is making the news is happening "south of the border" other than the same kind of drug crime that is going on in every city in the US. We go to Progresso about every 2 weeks and have never seen or heard any problems there.
There are some problems with theft of bicycles and also trucks. Many of the parks in "The Valley" have controlled access between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM and I haven't heard of any of those parks having problems.

I noticed that Twin Palms is on that search....don't bother calling they have been closed for nearly a year, purchased by the college. Of those on the search Mission Bell would be the closest that I would consider.

RE: Branson, MO - Campground with cabins

We have stayed at both ABC and the KOA. Both were friendly, but ABC had the most out of level sites I have ever been on and small also. It is also considerably further from the strip.

I-10 to Las Cruces, I-25 N to Cheyenne, East on I-80 to York, Ne then North on US81 to Yankton.
Exactly the way I would go. I hate I 76 from Denver to I 80.
