RE: Hurricane Irma Aftermath

I live in Big Pine, Fl. One of the hardest hit by Irma.
New homes in Monroe County are built to withstand 155 mph wind.
A lot of the new homes are modular, built in factories, of wood frame construction. They have such features as steel straps around the rafters, "hurricane" windows, and hardie board siding.
They are elevated, on concrete columns 8' or so high.
There is some added cost, but not a huge amount.

My next-door neighbors still haven't heard if their Bonita Springs house survived Irma;

RE: Bahia Honda SP

The above photos are from Sandspur campground. A campground for smaller vehicles and tents. Same thing in the last hurricane, Sandspur was closed for a couple of years. Not the same for the Buttonwood or the rest of the park.

RE: Bahia Honda SP

I have a house in Big Pine, right next to the deer and bird refuge. It's on the open water of Pine channel. I'm not there. I was watching my security cameras on my phone and saw that a 35' tree was down. This was at 6pm yesterday. The storm had hardly got started. I am no longer getting cameras on my phone. 120 mph wind was reported at the Big Pine refuge.

RE: Inverter use

I have a factory installed 3000 watt inverter. All of the "outlet" circuits are connected. Also lighting and microwave.

RE: Price thoughts on this fiver

I had a 2004 Newmar Mountain Aire. Paid $57 for it new, sold it 3 years ago for $24.
The Newmar was every bit as nice as that DRV and more! It had a gross of 20K, I think that DRV is 16K.

RE: Dexter EZ Lube ISSUE RESLOVED bad gun

To all of you still using the EZ Lube feature on your axle be aware of the issues with this system!! If you have been pumping away with your grease gun and nothing comes out there is the possibility that the rear seal has blown out and your are lubing your brake shoes and magnet assemblies. I highly recommend you pull your brake drums and inspect for grease on the brakes~!!! There are significant amounts of opinions on using the easy lube system but most experienced Rv'ers will only hand pack the bearings. Easy Lube is wonderful for boat trailers that get submerged in water but useless on any trailer with brake actuators operating on the highway. Do a search on this and other forums about this issue and you will find an overwhelming number of people have had major issues with grease on their brakes. Look at the Grand Design owners forum and see the issue with Lippert and the massive replacement of complete brake assemblies due to grease getting past the seal.
I agree with this guy. If you do fill the whole thing with grease and down the road you pull it off and clean out all of the grease---I doubt you will pump grease in again.

RE: Buses from Key West to Bahia Honda

Il be there Monday, site 26 :)
I remember you and site 26. I go over to Bahia Honda about every morning at around 8:30. If you see a orange Corvette--it's me.
There are some stairs behind your site that go up to US 1, but you would have to cross the road. I don't know where the south bound bus stop is?
Daughter and Fiance parked at the Big Pine Walgreens and took the bus to Key West and back on New Years Eve--worked real slick for them.

RE: Best Quality Motor Homes

Objectively in a class A gasser Tiffin has the best bones---heavier chassis, longer wheelbase than the competition, including Newmar. Newmar comes next, them Winnebago.
Newmar, Winnebago and Tiffin all use the Ford chassis.

RE: Value of trade when sent back to factory

A factory repair is better than no repair and most likely better than a dealer repair. It's certainly worth more than when unrepaired.
It reminds of when I hauled the Newmar from Florida to Indiana to get a slide floor replaced.

RE: Yukon Campgrounds and boondocking sites

Murray, I think I saw your house once. Probably 11-12 years ago. I think I remember standing on a bridge looking southwest.
Anyway, I didn't see Dawson Peaks on your campground list. On RVparkreviews someone in 2012 thought the "owners were tired". Looks like in 2015 someone said there was just a pay box and the "resort" was closed.
Know anything about the park or owners?

RE: Campground near Lincoln Nebraska?

Check out Cabella's in Lincoln. Stayed there a few years ago and was very nice and adjacent to the store.
Think you mean Sidney? There is also a Cabella's in Kearney, none in Lincoln.
There is Pawnee Lake State park a few miles west of Lincoln, north of Emerald. No sewer at the site.
So, it's Campaway, Pawnee Lake, or Mahoney. Mahoney is 30 miles east of Lincoln, only a few sites have sewer.
