RE: Yukon Campgrounds and boondocking sites

Murray, I think I saw your house once. Probably 11-12 years ago. I think I remember standing on a bridge looking southwest. Anyway, I didn't see Dawson Peaks on your campground list. On RVparkreviews someone in 2012 thought the "owners were tired". Looks like in 2015 someone said there was just a pay box and the "resort" was closed. Know anything about the park or owners?

RE: Campground near Lincoln Nebraska?

Check out Cabella's in Lincoln. Stayed there a few years ago and was very nice and adjacent to the store. Think you mean Sidney? There is also a Cabella's in Kearney, none in Lincoln. There is Pawnee Lake State park a few miles west of Lincoln, north of Emerald. No sewer at the site. So, it's Campaway, Pawnee Lake, or Mahoney. Mahoney is 30 miles east of Lincoln, only a few sites have sewer.

RE: Bahia Honda Keys

The above photo show how much cover 26 has--you can hardly see it. That white dot about in the middle is an RV on 26. There is a paved road just to the east that heads back (under the bridge) to another area across the road.

RE: Bahia Honda Keys

I live close to Bahia Honda and go there about every day. I took some pics of 26 that I can text, if you PM me your phone number. The site is "double-wide" and open on front. It's got a good wall of cover on the back and east side. The west side is covered say 3/5's of the way from the back. It shares a bit of space up front with 25. 25 angles away from 26 at about 45 degrees. .

RE: I'm looking for a RV transporter for heavy 5th wheel

They didn't weigh Tetons individually. Chris at Stalkups in Casper picked one up at the factory and had it weighed. Weighed 1000# more than the sticker stated. He called Teton and they said sure, we'll send a new sticker, what do you want on it?

Have you checked the bulbs?

RE: Goodyear G114 Tires

I personally am so confident in my GY "H" tires I won'r waste my money on a monitoring system. The two GY "H" issues I have heard about both had center tread loss with NO pressure loss. I've had 3 blowouts with them.

RE: Spearfishing from Bahia Honda in the Keys???

So, I asked "what are the rules about POSSESSION of spearfishing equipment in the park"? He said "can not have it"! "So if I have a spearfish gun in my camper in the park"? He said, "well, nobody is going to look". "And then put it in my boat and went out fishing"? "You can't use it in the park---the boundary goes out 400 feet" I can't see a situation where anyone would know you have the equipment if you are discreet.

I live close to Bahia Honda and go over there about every day. I'll ask next time I'm there.

RE: Border Crossing

I've been searched a couple of times at Sweet Grass, never at Del Bonita. But I've never crossed at Del Bonita. They have a nice indoor "inspection facility" at Sweet Grass. You go into a "waiting room" with large windows, so you can watch them throw all of your stuff on the floor. I think my name was on the "list" as I had an alcohol infraction a few years earlier in New Brunswick. I told the New Brunswick guy I took the same amount of alcohol on trips to Alaska. He said US travelers, crossing through Canada, on their way to Alaska get "special consideration". I think I read somewhere your name stays on the "list" like for 7 years. Once while searched I had my cremated dog in a white cardboard box wrapped with Saran Wrap in the back seat. They tore into that---I guess who wouldn't want to know what's in a box wrapped with Saran Wrap. .

RE: Pulling 5ver to Alaska

A 30' fifth wheel should be no problem for a Dodge dually--if that's your question. .

RE: Driving our homebuilt rig to Alaska....questions

I think the very first thing on the list for an Alaska trip is tires. Having tires in good condition and having the appropriate spares for your vehicles. I had a heck of a time finding a 19.5 tire in Florida. Another time 60 miles east of Kansas City--wasn't so hard, but had to wait 2 hours for Wing Foot to bring some. That isn't going to happen along the Alaska Highway. I think you will find hauling the boat up and back to be a HUGE Pita. I can assure you your trip will be much easier without it.

RE: Key West

Skip flying into KW, instead fly into either Miami or Ft.Laurdale and enjoy the drive down the Keys! Have done this many times and it never gets old. Actually it does get old. I live in Big Pine, hardly ever go north of Marathon. I dread the drive up to Miami. The problem is everyone flying into Miami or Ft Lauderdale and driving down here like they are on vacation, clogging the roads. And speaking of coming down during summer? It starts getting bad in May. Just going outside and the sweat pours off. I go north for 4 months. .

RE: State Residency Question?

You can file a "Declaration of Domicile" in Florida at the County Clerk. So that, a Florida Divers License, and a Florida Voter Registration should qualify you a Florida Resident.

RE: Facts about diesel ideling

I have found with my truck (3500 diesel), if I start the engine it will initially run on high idle. Once the engine reaches it's desired temperature, it will shift to low idle. When it does that, I's OK to drive it. If you put the truck in gear it will shift to low idle---it's OK to drive.
