RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

Hello, all! Went camping for Turkey Day, had a blast. One issue: My daughter accidentally left the water on in her sink in the bunkhouse while we went to another site for breakfast. By the time we got back, the tank level alert was beeping. Funny thing: it was for the BLACK tank!! ???? We took care of the issue, thankfully before the tank filled and started backing up! Called OR today and they said that the 399BHS rear sink DOES go to the rear black tank. The galley has it's own gray tank, and the MBR Bath has it's own black/gray tanks. Just a heads-up. It was news to us.

MWEBBER78: Don't let the sticker price fool ya! You have to do your homework! We wouldn't pay 60k either! And didn't!! I can tell you I found the best deals in TX and SC. They also have 2 different levels - one for a 5th wheel (more expensive) and then the travel trailer kind. Let me know if I can help!

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

We got our unit back and all is WONDERFUL! The new dvd/cd/stereo with all the extras works GREAT! It even has a fade feature that allows us to finally have radio inside OR out, or BOTH. The stock one did not have that. If you had the radio on, both could hear it inside and out. It also plays copied dvd's/cd's. That is a huge plus! I no longer have to carry the originals! The flooring issue was caused by a stripped screw from the factory. It was fixed and the new flooring put in looks great! The fridge/range hood/vacuum issue was caused by a wire that had a staple or something in it causing it to freak out. The dealer replaced the wiring and all is well! GONECAMPING444: As stated previously, the problems most of us have had are the same or similar to other units. But since our 'group' is so small, we have our own thread so we can keep informed of what's what with our respective units. I haven't heard of ANYONE hating or even disliking their unit even a little bit! We love ours and the few bumps we've had have been, thankfully, easily fixable. Can't wait until Tues when we go camping for Thanksgiving! WHOO HOO!!!

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

I called OR and when I gave him the update, he agreed to get it serviced soon! We have disconnected all power, including batteries turned off. Shop opens tomorrow and will schedule it then. The GFI in bathroom is ok, too. I reset it on purpose during our trip just to see if it would help anything... grrr!

RE: RoamingRVers; Fort Yargo SP Oct.30-Nov.1

We are gonna miss this one, guys... We just got back from High Falls, and I'll just be getting back from another trip (cruise) on the 29th... AND we are scheduled for Yargo for Thanksgiving, and Veterans for New Years. Maybe I'll drop by for a visit though. Hope you guys have fun! Claudia

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

Hey there! We're back from our trip and discovered that it's an electrical problem after all... I went into the camper to get something, and lo and behold, the range hood fan and light were on, and the fridge had it's green light on! WTH?? Then they went out... then back on... we turned them ALL off to be safe. We also discovered that the vacuum doesn't work either. Apparently, there is a loose wire or something somewhere; which is good news - we shouldn't need a new fridge! I'm gonna call OR and update them, then schedule service. Updates as I get them... C~

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

We did NOT remove the black cover on the back panel, because my husband says it's marked that only a "licensed blah blah blah can do it". But, we DID check the outlet, and it is good. He checked the 12VDAC line and it is NOT powered. Breakers and fuses are all fine. We called both OR, and a local dealer that has an OUTSTANDING rep for service, and they both had us do things to check it. Final 'unseen professionally' analysis is that it's either a blown fuse or a problem with the board. Or, a bad connection somewhere between the unit and the fridge. We are going to go ahead and camp anyway, with the use of a friends dorm fridge, and then schedule service with an OR warranty dealer. The other guy said he could do the work but since he doesn't sell them we'd have to pay him and haggle with OR to get our money back. And since BOTH places had guys out for one reason or another, we couldn't get it looked at before hand anyway. Maybe we'll get lucky and the rain will stop, too! LOL

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

I'm waiting on a dealer to call me back. No lights, no clicks, nothing. Hopefully they can get us in today and be done by tomorrow morning, or at least know what the problem is. It worked just fine over Labor Day weekend! Thank you guys for offering suggestions... We appreciate it! Claudia

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

Thanks, Kevin. We did try those things. Nothing works. Called OR, spoke with Scott, and he says it's a Norcold issue. I guess we are going to borrow a dorm fridge from a friend to get us through this trip and put the meat on ice in a cooler. Now I have to find an authorized Norcold Warranty servicing dealer to help us. CampingWorld probably does it... I'll keep ya'll updated. C~

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

On to the next issue: I went out to turn on the fridge so it'll be cold when I load it up Wed morning for our trip out, and the fridge won't work. Checked all fuses, power lines/sockets... It's the fridge itself. GRR!!! NOW what are we gonna do? Do ya'll think we'll have any luck getting it fixed tomorrow?

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

Just an update re: stereo: I called the place that actually sells/ships them for warranty replacement, and they shipped us a new one right away! Got it in about 3 days. Now whenever we get a chance to swap them out we'll see if we can play DVD's again... Has anyone changed their stereo out yet? If so, any tips on what to look for? We haven't opened the box yet, but assume they sent us the same one as it came with... Chat with ya later!

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

We haven't swapped it out yet, but at first glance, it's the same hinge assembly. My husband says it's all one unit, that they couldn't just send the pin that broke in transit. It also opens and closes MUCH EASIER than the one that's currently installed. I'll let ya know how it goes when we change it over.

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

I finally called OR about the galley drop-down counter extension needing a hinge replaced and that the dealer was dragging their feet. They FedEx'ed me TWO that day! I also complained that the Radio/CD/DVD player would not play DVD's. They referred me directly to the company that issues them! I called them and they are sending me a replacement radio with a postage paid return envelope. So far, Open Range has NOT let me down...

BERCHER: COOL PIC!! Now we are trying to get our stereo replaced because it will NOT play DVDs. grrrr

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

We just got back from a 5 day trip at A. H. Stephens in GA. We had a WONDERFUL time, and everything went well. Everything except the DVD player worked as it should. NO leaks in the shower this time either! We did discover that our smoke detector is missing, however! I called the dealer and they are gonna call me tomorrow to tell me what they are gonna do about it. With 3 of us using the bathrooms/shower, we didn't need to dump anything early! WOW! If we hadn't left today, though, we would have had to drain the front gray tank. Ahh... I miss it already...

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

COOKSVILLEWILDCAT: Thanks. I guess we will check it out further once we are camping on Thurs and more relaxed. We'll have PLENTY of time to inspect her... I just hope the rain stops by then!

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

Yes, it was a great thing for us until some lemons fell off a tree and none of us had any vodka... LOL We are going out for Labor Day weekend on Thursday of next week. I CANNOT WAIT!!! Question: those of us with the 399BHS: could you check under the stove slide out (when it's opened) and see if you see a thin silver spring. I see one, but it's not attached on one end and I can't see what it's supposed to go to! It's one like you'd find on a screen door or a light gate. Maybe as big/wide as a pencil? Longer, but like that. I was sitting on the steps when I looked WAAAY under the slide and saw it coming from the frame area towards the outside. If you are able to find it, what does it go to?? Or is it like a spring-limit switch?

RE: Open Range Fifth Wheel Owners

The galley and rear sink on the 399 are in the rear. Yes, there are 2 black tank flushes. Not quite understanding what you are saying about their locations of all the knobs/pulls etc, here's a rundown: In the cargo bay where they city water hooks up there are two black handled "handles" that you use to dump the FRONT (Master area) gray and black tanks. That is also where the flush system is for BOTH black tanks. The TOP one is usually for the front black tank, and the bottom is for the rear black tank. There is no flush for the gray tanks. In the rear, near the tires, are the handles for the rear tanks. You kind of have to get on your hands/knees to find it or just bend over well... One is for the REAR black tank which is the rear bathroom toilet only. The other is for both the rear sink and the galley gray tank. ALL four tanks are the same size, approx 45 gallons. Yes, you can use a Y-connector to join the outlets. Just leave the valves closed until you are ready to dump. Hope this helps... Claudia
