RE: Olympic NP

Don't forget Cape Flattery and Neah Bay. Not quite Olympic NP, but in the vicinity.
We stayed at Hobuck Beach Resort at Neah Bay on the tent side so I can't say how the RV side is (it might have hookups). It's just okay for camping but located perfectly by the beach. Lots of dogs running loose though.
Cape Flattery is a short walk but if you want in-your-face scenery, it's hard to beat. And driving that far without going all the WAY would be silly! :D

RE: Want to add a battery to my truck camper - help please

Maybe you can find out where the battery goes in a new Bronco--apparently it's even now just an option and not a standard feature, but there must be a spot for it. I don't think they change that much. Then you can plop your battery box there, vent it if needed, and do the wiring.
Get the thingy (isolator?) on your truck so that when the truck is turned off, the 12V line to the camper is dead. That's more important than an onboard battery!

RE: ?'s for the seasoned campers re roof top solar panels

Do solar panels have to go on racks (for ventilation maybe) or can they be stuck directly to the roof?

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Took it to the Ford dealer to get the truck's computer fixed so it would stop threatening to limit the speed to 50 MPH from a non-existent diesel exhaust fluid fault.
I have a feeling those guys do not get trucks wearing campers too often. :)

RE: Northstar pop-up 850SC

I have an tc800 and have found that the manufacturer is responsive and helpful. They'll tell you where to put a screw or what that weird wire is if you call them or email them. (They are also willing to do some customization if you're ordering from scratch.)
We don't have the cassette toilet or shower setup that the 850 has but the rest is similar. Everything seems to work fine and it's pretty simple and mechanical stuff is accessible.
We did have an issue with the battery charging. The dealer walked us through trouble shooting over the phone because we didn't want to drive it 2 hrs to the shop but eventually we did have to bring it in. The harness plug thingy needed replacing. You'll probably have a closer dealer. :)
The 850sc is really nice. We just needed the bigger dinette more than the indoor toilet. We're classy like that. :P

RE: Northstar quality?

Yep. Tacky wood stickers on particle board for doors but good ply where it's relevant. There's not much hope for nice RV cabinetry these days unless you get an Airstream (although other TC manufacturers do have a better eye than NS for making things look nice). :(
You just learn to ignore it.

RE: Where are all the Truck Campers ?

I think they're in Utah. I've never seen as many as I saw out there. They weren't all Utahns, but they were all there!

RE: Pop-Up Campers

Doesn't the Juno require a HD truck?
I think the options in all of them are nicer than the 1980s. You should check 'em all out if you can. We have a newer Northstar and although we didn't get one of the models with a bathroom, I can say it's quiet enough in the wind, the fridge is okay but smaller than a hardside, water tank is middle sized, and storage is tight. :)

RE: Do you like your cabover bed?

It's a climb, but a good place to stick something I only use when I sleep (you know, the bed). Some are easier to get into than others and mine isn't easier. If I were taller or older I would probably not like mine. Assuming I get older, I might eventually want an easier climb, but I still think the cabover is a good place for the bed.
(The bed locations were better in my '74 Apache folding trailer and there were more of them, but in something as small as a truck camper, where the heck else would I sleep? :))

RE: pop up campers

We were looking at the 2011 models TC850 (they didn't have the 1000 at our dealer) and the seat was really high--my kids would have needed a stool for a while (which isn't a big deal). The bar went right across the seat pretty much when down. Yeah I tried to sit on a potty in an RV show. I'm short, I'm flexible, and there was no way to do it with the top down. I really wanted it to work.
We've since proven to ourselves that top-down potty is worth having. I'd like to say "for the kids"...
I think the Apex has a lot more room under the bed for storage than the Northstars. Bigger tanks maybe? Basement? Taller?

RE: pop up campers

I think Cal is right in terms of comparing appropriate models. If I recall correctly, the Outfitter is more nicely appointed and weighs appropriately more. A bit bigger as well. Can't use the potty in a Northstar 850 with the top down but I think you can in an Outfitter. (This was a big deal for us. :))
We got a NS tc800 (you can use a portapotty with the top down :R) but weren't able to examine the Outfitters (and Hallmarks) in person. It's relatively spartan, but pretty solid and straightforward.

RE: What do you recommend for a camper

The bathroom has other uses even if it isn't the most efficient use of space when not a bathroom. You can use it for storage (a wet bath is nice for snowy boots and sandy shoes). You can even remove the bathroom stuff and use it for the portapotty. A place for the trash can. Or install shelves around the fixtures.
So just find one where the bathroom doesn't stink and I think you will be okay with it. Or find a shorter camper without a bathroom because the big ones do all seem to have them.

What a great layout! Definitely a nice camper, whatever the heck it is.
The trucks aren't too bad either! ;)

RE: Another new one (Hallmark)

Stan, you're funny! You know they're doing that, right?
We couldn't do the E/W bed either. We needed the storage and the sleeping space (in a popup with no cabinets to pen you into bed you can fit more short people on a N/S bed than an E/W one by stacking them E/W. We travel with shorties.).

RE: Hi all! New TC owner as of today!

At least you won't be trapped in the middle of nowhere with nowhere to go for supplies! (IKEA has a lot of cheap kitchen organizers that work well in for small popup.)
I'd make sure the mattress was okay. Maybe a little screen room?

RE: dish holder

Don't sell yourself short, Dwayne--Williams-Sonoma used to sell a drawer organizer just like you were going to make. You are too fancy! :)
http://reviews.williams-sonoma.com/3177/maple-wood-peg-drawer-organizer/reviews.htm
I think it's usually arranged to hold stacks of things, not dishes on edge like it is in the photo. Like in this version:

RE: SRW diesel truck choices

The Ford has the combination door lock.
:p
I have the '12 version of about what you're looking at in a Ford but can't really comment on its weight-carrying (carries an 8 ft. popup easily) or how it compares to others. It's comfy, if that helps. Maybe shop around for a slightly smaller camper to fit the truck you need?

RE: headin 6 hours away for used TC...Sugg???

The magnetic lights are great (I've used them more than I care to admit--in fact I think I should start storing them in the camper permanently) but they do leave you fairly dark at night so keep that in mind when the sun goes down.
