RE: inverter size

What about charging them with my chevy gasser truck? It's quieter than my 3500 watt champion genny. I am going to use 2 6v golf cart batts also.

inverter size

Hey all, I just bought a 2013 heartland wilderness travel trailer. How can I tell what size the inverter is. I want to dry camp and want to know what size it is for generator/charging purposes. Thanks.

RE: Overnight near Ogalla / North Platte, NE

I live here in North Platte and buffalo bills campground is a nice quiet place to park for a night or two. Also it's not too bad to get to although it's as far away from the interstate as you can get and still be in town. The holiday rv park is good. It's close to the interstate and is close to restaurants and shopping if needed.

RE: dry camping

Thanks for the converter correction. I am going to dry camp on my first campout (near here) to see how it goes.

dry camping

Hey all. We are going to do some dry camping this year. My main concern is battery recharging. I have a 230 amp hour deep cycle battery. Would it be better to plug my stand alone battery charger to the generator and charge the rv batt that way or use the rv inverter with the generator? I should only need to use the genny for about a hour or so during the day for recharge, correct? I'm new to the dry camping thing so all info would be helpful. Thanks.

RE: hitch question

Thanks for the replies. I will just use my best judgement and remove the sway before backing in tight spots. I am going to pick up my new rig this weekend. I'll post pix when I get back (I promise).

hitch question

Hey all, quick question. I just bought a eazlift wd hitch with sway control. I just watched a how to vid on a reese hitch and they said you can't back up with the wd and sway hooked up. That don't sound right to me, I can see unhooking the sway control but the bars too? I've never jack knifed into a camp spot so that don't sound like an issue. What is the real deal. Can I back up or not?

beach camping

Hey all, My bunch likes to go rving on the beach. Just wondering what your tricks are to keep the kiddos sandy feet out of your camper. We put a small tub filled with water by our step to wash their feet in before they enter. Also a large towel in the doorway to dry off. Of course we try to keep the kids outside but that don't always work.

RE: "New" Here. We can't wait to pick up our new TT!! Any tips?

Also if you want to have some fun like I do ask for the lead rv mechanics cell ph number in case anything goes wrong. That makes em squirm a little. That's what I do to break the ice (I'm a pain in the butt though).

RE: wilderness 2250bh

My 5er was a pig to get around tight spots and in several places it would almost hit the box side of the truck due to twisting (I had 8" clearance). The tt is shorter and by nature cannot come close to the truck in tight places. I want to camp in places that are off the grid also. AAANNND I traded my dodge diesel for a chevy 2500hd gasser that would be happier with a 7000lb tt vs a 11500lb 5er.

RE: wilderness 2250bh

It does have a curtain for bedroom privacy so I'm ok with that. And to me it looks like the entry door should be ok too.

RE: wilderness 2250bh

Yes I know it's a travel trailer. I switched because tt to me will be a little more off path usable. I won't have to worry about rv to truck contact. My kids are string beans and also don't hang out in the beds very much. Also I have googled the snot out of the tt and there's not much info (reviews).

wilderness 2250bh

Hey all, I am thinking about making the plunge (again). I just sold my 34ft 5er and am looking at a new wilderness 2250bh due to we want to do more boondocking. Does anybody have any experience with these models? It does have bunks but it doesn't say how wide they are. I have a 8yr girl and a 14yr son. It is only 27ft so I think it would be pretty user friendly off the grid. The closest one is 600mi from here but it is a smoking deal. 16,000 for a 2013. Any input would be appreciated.

RE: 1500HD vs. 2500

One thing I will mention as I have also researched this subject to death for myself. They are in fact the same truck,(1500hd 2500), The only difference that may be an issue is that the full floater axle on the 2500hd will be stronger over the long haul than the semi floater axle on the 1500hd. If you pull a lot that makes a difference for some. I did notice also after driving both the 1500hd and the 2500hd is that the 1500hd rides a tad better due to the lighter rear springs.

RE: How to keep little fingers off the radio...

This happened by accident but it worked. My son was fiddling with my home stereo and turned he volume knob all the way up then turned it on. The music blared and scared the tar out of him and he never touched it again.

RE: over 30ft too long?

The reason I sold the 5er was the 11500gvwr. I had a dodge diesel that went belly up I used to pull it so I got rid of it(bad motor,$$$). I now have a 2010 2500hd gasser that wouldn't pull it. THAT leads me to THIS. I'm gonna check out a zinger 251bh that is 28ft but has no slide. We'll see how much room it has with no slide.

RE: over 30ft too long?

Thanks for all the input everybody. I did find a 24ft tt that has a queen bed and bunks in the corner. Maybe I can talk the kids into living with that. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-2013-Lite-Light-Bunkhouse-Bunks-Fiberglass-Travel-Trailer-aka-23LB-3570-lbs-/111030812563?pt=RVs_Campers&hash=item19d9f3bf93

RE: over 30ft too long?

My truck is a 2500hd crew short box. As far as bad weather goes most of the storms that I've been in came and went fairly quickly so being cooped up for a few hours isn't a problem (real family time) but if the weather is going to be bad for days I just won't stay where we are. I just want a rv that I can take to the lakes around Medicine Bow and Thunder basin near Cheyenne. Campouts like that. I tried to talk my wife into a hardsided expandable but she no likey.

RE: over 30ft too long?

afob. I do like the koala floorplan but I may be a leeeetle out of my price range. I can see where the 31ft tt would give me fits in a tight campground though not much more than a 34ft 5er would, (same total length I'm guessin).
