RE: "Not just another tire post!" TPMS and Tire Myths...

The question is how accurate are those 50 cent pressure transducers? Most likely more accurate than the 25 cent pressure gauges most of us have. I have found my Pressure Pro transducers are spot on and I can monitor the pressure changes as I am towing. The pressure always increases after 5 miles so I know the transducer is working. Then 100 miles or so I check pressures again. Gives me something to do during a long boring tow. +1 I have found that the factory TPMS on my 2010 2500HD is just as accurate as any of the hand-held gauges I've used. I've tried several different stick guages, an analog gauge, even a digital one, and they all come within 1-2 PSI of the truck's TPMS system.

RE: Stay Hitched Overnite ?

I have heard, however, (and it's unsubstantiated of course) that you can tweak the coupler latch mechanism if you hang too much weight off of it (as you might if you used the tongue jack to level the trailer and in turn lifted the back end of the truck). The key here is TOO MUCH weight... The coupler latch has to be substantial enough to withstand at least some weight pulling on the latch, because the rig can get to bouncing and throwing that tongue weight up against the latch. It's common practice to jack up the rear end of the tow vehicle several inches to make latching up the WD bars easier. Definitely agree. Like I said, I'm just a little wary. A lot depends on what your TV is, how much the back end weighs, and how much lifting you do with the jack.

RE: Stay Hitched Overnite ?

I have done this a few times myself without incident. I have heard, however, (and it's unsubstantiated of course) that you can tweak the coupler latch mechanism if you hang too much weight off of it (as you might if you used the tongue jack to level the trailer and in turn lifted the back end of the truck). I suppose the theory is that the coupler isn't designed to have weight suspended from it. I have no idea if the argument has any merit, but I was at a site recently where I needed to jack the tongue up a good 6 inches just to get level (even had to add a couple of blocks under the tongue jack)and I decided I wasn't going to have that much rear end weight hanging off the coupler latch. I suppose a lot has to do with how much you need to raise the tongue to get level.
