RE: 45K FOR MY TRAILER!!!!

Wanna really get sick?? Check out the cost to build a 3 bedroom 1&1/2 bath Ranch style in 1970 and the 1 acre lot. Now look at what they think it's worth today at 29 years old. Real Estate market is STILL falsely inflated and WILL crash soon. Yes, I'm right. Just wait and see.

RE: Tandem towing

Straightforward answer to you.......... "How should I...." You SHOULD NOT bolt anything to that bumper. If you will notice, MANY MANY bumpers are torn off just by a bike rack. It isn't built sturdy enough. End of advice.

RE: Missile Possibly Launched in Liberty County, Texas

:R Nah. If he had a visual on a Stinger at that altitude, he would have been hit by it. If he had a visual on a model rocket at that altitude, it would have been nearly miraculous. Check his eyes for floaters. :BA flare? :@ On the other hand, isn't a Stinger heat seeking? If so, does a commuter plane produce enough heat to set off the seeking? You are hot enough to lock onto. You two keep that to yourselves. We didn't ask, so you need not tell. LOL But it is true. Your body heat can be "locked" by a stinger. I find it disturbing the gov does not want to admit when these things happen. What are they afraid of?? Maybe that we will realize all their unPatriot Act stuff is just as effective as gun control laws???

RE: Thunderstorms!!!! UPDATE

I happen to LOVE thunderstorms and lightning. The clouds are so pretty when they are billowing and swirling. The lightning is VERY fun and pretty to watch. Especially at night when we have the cloud to cloud lightning and little rain so it is clearly seen.

RE: Missile Possibly Launched in Liberty County, Texas

I'm thinking along the lines of another terrorist attack that will be swept under the rug. Can't have the public knowing our efforts haven't really made us safer. Didn't find any information on an event last year.

Missile Possibly Launched in Liberty County, Texas

http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/news/090601_ufo_sightings_liberty_county Missile Possibly Launched in Liberty County Updated: Monday, 01 Jun 2009, 10:36 PM CDT Published : Monday, 01 Jun 2009, 6:49 PM CDT DUARTE GERALDINO HOUSTON - A missile may have just barely miss hitting a Continental Airlines flight on Friday. Liberty County sheriff deputies are meeting with the FBI and FAA to discuss this incident. Sheriff deputies say on Friday a missile may have been launched near Interstate 10 and mount Belview. A continental flight which had just taken off from Bush Intercontinental Airport may have been the target. "If it was done deliberately, how much more dangerous can you get?" said Chief Deputy Ken DeFoor with the Liberty County Sheriff's Department. He went on to explain, "It was less than a hundred feet from the airplane itself, going underneath the cockpit of the airplane." According to investigators, the aircraft was a small commuter plane with 25-29 passengers and about four crew members on board. It was flying above 12,000 feet when just after 8 p.m., the pilot reported seeing what's being described as a missile.

RE: Tandem towing

First, Ignore the scaredy cats. If you listen to all of them, you will not leave your home for fear of falling asteroids. I have towed almost every type of trailer(singles) and raced motorcycles for many years... the biggest fear I have is the numerous people driving above their perceived invincible abilities… if someone is really seeking information and not affirmation as you seem to be offering, they should not ignore any suggestions or ideas but use them as a tool in their research and make up their own mind… Your scaredy cat remark offers nothing and only serves to reduce the credibility of your post to people that think for themselves.. Talk to folks who actually tow two trailers. There are a few here. Use THEIR advice and suggestions. Yes, do use their advice and suggestions, giving equal weight to all sides and working toward a informed decision… As to your questions........ Yes, it can and has been done by many folks. This is the same thing I am working on right now myself. Yes it can be done and I know and camp with people that do it… one from Alaska the other from the UP of Michigan to south Florida… one is a MH towing a PU with a Harley in the bed and a utility trailer behind the PU… The other a F350 SRW pulling a 5er pulling a utility with a 800# golf cart and untold amounts of tools… I doubt either of these are legal but neither admits to have been stopped for it… do I think either is safe or a good idea??? No!!! having done it does not quantify or qualify it as safe or a good idea… but at least in both cases the second tow also has brakes… Your "tandem towing" is actually "doubles". Pulling TWO trailers is "pulling doubles" or "double towing". (Triple towing would be pulling THREE trailers, so don't let anyone confuse you with their ignorance of the subject) While some members use the wrong terminology I think they understand the difference between 2 and 3... Check ALL law questions with the actual law enforcement and law books. The sites often quoted here are WRONG, and the information useless. Could be because the information is either hard to find or none existent or lacks clarity… One example is the "maximum length". MOST of what is quoted is for COMMERCIAL trucks, not campers and private vehicles. Key word MOST but you might add some states counties and cities could all have different rules so sticking to interstates may be your best bet, unless you know where you are legal… Don't use that bumper for pulling a trailer. Bike racks are well known to tear the things off. I am looking at bolting and welding a hitch to the frame, and also using angle bracing from center of hith back underneath for support. Remember, Any "free" advice you get should be taken with a handfull of salt, and is worth exactly what you paid for it. Agreed no bumper pull, a good hitch, and a understanding you may be overstressing your chassis, suspension systems, brakes, and TV… But you heard it right here from MM himself, ignore the facts and take your advice from only from others that have made that decision… For my part I truly believe it is not safe, and feel obligated to give my thoughts… enquiring minds want to know, but wise minds research it for themselves, and error on the side of safety… in the end it is a individual decision that carries all the benefit as well as the cost, responsibilities, and liabilities… Of all available options, double towing with a TT is at the bottom of the list and is the least stable to begin with… Thank you for taking the time to deconstruct my post and add your well thought out and polite opinions to it. It's good to know someone is reading what I write.

RE: Tandem towing

Marionmedic I tow doubles and I believe you are not correct about the length limit being just for commercial vehicles. But here in the midwest lots of people tow over the limit and seldomly are stopped. My hitch I had installed to the frame it is very secure. That's why I said "MOST". Some States have lenght laws, some are outdated. Example........ If the total legal length for ANY vehicle is 65 feet, then how does a Semi with a 53' trailer and a 20" tractor get around this??? I drove one that was 68' bumper to bumper for over 5 years. Not good when backing, hard to turn some corners, but NEVER got anything said about length. And believe me, in some of the states I ran it WOULD have been said if it was an issue.

RE: To rinse or not to rinse

Rinse it off. Don't "kneel" at that place at all. Bend over and lean. Unless you LIKE your knees in the mess. Wear shoes, and don't worry about those who don't. Wipe your feet before you get into truck. Even dry pavement will work.

RE: Basic Equipment to Get Started

Chinamart is your FRIEND. Buy stuff you need in the TT and leave it in there. Using house stuff means you will ALWAYS forget something.

RE: Basic Equipment to Get Started

Other than what you choose to add to the inside, I'd say you can go and be well prepared with the following....... Sewer hose (Stinky Slinky) Fresh water hose Tank rinser wand (or other flush apparatus) 30 to 50 amp plug-in adapter 30 to 15 amp plug-in adapter 25 to 50 foot length of TV coaxial cable I used (and still use) 4" x 4" treated "blocks" for wheel chocks and for under tongue jack and stabilizers. About 9 of them 12" long do the trick and are CHEAP. Everything else is just personal preference.

RE: Couple of questions

Doesn't matter what you do. 25 - 30 MPH winds are going to blow you around. You have a little truck and a big box behind it. You are going to have to fight on the windy days. No amount of "gadgets" will change the force of nature. Those winds even blow 18 wheelers around. BTW - if you are fighting crosswinds, be sure to have a good grip when going under overpasses. The wind accelerates along the "hills" on the sides.

RE: Tandem towing

Ok, before you say it this is probably not a great idea, but hey I have to ask! I have a 24ft Coachman Spirit of America. In MO, we can two in tandem. People do it all of the time, I even see jet skis on the back of pop-up campers and small boats on the back of travel trailers! I must admit however, I never paid attention if they had a reciever installed or just bolted a hitch to the bumber (easiest)! I have a motorcycle and trailer (combined about 1000lbs). I would like to two this behind my camper. I don't think Coachman recommends it. I have the 'standard' RV bumper, it's bolted down and seems very strong. There is also the frame underneath the back of the camper, but it doesn't look any stronger than the bumber (I could be wrong about that however). Has anyone done this? I do appreciate your input! P.S. I have towed in tandem before, it's not too bad. I keep my speed down and the only issue really is that you can't back up! Oh, one last question. I understand some states don't allow you to tow in tandem. Do you know how I can find out which states do and which dont'? Thanks very much! First, Ignore the scaredy cats. If you listen to all of them, you will not leave your home for fear of falling asteroids. Talk to folks who actually tow two trailers. There are a few here. Use THEIR advice and suggestions. RE: Can we PLEASE outlaw these things now???

When are we going to exercise our RIGHTS as landowners and end this practice?? NO ONE has the right to dictate to you how you use and enjoy your own property. But they got an inch, so they think the mile is alright too. Now we see them trying to dictate your bumper stickers. Next it will be the COLOR of your car, what tires you use, maybe even the kind of clothes you wear as well.
