RE: New truck in my future

75k miles isn't that much...

I vote for 2004, older but less miles.

RE: $10,000 TV

I can tell you that pre 2000 1/2 tons will not do (I know what I said few posts above, but that referred to newer generation Tahoe).
I had a 99 Tahoe with tow package and 3.73 gears that struggled with 4000 lbs. Maybe it was just my truck, but my 06 Explorer with 4.6 is way better.

RE: $10,000 TV

Sorry to be a pest here, but why is half of you guys talking about Ford with v10 or GM with 8.1.
The OP is talking about 5k trailer.
Even with the lower rated Tahoe at 7800 lbs, he would be at about 60%.
Lee4019 - I had a Tahoe, then gas Ram Megacab, and now I am back to 2006 Explorer. You have a dog and from my experience, nothing beats utility of an SUV

RE: $10,000 TV

I had an older Tahoe and it was OK, not great, but it was 99 with older 5.7.
Question - how many people and gear in the truck ?
I would go with Z71 since they had 3.73 and tow package in the "Z71" already (at least that's what I remember).
The LT, even with every luxury option may not have the tow package, or 3.73 gears.

RE: New Ford F 150 5 liter V8

The new 5.0 has nothing to do with the old pushrod 302.
I believe saying that you should expect 150k miles from a modern engine before a rebuilt, would scare the heck out of me.
I have almost 160k on my 2006 4.6 in my explorer and I am expecting another 100 if not more.

RE: Questions on Duramax purchase

Here is my opinion (never had a diesel):
We all know that Duramax may last another 300k miles.
But what's the expected life of Allison ? They are not cheap.
Also, the transfer case, both differentials wear out no matter if you have gas or diesel turning them.

RE: "Little things to know" about 2500 series Suburbans/Yukons?

95 got driver air bag
96 and up had driver and pass
I would go with the 2001 and up 8.1 due to better brakes, and nicer interior

RE: 2014 GM Truck Info

I believe 2014 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/XL is a whole new release so they keep it secret for the next few months.
I am sure there will be 2500 Suburban.

RE: Pulled the trigger -- AND IT"S HERE!!!

Randy -
do you still have:
2000 F350 V-10 Extended Cab Dually
2006 F350 Diesel Crew Cab Dually
If they take the space on your driveway, and want to get rid of them, let us know :)

RE: 2000 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab Opinion

From the pictures it looks like it is:
2000 C3500 (2 wheel drive), crew cab, long bed.
For sure it came with 4l80e tranny, it's a gasser so either 5.7 or 7.4, not a diesel. It will be very stable because of the long wheel base.
Try to get more details on the engine, or get a picture of the RPO sticker in the glove compartment.

RE: Advice on an 04 Excursion 6.0....

Suburban 1500 if the trailer is really just 6000 lbs. Nice ride, plenty of room, and easy repairs, less costly than any repair on 6.0 PSD

RE: Supercharged is right!

1. Bucky - tell us what it is :)
2. I agree with you. In 90's I had a 1990 Thunderbird SC with 3.8 supecharged/intercooled factory motor. I would attend some T-Bird owners mini meetings, and I had a chance to drive regular TBirds with same 3.8 but no SC. The difference was unbelivable.

RE: Can this be right? Laramie longhorn crew 4x4 1500

45Ricochet -
do they even make 1500 megacabs ? I know they used to, but those were not true 1500. Mine was built on 2500 chasis, had 8 lug wheels.
The GVW was 8510, empty it was about 6400-6500 lbs so I had about 2000 payload.
The door had 1500 emblem on it and it looked funny. Whenever I was ordering anything, I had to order for 2500HD. Even dealer ordered wrong tow hooks for me.

RE: $7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions?

1. Definetly look at 2500 series trucks.
2. If looking at Dodges, they do not have a great back seat unless it's MegaCab, starting in 2006, or the new crew cab models starting in 2009 or so - both out of your price range.
3. I would look at GM trucks: in 1999/2000 they had a crewcab model with short bed in the old body style, they came with either 5.7 or 7.4 vortec.
4. After 2000, GM had a model called 1500HD which came only in CrewCab configuration and with 6.0 / 4L80E tranny, that would be a good one for you.
5. 2500 Avalanches came ONLY with 8.1
Good luck
