RE: Highways Magazine
I have attempted to make my selection several times via the site address in the articles, the link in one forum post and via the web site/club benefits/highways magazine. Each time I get a long error message. I have no idea if my selection has taken. Anyone else having this problem???

If you are a Good Sam Club member you will receive your choice of Trailer Life or MotorHome at no cost - as part of your Good Sam Club membership.
You can choose to have it delivered either by mail or electronically. It will be sent to you four times per year starting in 2014. Each of the four issues will include the pages of Highways inserted as a special section into the TL or Motorhome issues you will receive.
Hope this clears up any confusion.

OK, Mike, what if you're a Good Sam member and already receiving Motorhome electronically (as a digital subscriber)?
Will I get the Highways insert? Do I have to do anything?

If you are a active subscriber (digital or print) you will get the Highways insert automatically as long as you are a Good Sam Club member. You won't need to do anything.

I submitted my information on June 19th, and haven't heard anything.
Yesterday morning, I sent an e-mail to "info@goodsamclub.
I still haven't seen anything.
At this point, I'm inclinced to let my membership lapse, and forget about the life membership. If the Good Sam Club is so inept, and cares so little about their members, perhaps they don't need my money or membership.
I will follow-up on this immeadiately. Please send me your contact information to the e-mail adress below.

RE: Rally Idea
We have just recently purchased our first RV (Travel Trailer) and attended our first Good Sam Rally this weekend. Our whole family had lots of fun and our kids made great friends at the Kids Club activities (and Facebook keeps them connected over the miles). We were taken aback by the generosity and friendliness of the Good Sam family and are excited to be a part of it. We are a family with relatively young kids and we all came up with an idea that might be fun at the Rallies. Many gatherings such as yours will have a book exchange table: trade one in for one you haven't read. This could be extended to DVDs since a lot of them are the price of a book now. This would take a little more volunteer man hours, but if other travelers are like our family, we'd have lots of both to trade! Thanks for such a great Rally and inspiring organization!

I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THE REASONING BEHIND YOUR SENIOR DISCOUNT FOR A LIFE MEMBERSHIP. MOST PLACES RECOGNIZE A SENIOR CITIZEN AS SOMEONE OVER THE AGE OF EITHER 55 OR 65 AND THEY RECEIVE THE SENIORS DISCOUNT. MEDICARE KICKS IN AT 65 MOST PEOPLE RETIRE BETWEEN THE AGE OF 60 OR 65. YET, FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON YOU HAVE CHOSEN THE AGE OF 68 TO UPGRADE TO A LIFE MEMBERSHIP AT THE REDUCED RATE. I THINK IT IS TIME THAT YOU CONSIDER 65 FOR THE DISCOUNT. JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION. THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE FOR LISTING TO MY GRIPE.
Our members requested that we offer a discount for Life Membership to help make it more affordable. We agreed to offer discounts to ALL members based upon the request.
The cost for Good Sam Club Life Membership has historically been $499. We agreed to lower the "base" price to all members to $299. That’s a reduction of $200.
We also agreed to offer an additional discount to certain groups including older members, military veterans, students, active police and firefighters. We lowered the price to these groups to $149. That’s a reduction of $350 off the original price or $150 off the new lower price.
Various groups choose to define a senior at different age. We chose to set an age of 68 as the senior rate. Our members continue to travel for many years beyond 68. We wanted to give them opportunity to enjoy the benefits of life membership… but also understood the challenge with the price. The response from members has been overwhelmingly positive. The discount at 68 is more about right sizing the price to those members than defining the age of a senior.
In addition to the discounts we've offered up we have expanded the level of benefits to Life Members including the additional fuel discount savings we offer through Pilot Flying J. This savings to Life Members is subsidized by the club.
I hope you see the positive efforts that have been taken to make the membership more affordable and accessible to all members. The membership is a great deal regardless of your age.
I know this is more than you requested in a response but I thought it was a good opportunity to help everyone understand our rationale.

Thanks for all you have done to improve good sam and the bennies. I do like and am thankful for you offering the law and the fire personnel a discount on the lifetime membership. GOD KNOWS they deserve it and more!, HOWEVER I am extremly disappointed that you have chosen not to include all MILITARY personnel into this catagory as they (as a whole) have always and will always provide more and suffer more than any group to keep you and me safe and sound.

"I know I am going to sound like a goof, but I just have to tell you how much Good Sam has added to my enjoyment of the RV life. I am pretty much a newbie. I bought a small popup a year ago, which I just traded in recently for a tiny 15'trailer.
The forums provide me with 24 hour support from people who have experienced it all already. They even have answers for me when the dealer is closed. I cannot tell you how many times my mind has been put at ease or my curiosity fed by the forums.
I also like being able to read about other people's purchases and mods. Visiting Camping World in New Braunfels a week ago to see all the items I have heard about was like a trip to Mecca. I know... I'm a total nerd."

I'm still waiting to hear why Good Sams doesn't think sending me "Payment Reminders" for a service I do not subscribe to isn't an attempt to "mislead or trick members".
I won't be holding my breath though.
Please send me your mailing address to the e-mail below. We will remove you from any solicitations for the Good Sam Club or any other mail you wish to suppress.
I think your comment has merit. As we reviewed the letter our copy may be misleading. We'll review and change it. I can assure you it was not our intent.

We pull the malimg list several weeks in advance of the mailing. So we may have missed you in the intial mailing. We also send a second mailing made up of all new members shortly after the intial mailing. You should get another copy soon after this one. Please share it with a friend!

Hey folks-
Just a few notes on the Good Sam Club renewal direct mail efforts:
• We have reduced the amount of mailed renewal notices per member by 50% this year
• We have reduced the lead time for mailing notices to 120 days prior to expiration
• We provide three additional options for renewing – web, Camping World store and phone
• In an effort to reduce direct mail we have also provided a special auto-renewal option where members can have their dues charged to a credit card. We notify members approximately 30 days prior to billing their cards. Members can cancel the automatic process at any time. We offer a 25% discount to members who opt into the automatic renewal process.
Our goal is to provide enough notice in advance of expiration to allow members to renew and avoid a lapse in coverage. Members travel and have other financial obligations so we try to maintain a proper balance between mailing too early or not early enough.
You can opt out of any mailings selectively at the Good Sam Club website. Technically you control what comes to your mailbox.
All changes we have put in place this year are at your request, our members. We never intentionally mislead or trick members. I hope this clarifies some miscommunication or misperceptions.
