RE: Tires

I had Toyo tires installed on my MH have put on about 2,000 miles so far and I think they ride nicer than the old Goodyear tires.

RE: Anyone gotten new RV tires in Boise, ID?

After pulling the weight off I am able to reach speeds of 70 and no shake on smooth roads. Now Ill have to check the rear tires when we get back to Michigan to see if there any lead weights on them. Still no contact from Les Schwab I'm glad I'm not holding my breath weighting.

RE: Anyone gotten new RV tires in Boise, ID?

New update we left Nampa Idaho today and everything seamed fine until I got out of Boise in the rolling hills coasting down them get it up to 68mph. and it starts shaking the TV and the front cabinets, so the rest of the day I backed it down between 62 to64 and everything was nice ad smooth and this is what we did for 325 miles. We got into a campground and set up for the night to start our 1,500 mile journey home so I figured what the heck Ill check the front tires and I found a 4 oz lead wheel weight on the inside of the right front so I took it off and well see what happens tomorrow. I still have not been contacted from Les Schwab corporate what a way to run a company not have a concern for your customers. Ill keep you updated as to what I find next good or bad.

RE: Anyone gotten new RV tires in Boise, ID?

When I got there and got the paper work done I told them I would wait in the MH they told me they were busy and would get to me as soon as possible. They went back and changed 3 tires on a semi truck that took 1 1/2 hrs. and this guy came after I had my paper work completed, while I sat and waited. First I had them put in the balance beads and I had to tell them to pull the old lead tire weights off. Second they only had 4" long valve stems so they put 2 long stems on the rear dully and reused 4 of my shorter stems but installed new gaskets on them now I cant rotate the tires but they charged me for 6 new stems. Third I had them install valve stem extensions and it took 1 1/2 hrs to drill 1 simulator. After talking to the manager and getting no where he only gave me excuses it took them 5 hrs and 45 min. for what they told me would take 3 hrs. I wrote a letter to their corporate office 3 weeks ago and have not heard back from them.

RE: Anyone gotten new RV tires in Boise, ID?

I went to a Les Schwab in Nampa Idaho just west of Boise 2 weeks ago. I had all 6 MH tires replaced took them 5 1/2 hrs and I had to keep watch of them to make sure it was done right. I wrote a letter to the corporate office 2 weeks ago about all the problems so far no reply. I wont go there again. Hope you have better luck.

RE: Tire Replacement on Class A Goodyear or Michelin

I just replaced the Goodyears with Toyos. I wanted Michelins but the tire store I went to was $1,000 cheaper than Michelin. The Goodyears were rving on the front tires. I inspected the rear tires after they were taken off and all 4 rear were starting to do the same thing.I had them bead balanced. Have only driven them about 12 miles but they seam to ride much better than Goodyear.

RE: Siping tires

I am the OP and the tires were put on yesterday 4/24. I decided not to get them siped because after seeing the Toyos they had about 10X more siping than the Goodyears that they were replacing. I used the bead balancing and put on rear valve stem extensions. I only drove it about 12 miles back to the campground but I think the ride will be much better. Thanks everyone tor your input gave me much to think about no matter how conflicting the information was.I had it done a Les Schwab on advise of the positive recherche I had done. It took them 5hrs.45 min. to do the job and twice I had to have them take off the old wheel weights, they reused 4 of my valve stems putting new rubber grommets on because the valve stems they had were to long and charged me for 6. I went there the week before to order the tires so everything should have been there. I complained to the manager and he didn't even try to make it right only giving me excuses. Needless to say I will be sending them a letter of complaint because you cant contact them on line.

RE: Siping tires

Sipes are the small cuts in the tire tread that help with traction in many different road conditions each sipe gives you a point of traction in adverse conditions. Siping tires help in wet traction and to run cooler. I researched this and found it will help in many cases. I figure I will give it a try and see what it does.

Siping tires

I am going to have new Toyo M-143s 245/70R-19.5 tires put on my MH. After talking to my brother in law and the salesman I will be having them sipe the tires. My brother in law use to work for Goodyear and he told me it would be a good idea to have them siped. It will cost $15 a tire but I feel it will be worth it. I will have them put on in the next couple of days using balancing beads and new valve stems. Has any one had there tires siped and if so what did you think? I wanted to put Michelins on but they were about $1,000 more so decided to go Toyos. I would have went with Michelin if I were to put on high millage but because they are changed because of aging out the Toyos made more sense to me plus #1,000 lighter on the budget.

RE: Back in the day

In 1964 my parents older sister younger brother and myself went from just north of Toledo OH. to Canada in a 1962 VW Beetle. all of our camping gear was on the roof in a roof rack with a 8'x8' canvas Army tent. That's 3 adults and 2 kids in a bug. I remember my father took a Army medical book in case some one got hurt or became ill.

Chipped windshield

I had a chip in my windshield that over the winter turned into a crack. I had a bottle of Locktite wicking grade thread locker that I put on the crack and 2 years later the crack has got no bigger. A Locktite company rep took 2 pieces of glass and clamped them toghter and put a drop at the seam and you could see it wick in between the 2 pieces. I don't know if this will work with a chip but sooner or later Ill find out.

RE: My Tips for RVing Fulltime with your Spouse

We started our full-time journey 5 months ago. Just saw a camper wearing a hat that said " I didn't wake up GRUMPY today, I let her sleep ". May be words of wisdom.

RE: Anyone ever regret upgrading

We went from a 11'Truck Camper to a 38' class A gas MH. We have owned it for 4 years and just started our full-time experience 5 months ago. The one major problem is remembering where we put things. Anything from paper work to tools.

RE: How do the full timers do it??

We have been full timing for 4 months, had no choice. Wife lost her job and unemployment benefits ran out, I was forced into retirement. We have times that we get board and don't have the money to do much. We are waiting for our social security to kick in in 3 years. You do what you have to do. The wife just today said that she was thinking if it gets to bad we could get a small 1 bdrm. apartment but she got to thinking we are living in a small apartment. So I guess its mind over matter ( If you don't mind it don't matter)

RE: Is it easy??

I installed the Blue Ox base plate on my 2008 HHR 4 years ago. If I remember right you have to drill 4- 1/2" holes in the frame rails. I had my son there to help. If you are mechanically inclined and take your time its not to bad. Just make sure you torque the bolts just in case there is a problem your covered.
