RE: Fernley NV Campgrounds

We worked there the past 2 years. We stayed both years in Sparks Marina RV Park. It is the best. Yeah you have to drive back and forth, but there is "nothing" in Fernely to do or see or shop except the nastiest Walmart I was ever in. Good luck at Amazon.

RE: Amazon; Fenley, NV campsites??

We stayed at Sparks Marina the past 2 years. It's awesome! Just have to drive from Sparks to Fernley everyday. We didn't mind. Did not want to stay at Fernley as there isn't much there.

RE: Anybody have the new dishnet system that came out 10/1/12?

So it is do able for a normal person to set these up like they would the tv dish? Unfortunately, it is not. That's why it will never be of any use for those of us on the move. It takes special equipment to point and it takes a certified installer to call the service provider and make the necessary account changes. I have heard of one person getting themselves certified and purchasing the required pointing hardware so I guess that it would technically be possible but not necessarily practical. OK, I thought sure that I saw Hugesnet dishes on top of motor homes before...I know they have the auto tracker on them. Are they different?

RE: Anybody have the new dishnet system that came out 10/1/12?

None of the current services offered from Hughes (Gen4) or from Dish (Excede) will have any application in a mobile environment in the foreseeable future due to the spot beam technologies. If you are going to remain in a fixed location for an extended period of time you are still better off with a cable or DSL connection but if these were not available the new sat services (until they get overloads as will be required to make a profit) will offer excellent speeds at reasonable prices. So it is do able for a normal person to set these up like they would the tv dish? We stay pretty much in one place for a fairly lengthy time when we move. Do not want to go with anything to do with a cell tower since we just travel out west and in the boondocks. Cell is not always available especially 3g..never any 4g. What is spot beamed? From what I have read its an independent dish pointed at a satellite between 110 and 119.

Anybody have the new dishnet system that came out 10/1/12?

I have been reading about it and reviews from people in stick houses say it is screaming fast. That is with the upgraded speed. Costs $49.99 for that at 20gb max. Then dish cuts the price $10 a month if you are already a dish customer so they can bundle it. Sounds great. I am tired of having to plan where we stay on if they have wifi (and usually bad wifi) I want to cut the last cord and be able to dry camp if I want to. My question...how hard to set up the dish? It is a separate dish the way I understand it. We already set up our hd dish as we don't have the automatic version. Anybody have the new version that just came out?

RE: Workcampers pay

Paid $8 an hour for all hours worked and paid them $400 a month for the privilege for staying at their park. They can't understand why they can't keep any help.

RE: Where is everybody?

You might find it a might chilly up there. We are in the Casa Grande area. Citrus, bougainvillea, hopefully no frost?? Chilly off and on, but we ride the desert on the 4 wheelers and hunt for gold. Can't do that everywhere. :B & how much gold have you found? Ran into a guy on the Oregon coast 2 years ago panning for gold & he did have a small jar of very tiny flakes. Just got here and haven't made it out. Have one minelab and waiting for the second to be delivered. Nuggets up here. Will let you know how it goes. Plenty of people here doing it, so I'm sure its here.

RE: Amazon Workamping

You are also not the only work campers that won't be back. At Fernley its been about 5 weeks of 57 1/2 hour weeks mandatory. I have only heard of 1 couple that will return next year out of 300. That should speak volumes since many had been there 2+ years.

RE: Where are you rv.net snowbirds?

Give us another week or so and we will be at North Ranch, north of Wickenburg, Az...riding 4 wheelers and gold prospecting! :B I came very close to buying the mining rights on 60 acres of fed. land in calif. last week. Some really sweet placer country. If only I could lift my kids other leg out of the nest. LOL If you end up with it and want someone to remove that nasty gold off of it, let me know! ;)

RE: Amazon Workamping

This is our second year. Don't know if we will come back or not. Last year we worked only 3-11 1/2 hour day which is really 12 hours 6-6. And worked 2-3 overtime days. As a work camper you only 'had' to work 44 hours a week, unless you wanted to work more. We like that because if you body was up to it you worked, if not you just did the 44. This year, 4 weeks of 11 and 12 hour days 5 days a week has been too much. Packing that many hours...your fingers and hands start going numb from repetition.

RE: Amazon Workamping

We are doing our second year at Fernley Nv, just outside Reno. We stay in Reno. Our pay is $11.50 an hour for days....same as last year. Free rent of course and we have had mandatory 57 hour weeks for the past 3 and will next week. No state income tax in NV. It is hard hard work. Not saying we will be back next year, but won't say we won't either. We started the last of October because of prior employment every year. Others started as early as September. 2 more weeks, then I can go play! :)

RE: Unbreakable Wine Glasses

I got those supposedly unbreakable plastic wine glasses, but when they topple out of the cabinet onto granite, they still break. :M

Barstow, Ca to Reno via hwy 395 doable?

Headed to Reno to work at Amazon and coming across AZ, don't want to go up from Vegas to Reno as it looks real boring. How is hwy 395 going up to Carson City? Anyone ever do it in a diesel pusher towing?

Sparks Marina is awesome. We stay there for 2 months while we work at Amazon.
