RE: Downsizing Question

No more than 10-15 days a year, I would just rent one when I needed it. Seems like a waste to own for such little use.
I agree.
With only 10-15 days per year. Another option is just rent one when in need. You can rent a big RV or a little one; thus it will give you options.

RE: Question about shingles..

Glad you are feeling better and the doc gave you meds in time. I once had shingles before my 20th high school reunion and it was on my whole left side of my face. This was also around Halloween so I really didn't need a mask when "trick-n-treating" greeting the kids at the door. :)
But the pain was awful. It was like a thousand needles sticking in my face.

RE: Wind Issues in my popup

Our PUP have been through the Santa Ana winds in Southern California. It blew down trees, transformers, large advertisement billboards; and the PUP held up. Now as most have already stated, the PUP could take more than the people inside. Trust me, I was very nervous during the night during the Santa Ana winds.

RE: Portable indoor shower?

We have a 2000 Coleman Timberlake Popup and it has an indoor toilet cassette and shower combo. We use it all the time. The Popup has a 6 gallon water heater with on-demand water. It also has a furnace. Thus, we can take a nice warm/hot shower inside with the furnace going to keep us warm during and after the shower.

RE: Philosophical question, Why do you PUP?

We are blessed and fortunate to be able to financially 'move up' in RVing/Camping. But we decided not to as we would give up what we consider 'camping' We like the open feeling that comes with a popup. But I can see ourselves moving to a RV when we retire though.

So, no reservation system in Spring, but they will take reservations for summer? Not fully understanding!

RE: 3/4 ton for a daily drive - Stupid?? - True cost to drive??

I had the same thoughts prior to the purchase of my 2500HD D/A as you did. I have in plan (in the future) of getting a 5th trailer. As I didn't want to have two payments (a new TV and a trailer), my thought was to pay off the TV first and then get the trailer. So, another thing to consider when purchasing a bigger TV than you need right now. BTW, it is very sweet driving a diesel truck (can't seem to get that silly grin off my face). At the end, it was not what I needed at the moment, but definitley what I WANTED!!

RE: What do you tow with?

I used to tow my PUP with an ASTRO van. It worked well. But I just wanted a truck and now I tow with my 2500HD diesel truck. I guess I don't have any issues with weight or sway.

Mine does that too and I just stand back during ignition. :)

RE: What about 4WD?

If you are within the weight of your trailer towing capacity, then go with the 4x4. I have used it multiple times when I had to back into sand or loose gravel. You only need 4x4 when you get stuck and that one time will determine if you need 4x4 or not.

RE: Replacing 245 75-16 with 265-75-16 on GMC

I changed mine to 265s on OEM aluminum wheels within the first month of receiving my 04 2500HD DA without noticing one bit of negative. Only postives, as I now have more max weight on the tires to play with.

We eat better at camp than at home. Breakfast is grand. Lunch is vast; and Dinner is so big that we can feed another family. :)

I too pulled my back while setting up the bed poles. Now I'm wiser, but with a weaker back, call for help when setting up the bed poles.

RE: Coleman Timberlake

Hi, I have one of those 2000 Timberlakes. Our family has enjoyed this camper for over 9 years. A very good family POPUP with showers, cassette toilet, frig, furnace, water heater, etc. We also installed an A/C and have used it on several occasions.

RE: Silverado 2500 Ride

Yea, my 2500HD rides a lot better with a lower PSI on the tires. When not towing, drop the PSI and you will notice a big difference.

RE: Any Large Family PUPers out there?

I once had 10 people sleeping in my PUP. 4 on each end and two on the diner/bed. 8 of the people were of small frame. We all slept fine. It was a little damp in the morning as there were 10 people in there all night.

RE: WiFi Signal Strength

Here is another possibility - Is your laptop relatively new? If so, it may have a newer wifi card, like 802.11n. A little older laptop/router is probably 802.11g (which has a max throughput speed of 54 mbit.) The 802.11n is a newer wireless standard and have a speed of 150 mbit. Much-much faster. I just swapped out my older 802.11g router and replaced it with a 802.11n router and WOW. I can watch streaming video like I was connected directly. If your laptop is 802.11n ready, it can detect either the 802.11n or g signal and configure automatically.
