RE: Using personal truck for commercial towing

Profit mainly is controled be fuel economy. More efficent the truck the more money that can be made. I see it as a $50,000 investment up front. I took me about 15 months/200,000 miles to turn a profit.
I was going to say you need to amortize the $50,000 investment in the truck and consider the residual value, but with 200,000 miles in less than a year and half, perhaps you did. That is a tough way to make a living.

RE: need 24" hitch extention.

Glad it worked out. I had a similar set up with no issues.
I swear if you posted here about your class 7 sleeper truck pulling a 500 pound boat trailer with a wd hitch, the weight police would tell say you don't have enough truck and need a better hitch. I am getting use to it.

RE: Class B Towing/Rear Axle Capacity

That weight calls for a good weight distribution hitch, but even then you are close or past the max. Need to sharpen your pencil and do some serious figuring.

RE: need 24" hitch extention.

Just got a lance 825 truck camper, which hangs over rear bumper by 24". need a hitch extention to pull a 3500lbs. trailer. any suggestions on where i could locate one in the phx.,az. area?
That is a real bad idea even if the hardware is available.
The problem is stability. By extending the ball (pivot point) back that far you are "in effect" reducing the wheelbase on your truck substantially (probably to an amount of less than 100"). Is that what you really want to do???

RE: Bunkhouse Recommendations

We have enjoyed our 295 KBHSS Puma by Palomino (Forrest River), both for the bunkroom that sleeps 4 with its own exterior door and the outside kitchen and TV. The price of just $20,000 helped the decision.
Good luck in your search, it is part of the fun.

RE: Can anybody identify this camper......

We were at the KOA in Salt Lake City this summer and this couple pulled in with one of those. I went over and talked to them and got the royal tour. Pretty neat little unit. It weighs in at 1700 pounds and is NOT A FIFTH WHEEL in the true sense. It uses a regular trailer hitch ball mounted midships in the P/U box...he was pulling it with a 4 banger Ranger.....Dennis
I think you are describing a goose neck, common in horse and equipment trailers, not really a regular trailer hitch.

RE: 4x4 dually offroad

I have seen the single dually replacements on some rigs on the beach. Not sure of the cost. But have heard they are more than twice a regular tire. The advantage it is easier to air down or air back up, just the one steem.

Stablizing Jacks

Why don't Class B's even the $125 K ones have stabilizing jacks? Can't be the cost. Are they just not needed like with the longer Class A's and 5ers?

RE: plate ratings

When I had my 5ver I was always interested in what other people installed in their TV. When I walked by their RV site I and they were out I would ask if I could look at what they had installed. After fulltiming for 4 years I saw a lot of 5ver junk under rated hitches. I saw hitches that I wouldn't even hook my 5ver to. If I pulled a 5ver again I would buy the best 5ver hitch I could buy. My Reese hitch was a 20K hitch but if they make a bigger one I would buy it. Don't go cheap on any hitch.

RE: 5th to TC

We are going through the same thoughts with the 5th wheel, I have just got where I hate the idea of it. We had and enjoyed TC, but know would have trouble climbing in and out, and then up to the bed.
We are now considering a class B Winnie Era 70a, just think it will be easier to get around in, and out of.

RE: looking for advice on 5th wheel purchase

Since it has just happened to me, there are lots of reasons people would trade a nearly new RV besides quality, chiefly, health.
A 5er has more moving parts and are more work than I suspected, much more.
Still I would want the new warranty if I could afford it.

RE: Towing in fog?

With fog I know to stay off the road.
But what about heavy rain, that comes up between exits. I have seen rain so heavy in Florida and South Texas that reduced visibility as much as fog.
What do you do?

RE: So we may have found "the one" except,,,,,,

It does not look like a deal breaker to me. I am more concerned about function than looks. Even so, I keep mine under cover, and after 2 years it looks as new.

RE: So we may have found "the one" except,,,,,,

Amen on only getting worse. My friend had an Award and had delam spots all over. Got worse, not from water. What a train wreck. I really don"t like outdoor kitchens as they take up space and weight that could be used for other things and I especeily don't like tv's outside as many neighbors turn out the volume too load and bother others.
I live in the middle of 40 acres, when we go camping I Google Earth the sites to be as far away from others as I can, we shut down at 9 pm, we do not bother others.

I replaced mine about two years ago for under $30. The sensor mounted out front by the grill panel was bad. Good luck.

thermometer ?

My 2002 Silverado thermometer is reading 100 degrees plus even in winter. Mostly I ignore it. But was wondering if it might be a simple, inexpensive fix, I might give it a shot.

RE: So we may have found "the one" except,,,,,,

I love the out side kitchen and TV mount on the Palomino, we spend most of our time outdoors when we can.
In addition to the small master, the small couch is not all that comfy, but the bunkhouse slide and rear door, plus the U dinnet are all nice.
But the microwave, stove, sink, and fridge make camping more fun and less work.

RE: Need recommendation for rear bike rack for 2004 Roadtrek.

There are a number of extensions made and sold for truck campers, and then you could get most any good bike rack, do a Google.
