RE: BUFFALO, NY, Where to stay?

We love Four Mile Creek ....beautiful camp ground and you can park for free in downtown Niagara Falls with your pass. It is a little bit of a distance to Buffalo though so it depends on if you're okay with that ...check it out though :)

RE: Association Island 1000 island area??

We live nearby and usually camp with friends there at least once a year. We also have a boat so we take that with us. The waves vary greatly - some days it's too rough and other days it's as smooth as glass. The smell came mostly last year because the water levels were so low ...we had no winter to speak of last year but we're making up for it this year so I would imagine that won't be a problem :) It's still snowing today. UGH!! Sackets is a cute little town with some shops and restaurants and it's nearby ..if you have a boat you can dock in Sackets and walk to those places. Watertown would be your closest for a mall, big grocery stores, etc. Depending on which way you come in you could stop there on your way ....it's not that far - probably a 20 minute drive. If you have other questions about the area feel free to let me know ...

RE: Help us plan our trip! Update : looking for ocean stay help

We listened to the advice on this forum and tried Ocean City Maryland and we've been back twice since :) We have stayed at Frontiertown which is great with the free water park with kids and we also love Castaways ...my girls are a little older now and chose Castaways over Frontiertown for our return visit. There's just so much to do right at the campground and then add in the fact that Assateague is just a few minutes away with great beaches and Ocean City has the boardwalk, amusements, boat rides, etc ...plenty to do!

RE: WNY early camping recommendations?

Association Island just turned a KOA this year ...it's beautiful but might be chilly early in the year especially on the water :) You just never know! I'm not sure if they open before Memorial Day weekend or not .. most campgrounds around here tend to open then. A beautiful place is Letchworth State park - might be a little farther than you'd like to go ...beautiful hiking and scenery there ....lots of nice state parks in the Thousand Islands area which probably would be a good distance for you but again, I'm not sure when they open ... seems like you could just wait until the last minute and make a reservation when you have a weather forecast!

RE: Niagara Falls campgrounds

If you're looking for lots of amenities then you'll have to go with one of the campgrounds already mentioned. If you don't need all of that check out Four Mile Creek State Park. Beautiful, large sites ... you can park free downtown with your state parking pass. No full hook ups but they do have electric sites with water close by.

RE: Suggestions for CG Cooperstown NY and then Niagara Falls

In Niagara Falls our vote is always for Four Mile Creek State Park ... beautiful, huge sites (some electric but no full hook ups). You can use your state park pass for free parking downtown in Niagara Falls which is nice. We usually walk over to the Canadian side one day ...the views are great from that side :)

RE: Castaways rv park Maryland

We just got home last night from a week's stay at Castaways ...this is our second time there - we went once to Frontiertown. I agree that it's gotten expensive but yet all of us want to go back :) There's so much to do there that we didn't spend as much "extra" money so I guess it all evened out. The kids love the things to play on in the water and the fishing and crabbing right from the pier. We took the free shuttle to Ocean City but bought the week's pass at Assateague National Seashore for $15 so we could drive ourselves to the beach (2 families, 4 kids, lots of stuff!) We had no problems with any of the employees - the ones we interacted with were friendly and helpful ... we liked our site - it was a back in with plenty of room. It's definitely a busy campground. Sites would open up and in a few hours someone new would be there!

RE: Niagara Falls Campgrounds

We always stay at Four Mile Creek when we go there ...beautiful campground with large sites - not full hook up but there are a lot of water spigots around to fill your tanks. Also you can park for free in downtown Niagara Falls with your park pass ( a $10 savings) If you are staying on the American side I would suggest the Maid of the Mist and if you want something else, the Cave of the Winds tour was really neat too!

RE: west pointe

I'd look into the Newburgh KOA ...not far at all from West Point and if you have extra time they have bus tours into New York City that leave right from the campground :)

RE: Last Minute Trip - Chicago to Niagara Falls - Help Please

But you can do those things on the US side too ....

RE: Last Minute Trip - Chicago to Niagara Falls - Help Please

If it were me I'd do Four Mile Creek and something else ...I honestly think you'd find a week too long for Niagara Falls. We love Four Mile Creek (and are in fact going this weekend for my daughter's soccer tournament :) and if you park there you can park free downtown in Niagara Falls which is a $10 savings each time you go. Check out the Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds ...both really neat! No pool at Four Mile Creek but a HUGE one and one with slides at Fort Niagara just down the road - free to get in with your Four Mile Creek pass and a small fee for the pool (maybe $3 for adults?? I can't remember exactly!) Good luck with your vacation :)

RE: Beachfront camping in Virginia?

We have never camped in Myrtle Beach because it's a little too far - we have gone there a lot over spring break and really like it too. We considered Virginia Beach this summer but decided to go back to Ocean City, Maryland instead. We have been there twice - once to Frontier Town and once to Castaways and the whole family decided to go back to Castaways in August. They do have buses that run to Assateague Island and to the boardwalk so that would help without a vehicle. Frontier Town has the free water park if you are camping there which is nice with kids and Castaways is on the water (not the ocean ) so the kids can swim there and there's a pool ...might be something to check into - should be even less of a drive for you than Virginia Beach ....

RE: Alexandria Bay

From Henderson Harbor to Alex Bay would probably take you between 45 minutes and an hour ....you could go back on Route 3 into Watertown and jump on I 81 to go north to the Bay. Sackets Harbor is close to Henderson Harbor with some cute little shops, the Battlefield, etc. We've had amazing weather this weekend - hope it's like this when you visit - can't beat being on the water on a day like today :) It almost makes living here worth it (minus all the winter months -LOL!)

RE: Alexandria Bay

We live near Alex Bay in Watertown so if I can help let me know. The suggestions so far are all good. Another campground to check out is Association Island. It is changing to a KOA this year so I'm not sure if that will be good or bad :) It's a nice campground in Henderson Harbor with great views - really nice place to stay if the weather is good. The State Parks in the area are all really nice too but on a weekend they are tough to get into. Watertown is the closest place for big grocery stores, mall, restaurants, WalMart, etc ...have a good trip :)
