RE: Lake Anna State Park, VA

You do not go on 15 thru Orange, you will be getting off on Rt. 3 to get on to 522 south near Culpeper so you do not go as far as Orange. If you ever do go thru Orange, we have gone under that bridge with no problem. Stay on 522, follow the VA State Park directions and you will be just fine.

RE: Lake Anna State Park, VA

I failed to mention ......before you ever get to Dickinson's store, you will see another sign for a turn to Lake Anna State Park. Do not turn left until you get to Dickinson's Store. That other route is very narrow with multiple turns and you sure don't want to be lost in the dark! The directions from Dickinson's store are also the ones that the park uses to guide their guests safely. It's the best way for you to enter.

RE: Lake Anna State Park, VA

We live in the area and love Lake Anna. You said you will be coming in on 15/29 . You will exit onto Rte. 3 in Culpeper. At the end of the ramp, make a left turn and travel to the stop light where you will make a right turn. This is 522 south that will take you to the Lake Anna area. It's a bit of a hike so don't panic. Once you start crossing water you will soon see Dickinson's Store on your left. you Turn left at the store (208). Travel 8 miles, cross a bridge. At 601 turn left (Lawyers Road). Go 3 miles and the park will be on your left. There are some narrow roads but no bridges that will present any problems. Just take is slow when you get on the narrow roads and watch for deer! The campground is very nice and quiet. Enjoy your visit!

RE: Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone

Thanks for all the information everyone has provided. It is very helpful and much appreciated. Now, can you all just make time fly so we can hit the road and get there already? Can you tell I'm excited? We have traveled to lots of the National Parks but this will be the first time we have actually camped inside of a park. I am so ready to experience waking up and enjoying early morning in Yellowstone! Thanks again everyone!

Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone

We just made our reservations for early June at Fishing Bridge. We are excited that we will be staying inside the park to take full advantage of everything there is to see. I guess we can plan on some pretty cool evening temps at night that time of year, so probably will still need a little heat at night, right? Also, since we have elderly family whom we need to stay in touch with, can anyone tell me about Verizon cell service within the park? Can someone reach us in the event of an emergency? We booked 4 nights so hopefully that will give us plenty of time there. Thanks for any info you can give us!

RE: Photographers - What DSLR do you have?

I'm not that talented in the photography department but we are planning a trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons this year and I wanted a new camera. I did my research and just got my new Canon SX50 Powershot. It has a 50x zoom that is fantastic! I saw lots of great reviews about this camera on the web and You Tube. Now I am working on learning all the features but just ordered a remote shutter switch. I have my tripod ready and I will be ready to get some great shots!

RE: Meat Loaf Recipes

This is our favorite...even when the kids were teens they asked for this one. We like it with the carrots and celery.
Country Meat Loaf
2 Tbsp. salad oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, finely chopped
3 slices whole wheat bread
2 Ibs. Lean ground beef
1 medium carrot, finely shredded
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cracked black pepper
1 egg
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1Tbsp. Light brown sugar
1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
In 2 qt. saucepan, heat oil and cook onion and celery until tender. In a large bowl, tear bread into small pieces. Add the cooked onion and celery. To this mixture, add the beef, shredded carrot, salt, pepper, egg and half of the can of tomato sauce. Mix and shape into a loaf 8"x4" in baking pan.
In a cup, combine light brown sugar, vinegar, mustard and remaining tomato sauce; mix thoroughly. Spoon sauce over meatloaf (I usually make a slight indentation for the sauce so it doesn't all roll off. Bake at 350 degrees for 1-1/2 hrs.
Cool warm or cold!

RE: What food to bring?

Our DS and his family gave us a Food Saver vacuum system for Christmas last year. Now when I have leftover meatloaf, roast beef or many other larger meals, I can place individual serving in bags and seal them. With the air extracted, they lay pretty flat. So when it's time to go I pull them out and they pack very nicely in the RV freezer. When traveling and we are tired at the end of a day, I just boil a pot of water and drop a couple in and have a quick dinner...just add salad. Don't have to worry about what we will eat or having to stop. I know we will find a good home cooked meal in our freezer.

RE: What new gear or gadgets are you RVing with this summer?

Found a spinnging napkin holder that I can secure to the table so I don't have to move it everytime we travel. Also purchased a new Oxygenics showerhead but we haven't installed it yet. Can't wait to try that out!

RE: Ugh!! It's Time To Lose Weight Again

My doctor recommended that I read the book "Wheat Belly". I was intrigued by it and gave up wheat and the bad carbs and I have lost 20 lbs. so far. The best part is that my cravings are gone and I have much more energy. I do not consider this a diet but a lifestyle that will work for me forever. I even enjoy a good cheeseburger more now without the bun!

RE: How to find SP campsite in Florida Keys

Sorry, did not mean to step on any Floridian toes. It is just what we were told by a camp host. He may have even been a "northerner" himself. Guess I will just keep checking the website or look for other places to vacation. :-)

RE: Self Adhesive Kitchen Tile Mod 2013

Your backsplash looks fantastic! I will be doing a little measuring in my RV and then checking out Home Depot! Thanks for posting your photo so we could see how great it looks. We try to avoid the RV shows because we don't want to catch that "bug" when you start to look at the new RV's. Your backsplash is a great update idea!

How to find SP campsite in Florida Keys

Last year we were lucky enough while in Florida to grab a couple days at Fort Clinch. We met a gentleman there who told us how hard it was to find sites, seems residents of Florida book them up. If they don't use them they will inform a friend who will use them or they will cancel at the last moment. Seems to be true since I have been trying to find something in the State Parks in the Keys for a weeks vacation and everything is booked until late summer! How far ahead do you have to try to reserve in order to plan a vacation? I already looked for next spring and it won't let me book that far out. Really frustrating to not be able to visit the State Parks in that area.

RE: Do You Own a Tractor

We have a 4x4 Kabota tractor with front end bucket. Also an industrial ride on zero turn Skag mower along with a small ride on lawm mower. DH and I both jump on mowers to mow our 2-1/2 acres! Makes for faster work when we do it together. MIL used to own adjoining 17+ acres that DH had to maintain. She has since had to move to assisted living so her farm was sold. At least that means less work for DH so we have more freedom to travel, but he would never part with his tractor. Great when we need to move things, especially snow!

RE: Johns Hopkins Medical Center Baltimore

Thanks for all the replies that were posted. If and when we need to travel there, I now feel prepared to make a well informed decision about where the DH will park his sweet head at night. I will certainly rest much easier knowing all this in advance. Thanks again for your help!

Johns Hopkins Medical Center Baltimore

I may need to visit the medical center in Baltimore Maryland in the near future. I was wondering if anyone knows of any places to stay with a Class C to make it more convenient for my DH to be close by? It sure would be more comfortable for him to be in his own bed and still be nearby for me. Thanks for any info you can give me. Nothing planned yet but never hurts to think ahead....makes it easier to deal with.

RE: Darkening Windows In Winnie

I bought a roll of Refletix at Home Depot, cut the size of my windows and just press it into the window track. Stays in place and close my shades over it. Makes the room very dark and I can remove them anytime I want to. Also cuts down on heat in the windows during summers.

RE: Jayco Front Floor Mats

Check out Etrailer.com. We could not find mats either until I searched the web. Looking under vans, I was able to find mats that look like they will fit our Four Winds Class C. Haven't ordered them yet but will soon. Take a look at the site and maybe you can find the right fit that you need.
