RE: Towing up a 10% grade

I did have quite the stink after descending into Palo Duro. Now I have an ABS light shining away. This is after Workhorse spent money working on my brakes. I'd say Workhorse and Bosch have a real problem with this braking issue.

RE: Towing up a 10% grade

I started out in first gear, but went right to second. No problems. Never approached 4200 rpms. Didn't tow uphill, tho'.

RE: Towing up a 10% grade

Well, I made it out OK. I just drove the MH and She Who Must Be Obeyed drove the toad. See, I didn't have a Plan B!

RE: Towing up a 10% grade

Thanks for all the replies! I'll be hooking up at the top of the drive. Yesterday there was a brief shower that flooded all the creek crossings and stranded us away from the motorhome for a few hours. Eventually we got escorted back to the rv, and then we drove out to a drier part of the park. Got thick red mud halfway up the Windy! It rinsed off, tho'. So, if you ever visit Palo Duro Canyon, don't stay in the Mesquite camping area. It's the most scenic campground in the park, but you could be stuck there for days if a real rain came along.

RE: Allison Trans 1st Gear on 10% Grade

My crummy fixed-but-not-really-fixed brakes on my Workhorse chassis'd Southwind got all stinky on the downhill part of the 10% grade at Palo Duro the other day. Now the &%$#@ antilock light is on again and I get to drive uphill tomorrow. I think I'll have DW drive the toad separately. I don't really trust anything on my Southwind no mo'. Most everything has broken at least once!

Towing up a 10% grade

Tomorrow I will be towing my 3200 pound Tribute behind the 2004 Southwind up a 10% grade at Palo Duro State Park in Texas. Is the 8 liter motor/Allison tranny on the Workhorse Chassis up to it? Or should I have DW follow the motorhome in the Tribute?

RE: Your longest trip...

Houston to San Diego to Las Vegas to Houston. Hauled momma, momma in law, 3 cats, and a toad. Had a blast.

RE: Workhorse Brake Recall, NHTSA Campaign 09V110000

Finally. I've overheated twice, with smoke and brake fade. Now if Fleetwood would only fix all the other stuff wrong with my coach....

RE: Gas or Diesel?

Folks who have 'em seem to love their used Foretravel dps. They seem to last forever! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_JjydiXHtAFM/SAQVhQTGQHI/AAAAAAAAAYU/jbQjBSKkuBw/s400/DSC00605.JPG height=200 width=180

RE: What car do you tow?

Since 2004 I've towed an '03 Saturn L300. Now I've bought a Mazda Tribute (sort of a Ford Escape in a dress). Gotta go get the base plate installed and then should have some more years of happy towing.
