RE: We lost another memeber..

That's a shame. I always enjoyed his posts. He kept things interesting around here at times. He seemed generous as he offered members here an opportunity to boondock on his land.

RE: Ladder To Cabover

I don't think it would help with the *real* problem: Climbing back out of the cabover.
I don't have any problems getting up in, but coming back down, I just don't fold that way.
That's my wife's biggest problem, combined with short legs and arthritis makes it a challenge.
Lynnsr, thanks for the pic, I'm thinking about doing something similar.
Good points all, about the barefoot thing, may have to add padding.
Worst case, buy a Class C.

Ladder To Cabover

Truckcampermagazine has an article about a ladder option for new and most older campers. Anyone have this option? Any home made versions? Looks kind of like a boat ladder.

RE: Our custom true flatbed truck camper build thread

If your plywood works out it would really look good to clearcoat and let the wood grain show.

RE: Lowest gas prices you remember.

anybody else remember Ethyl?
Maybe what we called white gas? IIRC, it was Sunoco that had several grades of gas. You turned a dial for the blend you wanted. The guys with the high performance cars would advance the timing and run "white gas".
Some of us are showing our ages. :W

I remember gas in the low twenties. And don't forget your green stamps.:C
I remember being shocked when banks started offering loans on new vehicles for 4 years instead of 3. :E

Looks to be a '63 Ford Galaxie in the middle and maybe a Mercury Comet on the far side.

RE: What truck camper ovens are good for

I love it! Cooks much like an oven (why I posted in this thread). Cooking times ,in my experience, take longer than the cooking chart included with the grill call for. It's great for slow cooking.
I use my Webber Q for steaks and burgers.

BTW...what are scotch eggs???
There are many variations but mainly boiled eggs wrapped with sausage, goes good with PBR and tomato juice. :B

RE: What truck camper ovens are good for

I don't have an oven and try to plan meals accordingly. But when I have to bake something like scotch eggs and biscuits, I use my Holland Companion grill.

RE: Lance 9000 Project

Wow!! I'll be watching this one. Threads like this with pictures of rot shows the importance of maintaining caulking. If nothing else, you will be encouraging others to check for leaks.
I may have missed it in the thread but I've heard of people "burping" a non working fridge. From what I remember, you turn the whole unit upside down for a while. Might be worth a try before you replace it?
Good luck on your project.

RE: Clinton State Park, KS

Thanks for the first hand info. I really am just looking for a place to park at night as we will be spending a fair amount of time in Lawrence. Might even slip some fishing in. I'll also look closely at Lake Perry.

Any first hand experience?? Did a search and got 0 results. I read it is near a nuclear facility. Can't even find many reviews online.

RE: Looking a buy a netbook

Wow, the OP states they want opinions on two different netbooks. Not netbooks vs tablets.
I like my Acer for travel, the 10.1" is perfect size for me. Like others have said, no internal cd drive. the 7 hours battery is close to what I get, that is use time not standby time. Not familiar with the Gateway but I'm sure it is fine.

RE: Time to replace the batteries - advice?

Thanks for the clarification on reserve capacity and amp-hours. My needs for 2 12V vs 2 6V, is for the batteries to do double duty. 24V trolling motor when not using camper. It appears for dedicated camper batteries, you guys with the 2 6V's are getting the best bang for the buck.

RE: Time to replace the batteries - advice?

Forgive my battery ignorance, but isn't going from two 12 volt batteries to two 6 volt batteries a step backward? I went to Sams Club website and found Energizer 6 Volt Premium Golf Cart Battery - Group Size GC2. Is that the one you are talking about?
No and yes. Your GP24s are typically 80AH batteries giving you 160 AH capacity with 80AH readily available for use. 2 GC2s at 230 AH in series to give 12volts is 230 AH capacity and 115AH (almost 50% more usable capacity for roughly the same price over the GP24s) readily available for use. The GC2s are true deep cycle batteries and can take discharges to 50% charge 100s of times with little degration. The marine 12v GP24s can't take kind of abuse as readily and will fail much quicker.
Battery discussions always confuse me. I recently replaced my original Interstate grp 24 with two new Interstate grp 24's. The original was 8 1/2 years old and getting a little weak. My local Interstate distributor also carries Optima blue tops and gave me an excellent price of $200 each. I was all set to justify the price but he talked me into saving $'s and staying with wet cell.
My SRM-24's states a reserve capacity of 140 amps, X 2 batteries should give me 140 usable amps???

RE: Airing down?

I start with 30 rear, 25 front. If truck seems to struggle, I go as low as 25 rear, 20 front.
