RE: Triple E question

You might have some blockage. Last week we hooked up to an RV park source and had both hot and cold water in the bathroom but nothing at all in the kitchen. After disassembling the kitchen tap I found some****** that was caught at an inline check valve. It might have been calcium chips from the water heater, don't know. Once removed everything was good.

RE: RV Wholesalers.com..?

We bought from RVW in Feb of 2011, 1200 miles from home. Management of the sale and details went pretty well and the savings were substantial, between 7 & 8k. Communications during the process were very good.
I'm way behind on my Trailer Life reading. I'm very interested in learning the name of the defunct warranty company. We bought a 7 year warranty from RVW but cancelled it after a year, once we realized what it doesn't cover, and that most of the major trailer components have >1 year warranty. The warranty was about our only beef with RVW, and the size of the refund was less than originally stated by them when we committed to the cancellation. If what they sold us was from a defunct company I'm going back to get a full refund.

RE: Car & Truck insurance went up 70%

I just renewed with 21st Century for the truck and Foremost for the trailer. 21st has an association with Foremost for RV's. Foremost gave me a competitive quote for full-timing, i.e. liability coverage is included. RV stayed the same and truck went up about $1. Truck should have gone down since it's older now, but presently too busy to do the requote thing. Annual total for both is about $1850.
Interesting thing about credit rating... we paid off everything last year when we retired. This year we are buying a house & I feared the worst when applying for the mortgage. Turns out our rating was excellent. The wife has been taking store credit card offers when making larger purchases in order to get discounts, then immediately paying off balance and not using the card again. Her credit rating is better than mine, well over 800 and we are getting an excellent mortgage rate.

RE: Truck ride with big toy hauler

I have your exact truck, completely stock. It rides extremely well with my 18k toy hauler hitched on. Sag gets excessive if I don't drain the gray & black tanks. I don't carry fresh water. Almost no chucking, maybe once every few days I hit a bump that causes a chuck. This includes the past month criss-crossing Colorado, with a Pull-Rite Super 5th (25.5k rating).
My ***** is the ride when not pulling. Considering going to Bilstein shocks for that purpose.

RE: Computerized Stuff on new Ford - aarg

I'll give you a big annoyance on Ford's GPS. I really like it except.... the danged thing can only save 25 addresses in the address book. It seems I'm often having to delete good destinations that I would prefer to keep. There's room for a few thousand songs in the 'jukebox'. I'd be happy with a couple of hundred songs and give more room for favorite destinations.

RE: Smell INSIDE the rig when dumping Black Water Tank

We've had an intermittent odor problem in the past. We essentially follow what LouisKathy posted. Even though we have a built-in tank flusher, we figured out that some material was hanging up further up the line, i.e. somewhere between the toilet and the tank. About once a month, or whenever some odor is detected we run the hose in through the door and blast water down through the toilet for several minutes. So far this has always worked.
Lots of other good ideas posted here, surely you'll get to the bottom of the issue.

RE: Why Do Things Cost A Lot More In Canada?

Having lived many years in both countries and having done a lot of travel when working, my observation is that the U.S. and Canada are two of the very best countries in the world. I'll put Australia in the same class. Another is likely New Zealand but I've not spent any time there.
I love the U.S. I wish we all had a more healthy lifestyle (me included). If we did, and we clamped down on waste in the system and frivolous lawsuits, we could seriously improve the cost of healthcare.

RE: Computerized Stuff on new Ford - aarg

Went to Best Buy and got the GM ON Star mirrow installed. 600 min. for 10 usd.Like some others I do not like the syn or GPS(good pile of s*&*). It loves to be mis-directional as to the shortest routs, and routes you downtown most of the time just forgot to install a true blond as the voice!!! (sorry ladies) but the GPS is garbage compared to garmin.
Not my experience. I've used a portable Garmin for several years, and I much prefer the in-dash Ford unit. My Garmin gives bad advice about 3x more often than the Ford. Both will do it, so it pays to look out the windshield once in a while to see what's going on.
Two disclaimers that might favor Garmin:
-I've never updated my Garmin. It's at least 4 years old
-I sat down and really learned the Ford. Never did this for the Garmin so sometimes struggle with the commands.

RE: Electric awning and tie down

thanks for all the good info!
I have no idea on the awning but I will investigate the manufacturer and see if it auto tilts. I don't think so but I will definitely check.
Cecilt, thanks for the post on how you set yours up. that gives me an idea on what to do!
Mine is a Carefree of Colorado. No tilt or rain dump. They make an adjustable version now. It would require replacing the arms on mine. Have not checked on what it would cost yet.
I looked into the cost to convert to adjustable arms on my electric Carefree. They won't sell direct and PPL quoted something well over $800. I'm trying to get up the guts to trim the length of my existing arms to give me some pitch. I'm with those who would rather have a manual awning. I added a 10ft manual one and I keep it out and tied down almost all the time. I have to always be mindful of the electric one, especially when leaving for a while.

RE: Offline for 5-6 weeks. Will you miss me?

Maybe you know this one, but there's a neat & uncrowded road from Rapid City to Deadwood. Head west on Omaha Street. It changes names one or two times and eventually turns into a canyon road. Watch out for large critters.

RE: Why Do Things Cost A Lot More In Canada?

I emigrated from Canada to Texas in 1995. I knew things would be less expensive but was absolutely shocked at the improvement in my buying power. My wife worked as an RN for many years in both medical systems. Both have seriously huge issues but that's a bigger topic than RVing. From what I'm seeing, the gap between the two countries has lessened. Canada is somewhat more like the U.S. than they used to be. (What, a Reform Party guy is PM?...) The U.S. is moving very rapidly towards Canada. Prices & taxes and socialism are all on the rise.

RE: Carefree, Travel'r Adj pitch awning

Not sure you can. Mine does not have adjustable pitch; wish it did. Regardless, it can & will partially retract under the weight of rain water and 'self-dump'. This feature can be big trouble in a high wind. I try to retract it before the wind gets too heavy and when leaving the trailer. Once the wind gets under it and grabs it you've got a challenge to get it wound in. I got away with this once, don't want to try my luck again. Maybe somebody's got an idea or some sort of solution?

RE: Another question about the Pullrite Superglide

I have a 25k Pullrite Super 5th in my longbox. It works perfectly and I like the full wrap around the pin that I can easily see before trying to pull. I get almost no chucking with my 18k trailer. When it was brand new I had my doubts. At first I had a really hard time getting it to release. This is my first 5th wheel and the problems were human error, i.e. lack of lubrication and lack of knowledge. When it comes to my hitch I am a happy camper now.

RE: AC Not Keeping Up

Also look at direction you park. If possible, sitting east-west minimizes the sun hitting the long side wall in addition to roof.

RE: fuel mileage with a Ford F350 diesel

2011 F350 duallie towing a 13'6" x 41 ft toy hauler that scaled at 18,275 lb. Best ever was flat, no wind @ 62 mph leading to 10.0 mpg. Worst was about 7 mpg in the mountains. Typical is the mid to upper 8's. For me, the wind is almost as big a factor as the hills.
