New Duramax/Allison and limited fuel

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that I have my dream truck (09, DA, GMC 2500HD Crew 4X4, Short bed) I have to deal with the ONE thing I hate about GMC short beds - a 26 gallon fuel tank. I will be towing a very light 5'er (7200 lbs loaded for the road) and I expect a significantly improved MPG over my 6.0 gasser but even so 26 gallons is a pain in the butt. What I'm looking for, ideally, is a combo-diesel fuel tank of about 30 gallons + or _ a few gallons and a small tool box that will fit in from of my fifth wheel hitch and, at the max, flush with my bed rails. The 09 has a bed that is about 1.5 to 2 inches deeper than legacy trucks so that might give me a slightly greater volume for the new tank/toolbox combo. I'm looking for recommendations that will tie my main tank and the aux tank together possibly with the capability to monitor both and to either move diesel from the aux to the prime or to switch between the tanks. Any ideas would help. Thanks in advance, OldSoldier

RE: 2008 GMC 2500HD w/ Duramax and Allison

Lord I envy you. I really want a 2500 diesel sooooooo bad. But none of the dealers want to give me what my 05 6liter gasser is worth. They are willing to give me a great mark down on the new truck, but only about 1/2 of what the gasser is worth. "The dealer giveth and the dealer taketh away." :S Frustrated and disappointed.

RE: What % do you set your brake control.

Three years ago I started with my brake controller set at about 28. Since then it has crept up to about 38. This is due primarily to 2 situations. 1. As the 5'er ages, the brakes wear. I have them serviced and inspected every 5er and they are still in good condition, but aging. 2. Mamma keeps adding to the load. :B It's natural for both. Both are irristable forces of nature. Good luck, and just keep checking the brakes. :)

RE: Fishtale

Even a light weight 28 foot Jayco is too much trailer for your truck. The BEST Tacoma in 2008 model tows a max of 5000 lbs. My 25 ft JayFlight weight 6100 empty. You need some really competant first hand advice whether your TV and Trailer are a decent match. And not the dealer who sold you either one. Good luck
