RE: How long do your batteries last?

I choose a different route, I installed an Interstate 4DM 12volt battery
which is the largest one I could find that would fit between the rails of
the tongue. Was nesc. to slightly modify mount frame. the battery weights
119 Pounds, I installed a hundred watt solar panel and as a result have
never run low on power. I have dry camped for as long as seven days running
the heater at night and as long as there was some sunshine during the day
battery stayed charged. I did replace the battery after 5 1/2 years because
it didn't charge to a high of voltage as it usually did however it didn't go dead.

TT Axel Fatigue

My TT is 8 years old and am having some increase in tire wear.
The tires on the rear axel are both wearing on the in side
like the axel has lost some of it's camber. Has any one experienced
this kind of wear due to fatigue in the axel metal?
My axels have a combined weight rating of 7000 lbs and I have
weighted the trailer load twice and both times the load on the axels
was at 6900 lbs so have been traveling with just short of maximum
weight. I have apprx. 45000 miles on the trailer.

RE: Annual Maintenance?

while your doing your maintenance make sure you check the towing ball nut for
being tight, mine came loose last year no damage. I retightened it using
a 3/4 drive socket with a breaker bar and a cheater handle.

RE: Water Accumulator size

The accumalators are charged by using an outside air source, like a
home air compressor or at a gas station that has facilities to air
vehicle tires.

RE: Hole in tub

I have a crack in my tub in the house, I used etrnabond patch for temporary
repair, I could not find any type of permanent repair. The tub in the house and trailer tub are made from same material. I will have to replace tub to make
an effective permanent repair. I suspect the same remedy will be required for
your tub.

RE: Travel thru Vancouver,BC

I neglected to state in first post I will be comming from
the east (Jasper NP)and will be on the Trans-Canada Hi-way.
The terminal most of you prefer looks, at least on the map
having more turns and streets involved which would increase
my chances of making a wrong turn therefore I will use the
TCH and horse shoe bay ferry.I will allow a hour to transit
the city as traffic acording to all posters will be fairly
heavy. The fact the ferry terminal turn off is well marked
and which way to turn is good info. I will definitely make
reservations as you'all have suggested.
Thanks much for the info, it helps to hear from some one "on
the ground".

Travel thru Vancouver,BC

In early August we will be traveling to Vancouver Island,it
will be nesc. to drive thru Vancouver to get to the
Horse Shoe bay ferry terminal. My question is that I plan
on using the Trans-Canadian hi-way thru the city, what kind of
traffic will I encounter if I travel late in the morning or
early afternoon? Also getting from the TCH to horse shoe bay
ferry terminal is that an easy transition? I ask this as I am
not used to driving in a city with a TT and would like to have
an idea as to what kind of traffic will be encountered.

RE: Grey water tank upgrade

I have installed a grey water tank in a TT that had just one waste water tank.
What I did was measure how much space I had then went to a TT trailer repair
and parts store and went through their catalog of waste water tanks (many tanks
in that book). I found a tank I could use, then I determined where the drain
fitting would be located and then the inlet drain location, the dealer then
"welded" the new inlet and outlet fittings in place. It will be nessary to
install new mounting straps, or in your case modify the ones you now have.
Considering you already have the plumbing installed connecting to the new
tank should not be a problem. so if you make careful measurements and plan
well it can be done with out too much hassle.

Canadian parks,Banff & Jasper

We are planning a trip to both Canadian national parks,Banff andJasper
during late July or early August.Since I would prefer not to make
reservations and I understand that time period is their most busy
times, does anyone have experience with availability of unreserved
camp sites during that time period? We would like to stay near Lake
Louise in Banff and somewhere south of the town site of Jasper.
We are also having a difficult time finding the size of trailer the
various camp grounds can accomadate, does any one have a source for
this type of information? Our TT is 28 Ft long which is probably
close to average.

RE: Occasional boondocking, 25 foot TT.......battery?

I have used an Interstate SRM-4D battery for six years and has plenty of capacity.
Since you have a distributor close by you might check on the price. The battery is
quit large and weights 119 pounds but fits well into the frame space provided
for standard batteries. The mount needs modified but since you can do that your
self thats no problem. I was unable to get a battery box large enough so
bolted two standard box tops together, they cover the battery very well.

RE: breakaway switch

By all means connect the break-away switch to some point other than the hitch.
I suggest the bumper or the truck frame, because if the hitch breaks loose from
the truck and the break-away cable is connected to the hitch the trailer
brakes will not be activated as the whole cable will be with the detached hitch.
The fact that the hitch can break away from the TV frame is something I amost
learned from experience as I had 3 of the 6 tabs that hold the hitch to the
frame fail, fortunately I discovered it before it completely failed.
I now have a much heavier hitch installed which has 8, grade 8, mounting
bolts and the hitch weights 75#.
