I think this truck is a wee bit overloaded...
Now *that's a loaded truck!
Yes, this is a random posting.
I thought of this forum when I saw that picture, and also last week on 1-5 near downtown Seattle. I saw a person driving a trailer much like mine. I'm pulling mine with a 1500 block Suburban, and it's pushing it. The person I saw was pulling it with a mid 90's model Ford Explorer! I promise you the front of that truck was bouncing up like nobody's business, and the hitch was just dragging.
What have you seen lately that made you scratch your head, or say to yourself "now *that is an accident waiting to happen!"?
RE: Oh, Come ON Now
sounds like one for the *action line* with good sam/trailer life
This was suggested. I wonder what my chances are of them actually being able to help. Especially since the first place that "fixed" it is "Good Sam approved" (@@).
Oh, Come ON Now
My slide out has STILL not been fixed.
The original place that did the "repair" said I can bring it back to them (um, hello? You're in TX, I'm back in Seattle!) but that they won't promise anything. I could drive all the way back there and end up having to pay for the camp site again at their facility, *and pay for the repair again.
I call a local place, that has worked on our trailer before. The one guy that has fixed the slides like this before is on vacation, so we bring it up to him after he gets back. He wants to run bolts through the slide up through the roof. I mention that KZ said that the slide needs an adjustment, he says there's nothing to adjust.
I go to the next RV place on my list, which is a KZ dealer. The service manager comes out to look at it. First he can't figure out that there is a slide out. Takes him a few minutes to figure out that it's a manual (which I had said, but whatever). Then he breaks my curtain rod, ripping it out of the wall. Then he says he isn't sure how to fix the slide. I leave, with my ripped out curtain rod and still no closer to getting repaired slide out.
Okay, so now I"m getting annoyed. I call KZ again, and explain to the woman what the problem is. She tells me to call xxx place, which is a good three hours from me. I immediately call, and get a recording. Leave a message (this is on Friday). I call again Monday. I call again Tuesday. I get the recording each time. I finally get hubby on the job, and tell *him to call. He finally manages, after a completely roundabout way, to get a hold of the service department. They tell him he can bring the trailer in on the 18th, drop it off, and that they might possibly get to it that week.
So. REALLY? Is is THIS HARD to get an RV fixed?
So let's recap. Place #1 "fixes" my slide. It rips out within 24 hours of departure, leaving holes in the ceiling panel, ripping the roller seals from the rear slide, rendering my bunk light unusable (which they had just fixed), and bending part of my couch where the slide lands on it (this is a rear slide out, five feet). They refuse to do anything except tell me to "come back, and we'll see if we're at fault". They make no apologies, no amends, nothing.
Place #2 wants to do something that will void the rest of the warranty on my roof.
Place #3 has no idea what they are doing.
Place #4 has a long wait time, and can't give us a turn around time.
I won't even go into how my summer plans have been trashed by this.
So please, make me feel better. Have YOU had this much trouble getting your RV fixed? How does one find a reputable repair center that STANDS BEHIND their repairs?
RE: Roadside Assistance Insurance
I have Camping World ERS, and the last two times I've needed them, they couldn't find anyone. It took, quite literally, hours to locate and get anybody out to my location.
RE: 50 Amp?
There are some very nice 5th tow vehicles with considerable seating capacity. I saw one a few months ago - a custom rig - I think it was a freightliner variant - not sure what the seating capacity was but they set Mcdonalds back 20 minutes!
I fear that will be wicked out of my price range. I'm going to start poking around and see if I can find a used turtle top.
RE: 50 Amp?
Dh hasn't been so keen on anything that has an engine. He's preferring a bumper pull of some type. If either of us were handy with engines, that'd probably be a different story. ;-)
PS we need one that sleeps eight to ten, as there are eight people in our family. Right now, we have two more kids for an undetermined amount of time, so that makes ten. In a 2505. No, I haven't lost my mind. Yet.
50 Amp?
First, I am asking this because I do not know.
Are there TT's with 50 amp service?
Our family is in a position of trying to make a decision of what move to make next for an upgrade. Now that we're out of a house and OTR, our Frontier 2505 is just simply inadequate. This is expected, we bought the 2505 with the intention of upgrading in a year or so.
On our list of weighing wants vs. needs, a TT we can put a small washer and dryer in as at the top. I don't know if this is possible in a TT, so I'm counting on you all to help us out here! :-) All the TT's I'm finding are 30 amp.
PS a fiver is a possibility, but definitely we would have to go to a two vehicle set up to make this happen, as we have too many passengers to fit even a large cab truck. We also considered a bus, but dh isn't wanting to go that route.
RE: campsite proud of their dumpstation
I routinely see campgrounds charge $10-15 for use of the dump station for people who are not already paying for a campsite, this is normal.
I have never paid more than $5 to dump, and that's only if I can't find a free dump station. Flying J has been good to me for free dump stations, and depending on the state you might be able to use a dump station at a rest area.
RE: The Trip From *****
Your slide can get out of adjustment/alignment. Which apparently, mine is. LOL.
And yes, the latches are buckled in properly each and every time. KZ told me it's just something that sometimes happens. More likely if you don't stick to main roads - I do, but the previous (original) owners, may not have.
RE: That was totally uncool
The one above is from the left hand side, and this was from Tuesday. This one below is from yesterday (wait, day before yesterday?) and before it fell totally on the couch, and is the right hand side.

RE: That was totally uncool
So, my slide out comes out the back. It's five feet - a queen size bed. There are tracks that the it slides in on, and apparently is not to hold the weight, it's just to guide it.
Both sides pulled out from the ceiling, ripping a hole in the ceiling panel, and tearing out the metal in the track. And, sorry for the crappy res, these are from my cell phone and dh uploaded them for me to shutterfly.

RE: That was totally uncool
I'm not heading east until August. Right now I'm trying to get to home base (Seattle area) in time for my son's birthday (on the 1st).
RE: That was totally uncool
Well, we've been in contact with the dealer/center that made the repairs since Tuesday. I sent them pictures. Today I got an email that said that it must be out of alignment, and I should bring it back.
Um. I am almost nine hundred miles away. The slide out is inoperable. It's propped up/wedged with pieces of wood.
The dealer in OKC that KZ sent us to was of no help. They wanted $120 to look at it, and couldn't look at it until the following Monday (this was on Tuesday).
And what I want to know is - WHY was the alignment not checked when we brought it in for the repair???
RE: The Trip From *****
I figured this would be a good "practice" rig (translation: my own rv, not one that belongs to family). I had no idea a year later that I would be wanting to beat my head against the nearest wall.
I should change my siggy to "pining for a Jayco 324 BHDS, or maybe even an REI tent".
You might not want to bang your head on the wall in your TT, it might fall into the street!!!
LOL!

RE: The Trip From *****
well, the rear slide out (which completely ripped out of the ceiling this time) is now wedged up, enough to get me home. The other issue - there was a previous blow out, and a temporary patch job was done. That whole thing came apart. Fortunately, it's not as bad as I feared, even though twisted metal is visible. He said it is safe to drive. Whew.
I'm going to go limp my way back to Seattle now. Still waiting to hear back from the first shop that "fixed" the rear slide.
The Trip From *****
Holy crap. I don't even know where to start.
Let's just say that I'm thinking that a tent is a better idea right now.
And, if I EVER make it home......
I'm waiting on a tow truck right now, I'll update after I find out exactly how bad it is.
