RE: Lafayette, La. RV park

We liked Frog City. It does have a small pool. A little better than a parking lot, maybe.
A visit to Pre Jean's would make the trip even more enjoyable! Love that place!

RE: Great Basin NP

We stayed at the RV Park at the UT border in Baker several years ago. It wasn't first class, but it provided what we needed. We ate at the restaurant, and it wasn't bad. The side of the building that is in NV had slot machines. Kinda funny that the building was right on the border. We were in a 38' MH at the time, and the campgrounds in the park wouldn't accomodate us. As mentioned earlier, the park has very few visitors, and neither does the RV Park.

RE: Downtown Riverside RV Park - North Little Rock

The view can't be beat. Not necessarily a good neighborhood, though. There is a walking bridge nearby where you can walk to downtown LR. Try to catch the Farmers' Market on Saturdays before noon. Check at the office, it may operate another day of the week as well.
Have fun!

RE: Campground Recommendation - Oregon Beaches

We have stayed at Fort Stevens, Nehalem Bay, and Beverly Beach State Parks. From our campsite at Nehalem, we could hear the surf, and be at the beach in five minutes. The trees are very thick at FS & BB that the campsite was almost dark most of the time. I liked our site at NB, because it was more open.
Our pics of Nehalem Bay:
Take a walk to the beach.

RE: Looking for Glacier NP camping advice

Loved your post about kids, Barb!
To the OP: Reservations can be made at Fish Creek on the west, and St. Mary on the east on recreation.gov, but I tried to see if any sites are available using some random dates in July, and couldn't find any available. I don't know if there is some kind of time restriction, such as, reservations can only be made within six months, or something like that. You could call the recreation.gov number and see. 1-877-444-6777
Good luck! Hope you have a great time in Glacier!

RE: Lake Whitney State Park

I checked Reserve America, and the sites are assigned at your arrival. I suppose you could drive through and pick out a vacant one. Good luck. It is a nice park, and there are sites big enough for your rig.

RE: Glacier NP?

A good time and place for wildlife is at sunrise at Two Dog Flats(?) There was a sign there designating the spot. I believe it is close to St. Marys Campground. One morning we saw a huge herd of elk, and later two black bears crossed the road.

RE: Lake Whitney State Park

I haven't been there in quite a while, but your chances for shade are much better than a view of the lake. The sites are in a big loop, which is a bit of a distance away from the lake, but definitely walking distance. The last time I reserved a site at a TX state park, I used Reserve America. That site will tell you the shade description, as well as how long the site is. Click on the site number, and a list of facts will come up.

RE: Glacier NP?

I don't know about the age that passports are required, but if you have to pay $200 for the teens' passports, my opinion would to spend an additional day on the east side: Two Medicine, Many Glacier, East Glacier Lodge. Waterton is nice, but no nicer than the areas just mentioned.

RE: Overnighting in Bighorn National Park

The best National Forest Campground between Buffalo and Ten Sleep, IMO, is Sitting Bull. It is reservable on recreation.gov
We parked our 43' motorhome there with no problem.
For pictures, go to:
Campsite
Do the drive through the Crazy Woman Canyon (leave the rig in the campground) Crazy Woman Canyon
Have a great time. It's beautiful up there!

RE: what to see on Montana visit?

In addition to those places already mentioned, we really enjoyed Helena. We toured the Capitol, and the Cathedral. Both were very interesting. When we were in the Cathedral, the organist happened to walk through, and when the guide told us who he was, we begged him to play. Fantastic!
Spend as much time as possible at Glacier. One of my favorite plaes in the world!

RE: suggestions for camping in Dallas for a month

More info: Pilot Knoll Park appears from its website, that it may no longer be a COE park. It appears that it is owned by the city of Highland Village. The rates sound reasonable. ($20/night) The Vineyards for a standard site without sewer is $31. Lewisville Lake Park is $20/night for W/E.

RE: suggestions for camping in Dallas for a month

The Vineyards, while being the closest available park to DFW, is quite expensive, I understand. Of course, it won't cost you anything to call and ask them about their rates. Trader's Village in Arlington is not far from DFW. Also in Lewisville is Lewisville Lake Park, which should be affordable. There are COE parks on the lake, too. There's one on the south side of the lake near Copper Canyon, called Pilot Knoll, I believe. Hickory Creek is very nice, on the north side, but fairly hard to get to for a daily commute. Well, so is Pilot Knoll, but it's a little closer.
Hope this helps.

RE: Ft Clinch SP, in Florida

We camped in the trees with our MH at the time, 38'. Very tight and dark. The beach sites are much better for larger rigs. Sorry, I don't know about site numbers, but it didn't look like there were any that were unfavorable.

RE: Glacier NP--East or West?

How long are you going to be in the area? If it's more than 6 days, divide your time in half, and stay a few days on both sides. In my opinion, there is more to see on the east side. The travel day from one side to the other is scenic in itself. Johnson's is my favorite on the east. The lower side will have no problem with your satellite, but there is no sewer there. There is a dump, however.
You are going to a beautiful place!

RE: Laurel, Montana

We spent one night at the above mentioned park by the river. We were OK, but we felt a tad uneasy because of a few of our neighbors. This was two years ago, before the economic downturn, but it appeared there were people there living out of their cars. I would definitely check it out before staying there. I didn't look in the restrooms, so I can't say how they were. We had 30 amp and water, but the exact campsites were a little difficult to figure out. But we did find room for our 38' motorhome.

RE: Lake Superior Camping

Well, I've only camped on Lake Superior once, but this place is among my favorites of all time. The amenities are lacking, and the campsites are not well marked, but the view makes up for all that. It is in Munising, MI, and it is a city park called Munising Tourist Park. Sounds kinda like the 50's, doesn't it? Well, this park looks like the 50's too, but that might not be such a bad thing!

RE: Glacier campground recommendations for RVs

How about staying a few days on the west side, then moving to the east? The road is good going around the park to the south, and is scenic in itself. Stop to see the goat lick on the southwest side (plenty of parking). Stop at the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier to check out the lobby.
Allow more time on the east side since there is more to see, as previously stated. To give Glacier justice, you need way more than just an afternoon on either side.
Have a great time!

RE: dallas area camping

Assuming you will be coming from the north on 35E, take the exit just past the Swisher Rd exit. From the access road, watch for the Rave Theatre and the Texas Land and Cattle Restaurant on the right. Turn to the right onto Turbeville just past the restaurant. At the stop sign, turn left on Point Vista. Drive 1/2 to 3/4 mile and watch for the entrance to the park on the right. It shows up in a hurry after you pass a stand of trees on the right.
It's a very nice park. Happy camping!
