RE: Theft

After putting our "Slow, Grandparents at Play" sign out in numerous campgrounds over the last few years, it was stolen while we were at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach, FL in March of this year. We chalked it up to spring break and the large number of kids partying in the campground while we were there. Disappointing but not too surprising.

RE: Ludington State Park Michigan

Oh, and you can fill your water tank at the dump station (located at the campground entrance) as well as the parking lot at the check-in station.
A little off subject but...we would never use a hose next to a damp station for filling our water tank! Even those marked as potable water. We've seen what people do with those hoses at dump stations. Since they're usually leaving they don't seem to care that they're contaminating the potable water hose.
No thanks. ;)

RE: Barker has upgraded there portable waste totes

My DH's comment when I read him this was "it's about time"! ;) We have the old 42 gallon tote which he put four pneumatic tires on when we got it. It is nice to be able to take care of that job without alerting the entire campground! :)

RE: Ludington State Park Michigan

Hello Everyone,
I`m looking for some feedback, good or bad on Ludington S P in Michigan. My wife and I are planning on going there this Sept. for a week or so. We are camping in a 24ft Class C MH. Are the sites small, private, wide open etc. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance ;)
We spent a few days there in Sept. 2011. The area is beautiful! We were in the campground where the store is located and were not impressed. The sites are very close together with no privacy in-between. You will have electric hookup but nothing else. You have to fill your water tank from a spigot in the parking lot where the check in facility is located, which is quite a distance from the campgrounds.
We enjoyed riding our bikes there and exploring the surrounding area but we couldn't figure out what the popularity of the state park campgrounds was about. Perhaps we were confused because our Missouri state parks are so much nicer. :)

RE: Tablerock Lake Anyone?

In south Ar right now but headed for Tablerock St Park tomorrow. Just wondering about the weather and how high the lake was. We are in campground 2.We are really getting the rain in Ar. Heard on the weather radio for campgrounds in Degray, Daisy, and Catherine to be alert to rising water. Hope everyone stays safe. Lynn
Table Rock Lake level as of a few minutes ago is 917.50. That's only a couple of feet about pool so it's in great shape. We've kept a boat at the lake for many years and it's nice to have normal lake levels again! We've had either flooding (lake levels at or over flood stage of 931.) or levels so low we had a long walk to the dock.
The weather cleared off today and is supposed to be beautiful the next couple of days. We have a slight chance of rain from Tues. - Sat. but it's minimal. Next Sunday's (06/09) chances right now are around 60%. Of course, that can all change very rapidly, especially this time of the year and based on the current storm patterns.
We love Table Rock State Park. We prefer campground #1 but #2 has full hookups. Great walking/biking trail right next to the campground and if it's warm enough you can walk down to the water and swim.
Enjoy your stay!

RE: Cable Pullys on Slide-Outs

We have three large cable slides on our 2012 Open Range 345RLS and love them. We've had our trailer for over two years and traveled 19,000 miles with lots of moving the slides in and out with no problems -- zero issues! Yes, we do check them (it's called preventative maintenance and is recommended for everything on an RV) to make sure the correct tension is on the cables and adjust if needed but that's very easy and done inside the trailer. We've never had a water leak and we've been in some very heavy rains. (10 inches in 24 hours this spring!)
There are going to be people on here tell you they're a bad idea, they don't work, they break, they don't like them, etc. but those will be the folks who don't have them and therefore don't know what they're talking about. ;) We wouldn't want another kind of slide now that we've had the cable slides. Ours are the Bal Accu-slide.
BAL Accuslides
Edited to add: If as the previous poster stated the cables stretched -- they are easily and cheaply replaced. You can get a set of replacement cables for $25. from Amazon and the installation is a quick and easy job. Certainly easier and cheaper than replacing electric motors or hydraulic systems. We have friends who had a huge oil leak under their bed from their hydraulic slide out. Yuk!

We have stayed at the "Toad Suck Lock and Dam" COE campground several times. If they sold T-shirts, I'd buy one! :)

RE: Overnight Near Sheridan WY

Need help again for a one night campground near Sheridan WY in Jul. Would prefer near I 90 with at least electric. Any ideas appreciated.
Peter D's RV Park, right off I-90 in Sheridan. The sites are really close together but it's a nice little campground. Pete is super nice. Very clean restrooms and laundry, super large dog run, and quiet.

RE: How good are you at Geography, traveled much?

Try guessing where you are.....
http://www.geoguessr.com/
That was fun but I wish you could be more pin point accurate with the placement of a guess. I'm pretty up on geography but this could be a good learning tool. Thanks for posting the link. I'll challenge the grandkids with it! ;)
Peg
On the main screen you can navigate around the scenery like on Google Street View.
In the small map you can zoom into street level to pick your guess.
I figured out the navigating around the scenery and that's pretty neat! I hadn't thought of changing the small map though. Thanks!
PS -- Did I mention I'm spending way too much time playing with this?! :)

RE: 5th Wheeler VS RV

what are the benefits of a 5th wheeler VS an RV. We are a couple wanting to purchase and travel USA for 12 months
Fifth Wheels are RVs.
RV stands for "Recreational Vehicle". Are you wanting to know the differences between a 5th wheel and a Class A motorhome?

RE: Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone

Nearly everyone who needs cell service leave the park to get it
This statement is about as wrong as you could get. While cell service is not available in the Fishing Bridge campground, there is service nearby just to the east and at Canyon Village area.
To top that off, anyone saying that West Yellowstone is closer to the attractions is once again wrong. It is outside the park and one must drive back and forth through the animal jams each day.
Yellowstone is huge and requires much patience in driving around.
Keith
Keith is right on all counts! We spent 10 days in Fishing Bridge last August and found Verizon service in several places in the park and not too far from Fishing Bridge. Also, Fishing Bridge is about as centrally located as you can get for touring the entire park. You're going to be driving a lot no matter where you stay but it's certainly much less mileage staying inside the park! Yes, the campground is tight but it's not like you're going to be spending much time there for it to matter!
If you have time I highly recommend that you drive out the Northeast entrance and drive the "Beartooth Highway"! It's a beautiful drive. We left Fishing Bridge about 7am one morning, drove out the NE entrance to the Beartooth Highway, had lunch in Red Lodge, MT and then took back roads down to Cody, WY and entered Yellowstone again via the East entrance. We arrived back at our rig about 7pm. Long day but well worth it! It was faster to go back via Cody than backtracking our drive.
We can't wait to go back to Yellowstone! Awesome park!

RE: Yellowstone, Grand Tetons or Glacier Access

Going to the Sun road will not be open in your time frame. It doesn't completely open until July. With the sequester nonsense, they are planning on an even later opening.
And...you can't tow your TT over Going to the Sun road! There's a limit on vehicles of no longer than 21 feet from bumper to bumper and 8ft from outside mirror to mirror. We drove the Sun Road last August and would highly recommend one of the Red Bus tours! ;)

RE: Florida State Park Road Trip

There are nice walking trails all around the campground at Lake Louisa. When we were there the orange trees around the walking trails had oranges you could pick. A bike ride from the campground to the gate provides a good workout. Fishing and kayaking is good here too. Nice campground.

RE: RV/MH Hall of Fame, Elkhart, IN

The museum is well worth visiting! We really enjoyed our time there and will go back this summer during a visit to the area. There are several campground choices in Middlebury, Elkhart, Shipshewanna and Goshen (and others) all within 20 miles or so of the museum. That area is loaded with things to see and do.
RV Park Reviews for Elkhart, IN
As far as parking at the museum...there is a large parking lot. You probably could not get your RV in the lot closest to the entry but they have an extensive parking that would work if the lot is not full. I suggest you call the museum and ask them! They may have rules or recommendations.

RE: Where Do You Place Your Trash Can Or Bag?

Our trailer has a designated drawer under the sink for the trash can that pulls out on heavy duty rails. It holds a trash can that 13 gallon plastic trash bags fit in with room behind the can to stuff a bunch of the plastic grocery bags that come in handy for a variety of things. Works great. I can also store a couple of flat trays in the space under the drawer and can easily reach them as needed.
