RE: Lube plate for Trailair 5th. wheel pin?

Maybe Alabama has stock in the company that makes WD-40. One would think a grease would work better than WD-40, though. Cheaper to use a lube plate.
Car2900, if you raise your fiver up another 2" or 3" before backing onto the kingpin, the lube plate won't hit the hitchhead.
Traveler, why does your lube plate have to be thinner than a normal one?
The scrapes on the hitchhead are probably caused by dirt or sand that gets on there when you're unhitched. We get them, too, and have always used a lube plate.

RE: Charleston, SC - lucky surprise!

If you want to stay a little outside the city (about 15 mins. away), try Lake Aire RV Park (Passport America) or Oak Plantation RV Park right down the road.
We stopped at Lake Aire for a week in November and didn't leave until March!! Charleston is really a neat city with lots of "old" and you can ride the trolley around town for free. There are several trolleys that are handicapped accessible.

RE: Shingles

No, the shingles shot will NOT prevent you from getting shingles, no more than the flu shot will prevent you from getting the flu but in both cases, the shots lessen the chance of you getting severe cases of either. And, as bad as shingles can be, post hepetic neuralgia is even worse.

RE: MediCare "Donut hole"?

I get my meds from overseas. Don't have to worry about the donut hole. I can buy a 12 months' supply of three meds for what the co-pay for two months of one med would cost here in the states. I do have part D, though, for spur of the moment meds like an antibiotic or prednisone. They do not sell narcotics and other types of "controlled" meds.

RE: Dealer requires suitable truck

The OP's dealer might not have asked about hitch capacity because perhaps they were buying the hitch from the dealer also.

RE: Lube plate for Trailair 5th. wheel pin?

I don't think it really matters what size the lube plate is as long as it covers the kingpin plate completely all the way around.

RE: slide seals ?

Normally, there is no "inside" seal and "outside" seal. They are one and the same. Why not just re-glue the ones you have? It can be expensive replacing them. Find a repair shop and ask what they'd charge compared to what your dealer would charge.

RE: Question about stabilizers

Why do you have to retract your landing gear all the way in the first place??? We never retract ours all the way. Doesn't your fiver have an outer leg that comes down a distance when you push a button and then you lower the inner leg (with the holes in it) to whatever height you want them?

I'd like to know how much weight the rhino-liner stuff added to the roof?

RE: Dropped the fiver

In the Reese hitch, I don't see how the jaws can close properly if high hitched or low hitched.

I wonder if people realize that's what the locking plate is for...to lock the hitch in the closed position?

RE: Dropped the fiver

I never even noticed the cotter pin. Well, like RCMAN46, we use a lock. Never even noticed if the handle has scuff marks on it and I have turned almost 90* turns. Guess I'll have to go look tomorrow.

RE: ASPCA & Hurricane Sandy

We were traveling west (away from Sandy!) on the PA Turnpike and we passed a huge ASPCA tractor trailer on it's way east. I presume it might have been going to NJ and/or NY to help with pets lost in the storm.

RE: Dropped the fiver

Fly4Fun, that's why it's called a safety catch! We even put a lock on ours when hitching up. Like you, that doesn't get unlocked or flipped up until we're on site, chocks between wheels, and trailer is level. THEN we unlock and flip, Bob backs up to release the pressure on the pin, and I pull the handle. Easy peasy. Teamwork.

RE: Dropped the fiver

Cummins, I don't see any real difference between Reese and B&W except where the pivot point is. The Reese jaws wrap around the kingpin just as well.

RE: Dropped the fiver

Probably the same reason they have them for other hitches. A secondary "insurance". Cheaper than a bed saver, though!
