RE: Atlanta near the Airport?

Gee didn't mean to start a is Walmart safe thread. I believe I asked about RV parks. Dry camping won't be an option as DW will be in RV all weekend while I work 12+ hours each day.
We have stayed at Stone Mountain several times, but I was hoping for something fairly close, I didn't want to face a long drive after a long day.
I will check out the 2 parks mentioned, Thanks!

RE: elite motorhome

I fulltime in a 1989 Elite Diesel Pusher. As others have said, they were a very high end coach. I have 115,xxx miles on mine and I go done the road without all the squeaks, rattles and pops that my 1990 Bounder had. The cabinet work is very solid and well done, I don't have one loose door or etc. with any of the woodwork.
If your handy no problem going with older home, just be prepare to have to handle a few things here and there. Nice thing about 454 is parts are very accessible and if its a P30 chassis same thing.
If you want to spend the $$ plenty of after market TBI systems that you can bolt onto the 454, But I've never seen a major improvement in Mileage between carb and TBI, although the TBI is easier starting and handles running warm better.

RE: Owners of VuCube 2000 - Questions about performance

Interesting we don't have HD but have the Dish with Dual Tuner setup. DW has never figured out how to move from living room to bedroom. She always gets in there and then yells at me (no sweet thing included) to come fix the @#$@ tv.
I know to turn sat off as I move from one room to the other, I did not know that I could turn sat back on and watch 2 different channels I will have to test that, as it will make DW really happy, although I will have to get it on the channel she wants for her LOL

RE: Owners of VuCube 2000 - Questions about performance

Been raining cats and dogs all month here in MO only had one time that I could Sat was out for a few minutes, and that was when I was under a tree and I think the leaves in the tree filled up with water, but again only about 15min total time without signal.
As others have said the 2000 finds the satellites when you first turn it on and search, it then remembers their locations and switch back and forth as needed, takes about 2 seconds. The only time I notice it is when the DW gets ahold of the remote (something I try to prevent!!) she has a habit of going up and down through the channels one at a time, and of course that drives the sat nuts as it switches back and forth. You have to use the program guide to flip through the channels and see whats on then select the channel you want so you only have one delay.
What concerns me with your Original post is the mention of HD, I don't believe any of the small dish satellites support HD, I think you have to go with something like the Traveler or a manual 18" dish in order to do HD.
BTW, the Vuecube only supports 2 satellite locations. So if the HD service requires 3 sats that is an issue

RE: Barnes & Nobles "Nook" E-reader now available..........

I thought so when I bought my Kindle, but I have since bought books several times while no where near a PC (sort of Amazon's plan LOL). Not to mention the automatic subscriptions that I have setup. I agree it would not be a deal breaker one way or another, but it is definitely nice to have a self contain piece of hardware that isn't dependent on my PC.
I saw the question about books shelves and thought the same thing, thought about posting photo of my Kindle. Right now I have about 30 books on it.

RE: Barnes & Nobles "Nook" E-reader now available..........

Just FYI, I have read several Baer Scifi books on my Kindle. The only other thing I think may or may not be an issue depending on how you travel and us it, is Wifi versus Whisper Net (kindle). If you usually have wifi no big deal. Sharing books is a neat idea although not something I need.

RE: Retro fit Pressurized Fresh Water fill

The problem isn't holding the hose in, it stays in by itself, the problem is getting the door open, the cap off and the hose in. Between the ladder keeping the door from opening about half way and the height its a PITA.
I wonder what the autoshut off hardware is comprised of?

Retro fit Pressurized Fresh Water fill

The question from someone having problems with the fresh water filling when hooked to city water got me wondering. The gravity feed on my coach has to be in the most inconvenient place possible (half way up the coach , under the ladder so the door only half opens, 8 feet in the air!).
How hard would it be to retro fit a way to use the city water hookup to fill the tank. For coaches that come with such a value, what prevents overfilling the tank, how do you know when it is filled?

About to do some work on the Bathroom floor - A question

I am planning on repairing my bathroom floor this weekend. I don't know if it is rotted or if a brace has sagged, but there is a straight line half way under the commode where the floor sinks about an inch, and the commode is real lose.
I am sure I will have to drop the black tank to get access to the floor from below, my question is how is attachment from the commode to the tank done? I see the bolts to remove the commode, when I remove it will I see something to remove the pipe or whatever runs to the tank or ? I don't think anything is accessible from underneath.

RE: Rest Stops -South Dakota and Iowa

I stayed overnight at the rest stop between Sioux Falls and Sioux City on I29, this week. Got on the road late after Cat fixed my fuel issue. Pulled in around 8pm, left around 8am. Signs said no camping, I assumed that was meant more to keep folks from tenting. I think the point of a rest area is a place to rest, so you don't fall a sleep at the wheel. That rest area has State Patrol headquarters.
No one complained to us. BTW, they also have dump station and fresh water!

RE: Cat C-7 rear radiator fan hub bearing failure

Thanks for the correction on filter terminology, you are correct the one bypassed is the primary/water separator, with glass cover. The other filter (looks like big oil filter) is still in line.

RE: Cat C-7 rear radiator fan hub bearing failure

On my 3208T I have side radiator that is hydraulically driven, since I've had the coach (about 7K miles now) there is a odd sound that comes from that side, can't really describe it but it has a steady rhythm with a few seconds between each sound.
Could this be the bearing your describing? And is just trying to move the fan blade going to let me know if it is bad?
BTW, on subject of towing. We pulled out of Sioux Falls Monday and a few miles down the road it just quit like key was shut off. I determined it wasn't getting fuel by draining the water separator and it never filled back up, but wasn't able to get any further than that. Had it towed to Butler Cat, after a couple of hours determined it was a cracked fitting on the water separator base, they didn't have the part, so by passed to get me down the road (still have primary filter) until I can get the part and replace. Long story/short almost $1000 for what turned out to be a simple fitting, more than half of it was towing, and that was just a few miles.

Compartment Cam Locks Longer than 1 1/8

Anyone have a source for cam locks longer than 1 1/8 (cylinder length). My locks have a cylinder style key that doesn't work well, Slips and eventually wears out, have replace key a few times. But the locks cylinders are 2 1/2 inches long seems 1 1/8 is longest most make.

RE: Our next big trip West

We did some of this trip (backwards - we are in Salt Lake City now) last month. We dropped down from Denver, and with to Colorado Springs (Garden of the Gods is a must see). Then we did Canyon City (skyline drive would be great on Motorcycle as would taking one of the paved roads that is part of the Gold Belt byway up to Cripple Creek) and then Mesa Verde. We were working our way to Las Vegas and now we have came north from there to get to Salt Lake. We didn't get a chance to stop in parks in So. Utah so I can't comment on them but you've gotten plenty of feedback for those.

RE: Coleman A/C Air Noise

One of our Intertherm units finally died in our elite and we had to replace with Coleman. The noise difference is incredible. I spoke to a salesman that said he was a Intertherm dealer back when they made RV units and none of the units on the market now are as quiet.
So can't suggest any solution, but at least moral support. We use to be able to watch Tv with unit on high. Now have to turn TV way up to hear it.
My concern with your solution is that you will likely experience freezeup issues. That A/C is very susceptible to freezing up with any airflow problems.

RE: What Are You Replacing Your 751 Locks With?

My coach has circular locks on them and I absolutely hate them. It may just be the manufactor but the key doesn't really seem to fit them right and slips quite often. Sometimes I have to turn it 2 or 3 times to lock or unlock. I like the visual indication that a regular key gives you.
I have considered replacing mine with a nonkeyed version, because at this point the only person they seem to keep out is me.
