RE: To anyone that has replaced TV with a LCD

I actually like it a little higher...I replaced the old Sony with a 32 inch LCD. We do not fulltime and wanted to use the TV when we were at home as a computer monitor.I used a mount from a place called -- TV for my RV. It has a bracket with a slide mechanism that fits the back of the TV and easily slides out so we can move it inside when home in the stick house. I love the new LCD.

RE: Yet one more Direct TV / Dish question

We use DirecTV and are very happy. Have had them for years. Swap back and forth all the time and have good service and reception - You said you have them and have had no problems and like them....Good Grief - why ask for trouble??......My philosophy is --- Don't kick a sleeping dog. I saw where the DW thought about switching....Well I have two thoughts there...One - Why? Two -- If Dish proves a hassle - who is going to be trying to get it worked out? - my bet is it will be you. If she wants to change so bad make her a deal.....OK change - but let her be the one to do it and also the one that has the Dish (no pun intended) job from now on....bet she changes her mind and DTV starts looking pretty good. Why mess with something that is working?

RE: HELP - Im stranded!

That is a very nice looking coach you have there.....Things happen - just keep the faith...A Mountain Aire will treat you right over the long haul. We always wanted one but never got the numbers right...they are great coaches. Nice.

RE: Annual Maintenance Cost

Wife and I currently have a fifth wheel but are considering taking the plunge to a pusher. My question is what is a realistic dollar amount we should be considering when it comes to annual maintenance? We would be looking at a Monaco or similar quality unit in the nighborhood of 38 - 40 footer, not sure if I would need a tag axle or not but lets add that in to the equation to be safe. Use about 12,000 miles a year which, currently I believe would be high as we aren't full timers yet. What are the annual expenses "you" would consider to keep the rig in top shape? At 12,000 miles a year, you are correct in looking at a DP. Next, in simple terms considering you are buying a used unit I believe you can figure about $1000 a year keeping it in good shape. Things you don't expect will crop up....For instance, tires every 6 years or so, and air conditioner will need replacing or work etc. Also for example I just replaced the old style TV with a new flat screen. I did it myself, but it still costs money. Also, I have owned both and there is not much difference between a gasser maintenance and a DP maintenance....a little maybe or maybe not any difference at all , but in the scheme of RVing - not very much....At 12,000 miles a year the DP will probably be the cheaper to do maintenance on.

RE: Thinking of selling my coach...Am I stupid?

Ok, here's the deal. The wife and I are thinking of pulling the plug next year and going full time. I have been offered a killer deal on a 05 Dynasty Platinum IV. Now here's the rub. My current coach is a 96 Dynasty w/109000 miles on it. It is paid for and I will have to finance the new coach. thanks for your help...Dennis You and your wife are the only ones that can really answer this question...But my opinion is that the new coach is a depreciating asset. Depreciating....you will lose a lot of money owning it. Unless you are very very well set in the asset area, I would keep the older coach and try this fulltiming thing for a while with the paid for unit you have and see what happens. There will always be "killer deals" out there.....Phil.

RE: Home Theatre Systems for Dummies -- Help

spending a lot on sound for the RV is not in the cards..I think I will also add a BluRay player to replace the DVD player we take along if this makes a difference. inexpensive and easy out there don't want to make a dumb mistake..You've spent on a nice flat panel TV, thinking of adding a BluRay player, but you're scrimping on sound? I would advise you not to do that. Shop around and get something that you'll enjoy listening to that isn't the cheapest junk out there. That would be a dumb mistake. Be sure you get a subwoofer. Makes ALL the difference. That's sort of what I was asking.....I guess. I have seen them that cost much more than the TV cost. I don't think you can get a real idea of what they add by looking at them in a store and then installing in a RV and even then just for part time use. I just don't know if the physical size and shape of a motorhome living area makes it worth even buying one for a RV. I was hoping for some example of something that would work well and not cost more than the TV. There are just so many that it is confusing and I don't have the time or inclination to spend weeks educating myself on what to buy. Thanks. Phil.

RE: My family wants to see snow.

If you needed to stay closer, I would go to Santa Fe. There will be snow around the area. If you can make it a little farther - but not much farther - go to Colorado....maybe Breckenridge area.

RE: 2003 Newmar Montainaire ??

I like the Newmar Mountain Aire coach a lot...but I would be very cautious of the CCC on this unit and would probably be concerned about buying a W22 chassis. I believe this vintage of W22 also has the brake issue related to the Workhorse chassis. I believe they were supposed to have a fix in October -- then January and now maybe spring of 2010....now who really knows. To my knowledge, they have not even really decided for sure and announced exactly what the brake fix and recall actually is and the cost. Personally, I believe he could find a better Newmar. I would stick with Newmar but probably pass on this at least until all this brake stuff is resolved.

Home Theatre Systems for Dummies -- Help

I am changing the front Sony 26" CRT TV to a 32" LCD 1080P flat screen. I would like to get better sound than the TV by itself will have. I think just a couple of added speakers might work because of the limited RV space....but I am not sure. Maybe I should go ahead and get an inexpensive theater system. I would like wireless because of the hassle with running wire in a motorhome. I don't want to spend a lot either. If it was my stick home system - that's one thing....but spending a lot on sound for the RV is not in the cards. I saw a three speaker system at Sams that sounded pretty good....BTW - I think I will also add a BluRay player to replace the DVD player we take along if this makes a difference. Is there something inexpensive and easy out there that I should look at and where would be a good place to buy it? Thank you for the help. I really don't know about this new technology and don't want to make a dumb mistake..Some looked like they had a receiver with them and some were just speakers. Any advice and help is appreciated.

RE: Roadmaster vs Blue Ox tow bars

I have the Roadmaster Sterling...Don't know about now - but at the time the Sterling was rated to tow more weight...I think 6000 vs. 5000. I like the extra crossbar for extra support. At the time I bought mine, I also liked the neatness of how Roadmaster routed the wiring with a slot in the bar. Blue Ox was not as neat at the time. They are both good bars - find a good deal on either and buy it. I also think both would be fine and you would be happy with either one.

RE: Oil Filter for Vortec engine

When I had a W22 gas motorhome, I went to the Chevy dealer or an auto parts place and got the PF454. Never had a problem. I believe GM knows the best thing to use in their engine. I also used Mobil 1 and changed oil at about 3,000 to 4,000 miles.

RE: Thanksgiving in Branson

We have never seen bad weather in the Thanksgiving time frame. I think you will be OK. We really enjoyed the play ---- Noah The Musical. Also recommend a day trip to Eureka Springs if you have time.

RE: Country Coach

Allure or Intrigue -- maybe -- but 140 grand for a used Inspire --- Nope. and I like the CC product. I wouldn't do it myself.

RE: Am I reading this right (tow capacity)?

NCC = 3680 Unless you ask for it, I won't go into all the NCC and CCC stuff....But since you describe yourself as a newbie -- make sure that you look at CCC closely and not necessarily the NCC...A large NCC can be very misleading.

RE: Our first weekend with "Lucy"....

Filled the fresh water tanks and it appears there's a leak somewhere so we had no water when we got up there. she'll be getting winterized this week and stored alongside the house!!! Just can't believe we own her and that next year we'll be out in her every chance we get!!! Lacy I am very happy for you and know you will be happy with the coach. This WATER LEAK is something I would find out about before storage and winterization. If the leak is the fresh water drain pipe that's one thing.....if it got water somewhere you don't want it - best to find out now and dry out. These things hold a lot of fresh water and if you really filled it --- a LOT of water went somewhere... Also regarding the TV converter box...Take the box and interchange it with the VCR hookups and set BOTH the TV channel ( 3 OR 4) and and rv selector box for the VCR and that will tell you if it is something electronic or the hookup. RE: Have U driven your class A through 20 degree weather?

Yes we have with no problems.... Some units are not built for it but I suspect your Tourmaster is. Make sure the bays are heated. Fill the fresh water tank. Make sure that you have plenty of LP. Run the furnaces. We also use the remote temperature thermometers.

RE: First long time trip

It is Saturday morning and we are heading out on at least a four month trip. On our way to Texas and then to Arizona for December, January & February. We are very excited but a little fearful. Sure do hope that the house sells while we are away. You will be hooked now....Leaving the freezing cold weather for nice warm sunny weather is a real experience. Good luck on selling the house. If it is priced right for the area and the condition of the house and the market conditions ... it will sell.

RE: Question for Class A owners with slides

All of you folks who own coaches with slides, especially quad slides. When underway would you rather have slides or no slides...or does it not make any difference? Also, what are your reasons? We looked for a coach with two slides. We wanted the living room slide on the driver's side so it would not interfere with the patio area and the awning over the patio area. Also I keep a lot of stuff in the basement on the passenger side and hated the thought of getting on my knees and crawling around every time I went under there for something. I would have taken a coach with a third slide but it would have to be in the bedroom. Also, even when parked for the night we do not have to extend a slide to use the coach....this was important to us. Many of the two front slide models we looked at did not increase the actual area that much over a single front slide because they went to two smaller depth front slides instead of one larger depth slide. We also did not want all the kitchen plumbing and water lines and gas line and electrical for the kitchen moving back and forth. I would not own a coach without slides.

RE: Gas Class A advice

She really like a Newmar model that had the kitchen in the drivers side slide. The counters were much deeper and appeared to have more space. We looked at Damon's when we were in Mass. this summer. I would stay with the Newmar. We are on our second one. They do a lot of stuff behind the counters and such in the actual construction design that makes a real difference. I would also try my best to buy it on a Ford chassis if available.

RE: Workhorse Brake Failure Update

I read somewhere that the criteria for putting the "riding the brake" code in the memory of the computer was that you had to have your foot on the brake for --- TWO MINUTES...Think about that ...Just take some time and time that out and see if you would remember it happening. If that is correct and the code is there I believe you would remember when it happened....two minutes is a VERY long time to hold your foot on the brake. I can't believe it would happen without some odd reason. There may be a glitch in their software logging the codes or the brakes are hanging for some reason.
