RE: Can anyone answer this question?

About 8 or 9 years ago we went from FL to MI. Insurance on our vehicles almost doubled. That was an ouch. With things as they are now we are moving our domicile back to FL and cannot wait for the lower insurance costs. Yes first time registering in any state is a little expensive but its the lower yearly cost after that we are looking forward to.

RE: Anyone installed a product called "Cheapheat" ?

We put in an electric fireplace instead for way cheaper. We have the room to do and it looks nice. I can also have just the "fire" on anytime we want the ambiance summer or winter with or without the heat part.

RE: RVing with small children?

One app to have is "My DAT Trucker Services" it will show you almost all truck stops, all rest areas and walmarts if you need anything. One suggestion I have from traveling with kids from newborn to now grown is when younger taking off when it's close to their bedtime. Most will then sleep while you drive almost all the way and it ends up being more peaceful.

RE: Retire?

We are not retired and we have a class a. It is not an 'expensive toy' it is our home. We are full-timers. Where we are at there are alot of full-timing workampers of some sort. Some work welding jobs, some electrical, some construction. They go where the next job is and don't worry about moving from apartment to apartment, they just take their house with them. Easy to go from job to job when the job is "3 to 9 months" no worries about leaving an apartment contract early or keep extending, no worries about boxing up everything to move to the next one in a few months.

RE: How young is too young?

Oh years ago we were having the house tented for termites. We decided that it would be a good time to take the weekend and to go camping with our 2 teenagers. We let our friends know that had just had a baby and had to other small kids what we were doing for the weekend to let them know that we would not be around. Well they drove with us and came tent camping with us from FL up to the mountains. I think the baby was maybe a month old. He slept most of the time and was fine. As a matter of fact everyone had a great time.

RE: Do you need a printed Calendar?

We have a board that is part dry eraser and part corkboard. I can hang up flyers to things there. I can then write on the other part different dates like when said flyer dates are and when things like storage and insurance are due. No other calendar around here except on the computer if I need to know what day it is.

RE: House under contract...

We had to put stuff in storage because of how fast things moved last year. Now we are planning on the time to go back to have some sales to sell, keep what we wanted to keep and to have the oldest son come up to get not only the stuff we are giving him but also the 20 large bins of christmas village******that we were holding for my mother, she's not sure what she wants to do with it all she knows is she does not want to sell or give it away "it took me a long time to buy it all" There's not much we are attached to in storage but there are some things we had wanted to bring with us and just did not have the time to get it out last year.

RE: Internet services, not satellite or 3G

The OP understands about the availibility of connections. It's the wife that keeps saying there are other things so I figured if I gave lots of sites where they talk about basically that's all there is that maybe she might finally come round to the fact of it's cell/wi-fi/mi-fi or satellite.

RE: banks will not finance over 10yrs!!!

If you want to know the value of an RV that you are looking at go to www.NADA.com . There you should be able to find the one you are looking for and what the low, med and high value it is. Do not add any extras cause things the dealers are trying to say are extras mostly came with the RV anyway. I know my credit union did not want to go to much over medium NADA and the fact we got it under the low they were very happy.

RE: Do RV's get Roaches

When we lived in FL and people would come down to visit they would ask me "What's the difference between the 2?" I would just tell them that Palmetto bugs are bigger than roaches. Here's a story for you: One time when I had my leg operated on and I could not really move that much we had some traps set out for the fruit rats/mice (neighbor had an orange tree). Well, I was in the house and heard the one in the bathroom bottom cabinet go off. I called Thom up "Um Thom that trap went off in the bathroom" He said "I can't do anything right now, when Justin gets home from school have him take care of it" I said "OK" Well, Justin gets home and of course being a teenager he was not happy to hear that he would have to take care of the cleanup but he took some gloves and bags to get it out and all of a sudden I hear him laughing. He comes out and says "It was not a rat/mouse. A palmetto bug set it off and it lost it's head when the trap came down on it." Yep I laughed too.

RE: Disposable wipes

My mother-in-law Sandy when she lived in FL in a house with septic could not figure out why she would have to have the tank flushed every so often. And yes she even used that stuff called ridx. Well when Thom was home on leave he realized what the problem was but did NOT tell her. He just let his brother-in-law know to NOT use the toliet to get rid of the condoms. And I have heard the same thing from several septic companies "yea you could put ridx or anything like that in there but it's not gonna do anything but part you from your money, you're gonna have to have the tank flushed every few years anyway depending on how many people you have using the toliets no matter what so don't bother spending your money on that stuff"

RE: banks will not finance over 10yrs!!!

Ours was 17 to 18 yrs old when we bought with a loan thru my credit union. We got preapproved with a rate of 3.9%, that was almost 2 yrs ago. All they cared about was whether the coach was no more than a certain percent above mid NADA value. We actually got ours for about $5k less than low NADA value so they were more than happy to ok the loan. Oh my credit union is in MI and we bought the coach in AZ so we did it all over fax, email and phone.

RE: Happy with Straight Talk… so far.

Just do not tether your phone to anything. They will shut that down and maybe shut the phone off completely. Someone else on here is having problems with that.

RE: Another reason to RV and not hotel

The water tanks are on the roof of the hotel. How she died and got into the tank is still be investigated. How she got into the tank is also being investiaged since it would have been really hard to get up on the roof and opening the top of the tank and going thru the small opening.

RE: Credit Card to use when traveling

You asked about avg campground prices, well I looked back at the month we went from cg to cg almost everynight and the avg per nite was $20.471. That included a welcome center or 2 while driving thru the nite trying to make it to the next person to see and a rest area and truck stop too. Oh there was day we stopped to see some gaming friends and we decided at the last minute to spend the nite parked in their yard, one of the best nites of the trip. The least was $21 in Milton, Florida and the most per nite was $50.40 in Sarasota, Florida. We very rarely made reservations as we had only had a certain amount of time and we had thought we would try to see most of our various family members, we will NOT be in such a hurry again ...... and we will NOT try to see that many family members again at once. We did 7k miles from Lancaster, CA to FL to MI and back to Lancaster, CA.

RE: Electric cost

We don't pay separate for our electric where we are at as montlies right now. The price is an all inclusive $520 a month. Down the road at another RV park they meter the electric. Look around and you may find other parks that offer electric included in the price.
