RE: Selling on eBay

Just yesterday we sold an item out of our EBay store, selling price $949. We always require an adult signature for delivery, and the buyer complained that since he isn't home during the day, he would have to go to UPS to get it. But only with proof of delivery do we have Seller Protection. He finally saw it our way, but you have to cover your rear no matter what. Never give in to complaints about UPS being too expensive, or how much trouble it is to sign for it.

RE: Need to stock inside of trailer

This is how we did it -
Step 1) put everything you think you need in the trailer
Step 2) camp in your driveway, and the next day put more stuff in the trailer
Step 3) go camping near home, and every day make a trip to Walmart for things you didn't realize you needed (who knew you needed a small bathmat until you actually take a shower)

RE: Words That Melt My Brain

How are texting, tweeting, and emailing going to affect the words we use and the way we spell them? We have already seen how street slang has affected the language, "What up?" for example.
I recently read an article about this very thing in the Wall Street Journal -
This Embarrasses You and I*
I remember thinking, that at some point, the language we use today became the "correct" usage. At what point did "thee" and "thou" get replaced by "you"? And did people think that using "you" was the sign of a society going downhill?

RE: Whacha readin' now?

Tried to get this from my library but they don't have it. I'm bummed. Sounds good.
Just finished "The Golden Principles" by Andy Neillie. Mr Neillie is a consultant, among other things, and here he talks about the lessons he learned from his life of rescuing Golden Retrievers. Specifically, he was inspired to write the book when he adopted a dog named Redford who came from a horrible puppy mill and carried quite a bit of doggie baggage.
While it's not life-changing, it's interesting, has some good points and good stories. It's an easy read (literally, I read it in 2 sittings).
I had to order it from Amazon. It was recommended by a friend. They usually have some used ones for cheap.

The lid stays open, so I don't have to have a bowl for the dogs.
Really?

RE: Where you headed for the 4th?

Lake Conroe KOA for 2 nights. Should be able to watch the fireworks over the lake Wednesday night. Then up to Double Lake Recreation Area for 2 days of camping and mountain biking with friends.

RE: Google

Gmail from what I understand actually will scan your email looking for keywords that will help them determone what ads to display. So if you don't want to see ads for porn, done write about it....
Yes it does, the results are sometimes comical. Last week, in an email that had the words "night owl" and "early bird", I had an ad for removing unwanted animals such as owls from my attic.
Ads are the "price" we pay for "free".

RE: Open Containers?

open container. means someone is drinking at the time. Do not have anyone consuming alcohol in the vehicle while driving. very bad choice.
The OP only asked what the law was, not for our judgement, but as a former EMT, I support the above perspective.
Drinking while driving (anything) = bad. Bottle of wine that has been opened, partially consumed, and put back in the cupboard = I would think is no big deal (and not really open).

RE: How does one actually buy a TT?

Buying sight unseen is a comfort-level thing. People buy houses sight unseen too, but I never could. To me, some things just speak to you when you open the door and go inside. A little voice says "This is home", and you'll know it.

RE: mattress pads

Since we have a Tempurpedic at home, we got the generic Tempurpedic 3" topper from Bed Bath and Beyond. Not cheap, but sleep/mattress is not an area I scrimp in. Would not be much of a vacation if I woke up with a backache, and the older I get, the more important the quality of sleep is. It can be trimmed if necessary, and comes with its own casing. Then I put a good quality mattress pad on top of that.

RE: Gulf Coast

I guess I'll be a callous donkey on this one.
The original post didn't ask for a donation, just to keep those affected in your prayers. If that's an imposition on you, don't do it. Sheesh.

RE: Gulf Coast

People (rightly) fear hurricanes, but I've lived on the Gulf Coast all my life, and these tropical storms can be more damaging than a hurricane. Especially a stalled system such as this.

RE: Opinions needed please.

Not familiar with your postal system but doesn't delivery confirmation mean someone should have signed for it?
No, it means the Post Office SAYS they delivered it. You have to purchase Signature Confirmation (additional fee), in order to get the actual recipients signature returned to you on a post card.
I always ship UPS, adult signature required (even if they have one on file with UPS) for large amounts.

RE: Sleep Number Mattress for travel trailer?

I like mine at 40 and when I drive though the higher elevations it expands to a hard like a rock 100 and stays there until I deflate it. If you do drive around through different elevations frequently like I do you will be making adjustments.
Now that's an interesting factoid that I hadn't considered.

RE: Sleep Number Mattress for travel trailer?

I will say it will give you a backache. If you have a mattress at home you can get a good nights sleep on now, try to purchase the same brand and model for the trailer. For us switching from any mattress to another will for a couple of weeks give us backaches until we get use to the other mattress.
This is the best advice - whatever works at home is what you should try to replicate in your RV. We have a full tempurpedic at home, so we put the best 3" tempurpedic topper on the RV mattress. If that had not been enough, I was prepared to put a full tempurpedic one in. I think switching from one mattress to another is what gives a lot of people a backache. Just ask any of us who spent years as a road warrior.
I wouldn't spend the money on a sleep number, unless I knew it worked at home.

RE: RV Rental Insurance

One the reason they do not sell it as a really bad idea to rent from an individual. They have no way of knowing how the safety items are maintained.
This doesn't answer the original question, but I have to agree with this statement.
We only rented trailers, which were automatically covered by our vehicle insurance when hooked up. We definitely discussed it with our agent beforehand. If your agent can't help you, might be time to find another agent.

RE: geocacheing

I do it. Love the ones that are in State Parks. Only problem is that I'm often dressed in shorts/t-shirt and caches are off in the woods.... Need to plan ahead. Use my iPhone most of the time. Just love that small thrill that goes through you when you spot it ......

RE: Selling on eBay

Our stick & brick business has an Ebay store, and we use it a lot. Just make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Recent (last few years) changes have made Ebay all about the buyers and severely reduced seller's rights. For instance, buyers can leave good/neutral/bad feedback for sellers, but sellers can not leave bad feedback for buyers. _Even if they don't pay._
So it's not like a garage sale, where the buyer is gone and out of your life. Make sure you photograph and describe well, state "as-is", be clear on return policy (Ebay also just forced sellers to honor 30-day return policy), pack well, ship UPS and get signatures, etc.
When things are going smoothly, it's great and easy. But one buyer can really give you a headache.
Also, as mentioned, don't forget both Ebay and Paypal fees. They can add up, and reduce small-profit items to nano-profit items.
