RE: When the Snowbirds are Gone

I dunno. Just looks like a big "parking lot". Don't think I'd really like that. Some trees or bushes or something between lots would be nice. Is that the way most Florida CG's look? The pictures are only showing a very small section of this campground and is a section only opened in the past five years or so. Small trees are planted but will take time to mature. In the background is an older section and you can see dense tree foliage. Most Florida campgrounds have lots of trees. Most of this campground is wooded with mature trees but the sites are a bit smaller. We only stayed there a few weeks to visit family and the open area is what we preferred.

When the Snowbirds are Gone

In case you ever wondered what your favorite park looks like when you and the many other snow birds have left you can see here. :) For those who have been here it is the SW corner of Sun N' Fun, Sarasota, FL in May. The fenced area is the storage area. The streets are being re-surfaced. I understand that when school lets out there are crowds here during the summer months. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s14/pvsaint/Photo1_zps3d21dbee.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s14/pvsaint/Photo2_zpsa7d55f3a.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s14/pvsaint/Photo3_zpscba9834a.jpg

RE: Another newbie questions - step carpeting

I ditched the springs and used wire ties to secure them. Always on.

RE: Aux Fuel tank for Ford F250

Attatank at Attatank.com has tanks and fuel transfer systems that are very good and less costly than Transfer Flow. I use the Attatank Freedom Fill system that automatically transfers fuel from the auxiliary tank to the main tank and has a gauge for the aux. mounted in the cab.

RE: Flying Colors

Just got back from a weeks worth of camping at three different campgrounds. One of the things I do during set up is to raise my flag on the rear ladder of my fifth wheel. Been doing that since I bought the camper. What I have come to notice is, I was the only person who did this. I'm hoping the patriotic spirit has nor completely disappeared in our great American past time! If you want to fly the flag then go ahead and fly it. If I decide not to, and most people in the campgrounds do not fly it, it doesn't make you more patriotic

RE: Protecting the screen door from dogs

Amazon and Camping World are just two places where you can buy grills that protect the screen and still allow air to flow. Google "rv screen door grill" and take your choice.

RE: Redwood 5th Wheel

So what does every OTHER manufacturer do that has an ice maker in the slide? I have no idea but you must. According to the manual I received with my coach the line is heated and as long as there is 12 volts being supplied to the coach the line will not freeze.

RE: Basement Cargo slide tray

A little loss of storage but a huge amount of convenience. I had one on my previous trailer and have one on the new trailer. Would never be without it.

RE: life style fifth wheel

I agree with mwebber78. The discussion is the lifestyle rv, and that it is a beautiful trailer with in house frame. Then all of a sudden we have a discussion of which frame is the best. We need to stay on subject. This happens a lot. Sorry Kenny. You don't get to say what gets posted or not. A free exchange of ideas makes this forum better.

RE: life style fifth wheel

No, it's a double stacked boxed frame fabricated on location, just like Carriage did.... No other frame compares, IMHO. Have you compared it to New Horizons or DRV frames? The Lifestyle site says a 12" double stacked frame. Is that better than a 15" triple stacked frame? Or a 17" frame like NH? What is the tubing sidewall thickness? Excel uses a 10" box tube frame but with 1/4" sidewalls on the tubing. Others only use 11 gauge thickness. I think there are many frames that compare or exceed the Lifestyle frame. There is always someone somewhere that has to take a post one step higher. No wonder people post once here and never come back. Just to clariify for you, I was stating that "construction style" is the strongest frame in the RV business, not specifically just the Lifestyles banded frame. Go take a breathe. Your comment was that "no other frame compares". You used an absolute. Now you know you were wrong or ignorant of the other mfgs. I don't care if you have your feelings hurt but don't pass on bogus information. People need to weigh all the options when buying a fiver and by you saying what you did does them a disservice.

DRV will install them if you supply them prior to manufacturing.

RE: Installing airbags and I have a pullrite superglide

I installed the Firestone air bags on my new 2013 Ford F450 last week. The passenger side uses a 3/4" bolt and I had to remove the hitch frame bracket from that side to install the bags. The frame is indented a bit at that spot so the hitch bracket fit back over the bolt for a clean install.

RE: Water Heater

I installed a Precision Temp water heater about a year ago and it works fine. Only runs on propane but the propane usage is very reasonable.

RE: Full-Time Living in a 5th wheel TH, advice welcome

Some of our needs/serious 'wants' we would like to have, after a lot of research: 2-3 A/C units (1 garage, 1 living area, 1 bedroom) Onan 5,500 generator Some form of 'extreme weather package'/'4 season construction' 7000# axles or better 100 gallon fresh water tank, minimum 82 gallon grey & black tanks, min. 100 amp (no less than 80 amp) converter Tankless water heater, even if it's an add-on Night stands on side of bed (Queen is fine) Washer/Dryer prep in garage area, with room for two small units, either stackable or separate-need at least 73" of height clearance to stack). Residential plumbing fixtures in kitchen/bathroom (again with the 'long term quality' factor) 1-piece shower/tub, residential size. My DH is tall. We've been fulltiming for two years now and have a KZ Escalade Sportster with most of what you are looking for. I installed an 80 amp converter when the original developed problems. If you aren't traveling with it then you don't really need heavy axles but a hauler in the 40 foot range will almost certainly have 3 7000 lb. axles. I had the optional disc brakes installed when I ordered the unit. We went with a king size bed with no night stands instead of the queen and don't miss them. The washer/dryer stacked in the garage in their own small closet has worked out very well. We added the Quadra Bigfoot auto leveling jacks but if you're not traveling much it wouldn't be worth it. We have two AC units (bedroom and living area) and the garage is pre wired for one but we have not had the need for it. I installed a Precision Temp tankless water heater last year and it has worked out very well. Double pane insulated windows have helped keep us comfortable and keeps the outside noises to a minimum. We like the central vac a lot. A bunk area over the garage, accessed from the living area, is great for extra storage. The Onan 5500W genny doesn't get used a lot but it has been great when needed. I opted for a propane fueled genny and don't regret it at all. We would have a microwave/conventional oven on our next unit and not have the oven that comes with most units. We will have a residential refrigerator in our next unit. The Winegard Travl'r automatic satellite dish is very nice to have. An add on screen room gives lots of extra space. Window awnings are great for keeping the hot sun from roasting us. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s14/pvsaint/2012-04-10131417.jpg

Precision Temp makes a tankless water heater that can be fitted into a six gallon tank opening. Click here for their site:

RE: Are you sorry you do not have a 12cu ft refrig.

We full time and live the same as in our former home. We do things like buy a turkey and make soup and freeze the meat for sandwiches and meals. We usually have 3 or 4 different types of soup in single meal containers frozen and waiting. Frozen veggies are there when fresh aren't available. A couple cuts of meat frozen and waiting. A pint or two of ice cream. Ice trays. Our 12 cu. ft. Norcold is always full and our new camper is on the lot with a 23 cu. ft. residential refrigerator.

RE: Hensley Trailersaver TS3 w/BLUE OX?

Has anyone ever installed a BLUE OX bed rail protection system on a Hensley Trailersaver TS3 hitch? The Trailersaver hitch is “failsafe” from high hitching IF one follows directions, visually checks for closed jaw, and completes a proper pull test, so is the BLUE OX unit necessary? Thanks. Lakeside It's not necessary but I went ahead and installed it anyhow. For a couple hundred dollars it's insurance that's always there. If everyone performed all the proper tests all the time the bedsaver would never have been invented. It's for the one time you screw up. JEBar: Yeah they do make one for the TS3. The part number is BXR5000

RE: Campgrounds near Battleship Cove, Fall River MA

Horseneck Beach will be full on Memorial Day weekend. Reservations are made well in advance. Westport Campground on Old County Rd. close to route 88. Phone 508-636-2555 Three campgrounds on Aquidneck Island near Newport, RI. Meadowlark, Paradise and Melville. Melville is the largest and is in Portsmouth. Meadowlark and Paradise are in Middletown. No pets allowed at Paradise. My pick would be the electric only hookups at the back of Meadowlark. Dump station on the way out. Close enough to Fall River and very close to Newport which has more to do and see than Fall River. Things to do in Fall River. Battleship Cove, Marine Museum, Lizzie Borden stuff.
