RE: All this talk about CA drivers licenses......

.. I believe California has a rather unique double tow law that prohibits it UNLESS the 1st trailer is a 5th wheel attachment & second trailer is carrying a BOAT. Whole combo has to remain within length limits though. Not required to be a boat. A friend tows double, 5th wheel with a bumper pull loaded with a rock buggy behind it.

RE: Bouse, Az.

Same way I go to Brenda, I like it.If all you are interested in is getting from Point A to Point B, if it were me, I'd take SR-99 south to Bakersfield where I'd pick up SR-58 east to Barstow and then I-40 east to SR-95 (Exit 9 in Arizona). Go south on SR-95 through Parker and then take SR-72 east to Bouse.

RE: Ford Auxiliary Switches

I read a post on another board where someone used one for his aux fuel tank pump to fill the main tank. You could also use them for high power side lights and rear lights for finding forest campsites at night.

RE: Unusual Things People Camp With

X2, except my rig is an FToy, and I use a CO2 bottle instead of a compressor. The welder actually lives full time in the ToyHauler since I have a Miller 175 at home :D :DWe use our Toy Hauler for offroading events so we typically travel with a full size Jeep, 40 gallon air compressor and air tools, Mig welder, full assortment of hand tools, spare drive train parts for the Jeep, spare fluids for engine, tranny, t-case and axles, spare tires and a whole bunch of other stuff. We also carry a fold up white plastic picnic table which has become a staple for our group. I also carry a 5 ton floor jack, jack stands, a couple percussive maintenance devices (BFH) and plenty other odds and ends. I've got the carrying capacity and having an air compressor has some in very handle changing trailer tires on the side of the freeway. It's not uncommon for our awning to become a work shop area.

RE: Trailer leveling

With my 5th in the desert, I find a level spot side to side, then use the jacks and the stabilizers to level front to back. You don't need to get the tires off the ground for leveling.

RE: Help! There are no good RV repair shops in Fresno

Call Western RV in Lemoore 559-924-5374. I have 5vr and have had nothing but great service from Lee (owner). Maybe he can help you. That's who I would call. I wouldn't go to RV Outlet, unless you have all year to wait for it not to get fixed.

RE: Driving trough California?

It's Air Base Road in Adelanto. They finally put a stop light there in the last year or so.We drove I-5 all the way to BC this summer and was not looking forward to it as of all the bad road reports I heard but I've been on worse Interstates and didn't find it all that bad. Get off at Lost Hills thru Bakersfeild to 58 to Kramer Jct.(Four corners) S.on 395 to Avation Blvd or Airport Blvd(something like that)T/L to end(18)T/R thru Victorville&Apple Valley and just keep going 18 turns into 247 at the stop sign in Lucerne Valley and just keep on it right into Yucca Valley.Don't have to go into Barstow.Do it all the time andthis is the most direct&best way.Have a safe drive....Weather is perfect here today, best time of the yr. weather wise in the desert...

Feel free to add your winterization tips, too!

2) Fill fresh water tanks.
3) Stock up on all canned goods and beer.

5) Check air pressure in tires.
6) Make Campground reservations...San Diego looks good.

RE: air bags

I have the Eclipse (same manufacturer of your Stellar) that's about 40 feet. I'm within all my weights except for GCVWR, had to get air bags. I got them to level the truck to keep everyone from flashing me with their high beams due to rear end squat.

RE: max weight loaded

Depends on where you're going. If I'm going to the desert, I'm going full. That means 165 gallons of water, 36 gallons of fuel, buggy, quad, fire wood and beer. Full load for me is 27,700 lbs down the road :D :D Too difficult to find a water fill point most of the time. You do realize that if you don't fill the fresh tanks with water untill you arrive where you are camping you have almost 1700lbs of cargo space?
Not many fill their tanks and lug around water from home. It's 8lbs per gallon and adds up real fast.

I drive the rig in my signature, only because they don't make the MegaCab in a longbed. I love my Ford, I wish they would wrap it around a Cummins :D :D

RE: Lessons learned on my AL to CA trip...

I did a search based on your post. 1 resort in CA, 4 in TX and 25 in Florida. I don't see myself saving much :D . However, military campsites are expanding on the bases :D :D

RE: Weekend mishap...

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. Seriously, the same commands I taught my wife. I've competed in competition rock crawling (4X4's, big rocks, stupid drivers, Spike TV on Sundays) and the commands my spotter and I used were driver"s, passenger"s, stop, back, or "getter dun". Worked for us, works for my wife and I.
Hey. It happens. Any campground that has been in business a while knows it can happen. And probably has before.
Get yourself a couple of FRS radios. Spotter uses one and stands at the rear of the trailer and communicates with the driver to help direct the driver in. My wife has 3 commands. More to Drivers side, or just "driver". More to passenger side or "passenger". "STOP!!!". Don't use "right" or "left". Driver does not know if it is your left, or his left. Some use two cell phones. But we prefer radios. More reliable.

RE: What's the Norm - Barking Dogs / Rude Campers

I know your frustration. If I'm backing in and think it's going to be difficult, I crack a beer and drink it. Then they don't know if it was 1 or 20, gives them something else to talk about :D :DBeing a new camper ( you said that ), let me list some
Do all these things and 199 more, then come on here and talk about it...
Not sure I follow your point you are attempting to make.
I just wanted to get a perspective on this subject.. didn't mean to turn this into a hot thread.
It's apparent regardless of where I go I'm going to encounter these things. Seems there are some CGs that are good and others where it's more widespread problem.
I guess if I think it's a problem then I guess I'll just report it to the right party if some "rule" is being broke... however, I guess I'll just need to learn not be be miserable when stuff like this happens.
Actually, it does not make me miserable but it just flat out frustrates me....

RE: gap between truck bed and 5th wheel

So I went and measured it. On the low side (street is angled) 7.5 inches from bedrail to trailer.

RE: gap between truck bed and 5th wheel

No we aren't :D. My stock Attitude and F350 gives me double fisted plus 3 more inches. I guess I should measure it, but I've never had a problem. It looks close from a distance, but up close it's not.Probably 9 inches, not an issue on or off road.I currently have about 6 inches of space but would like 8" What part of CenCal you moving too? Couple of us are located in Visalia and surrounding communitees?
