RE: Ford 6.0 Superduty

My 07 6.0 F350 has been flawless and is a strong running machine. No leaks or warranty issues. I have had the coolant and transmission flushes. It has had a Diablo Predator 60 hp tune all it's life unless I am towing and fall back to the 40 hp towing tune. Could not ask for a better truck or engine. I realize the engine may not have as good a reputation as some models, but the body will still be there in the end. It is amazing that all over the country I ask other 6.0 owner's about their engines and have never found anyone that had issues with theirs. The 6.0 is either good or bad! Did I mention that my F350 rides more like a car than a big truck!

RE: is buying the diesel a mistake?

I love my diesel, but if I had it to go over, I would have a gasser. Little did I know that diesel prices were going over .50 cents more than gas. Your oil changes are about double of that of a gasser, not to mention all the fuel filters, which are expensive. The egr valves are troublesome if you don't keep your foot into them and they don't like short trips or sitting. The modern turbo's are really complicated and have been an issue with sticking vanes. I am sure they don't compare to a farm equipment turbo and know they are not as complicated. Unless you are hauling extreme heavy loads or run in the mountains, owning a complicated diesel rig just don't make good common sense to me.

RE: Campground southern florida

I would like for you to look up Raintree RV Resort on their website in North Fort Myers. I came there in 08 after I retired and cannot find any reason to go anywhere else. The people are so friendly and have become my second family. We truly enjoy this park and it is further enough south we have nice weather. It has so much to offer and plenty of activities and events that can keep you as busy as you would like. I found this resort off the internet and so glad we did. Just a suggestion that you can add to your list.

RE: Disk brakes recall???

These ceramic brake pads would probably last 100K miles if we kept the slide pins clean and lubricated so the pads would move freely. When the rubber starts binding on the slide pin, the pad will not return to it's normal position allowing it to drag on the rotor. This also causes heat buildup. This would also heat up you bearings melting the grease and turning it to a liquid. I remove my tires every summer and lubricate the pins. This will also depend upon how many times a year you use your rv, most are not used that often. Just passing this along from my own experiences.

RE: Chevrolet Avalanche

It's a shame that GM is going to stop making them in near future. Guess it is because of low sales and much more expensive than regular trucks. I think they are a nice but would never purchase one. It would make a super nice tow vehicle for your needs.

RE: America's Best Campground

We have stayed at ABC twice and Compton Ridge Campground about 4 times. I don't really care for ABC since I have found better places. Compton Ridge is one of my favorite places to camp, other than Twin Creek in Gatlinburg. We are all guilty of having our favorite spots and hopefully you will have yours too!

RE: Gasoline fuel tank for 5.5 Onan generator

I purchased our 15 gallon marine gas tank through Eastern Marine on line. It was plastic and purchased the vent & fill kit. Installed it just inside the side door, vented it to the propane compartment & installed the filler opening through the outside wall. I made angle iron frame to hold the tank in place so it could not move. It came with a built-in fuel level sensor, but did not use and can just open door and see how much fuel is in tank.

RE: Mig or tig weld on frame?

If I ever have to install a receiver hitch on my Mobile Suites, I will bolt it on and that way I won't have to use my 40 years of experience as a welder and someday I will be able to spell root pass! LOL!!!

RE: snowbird hopefull

Just come on down to Raintree RV Resort in North Fort Myers, FL for the winter and I will show you how to enjoy being a snowbird, and bet you will not want to come back home. I was in the same situation as you back in 2008 and found this place on the web and been coming back every winter.

RE: Mig or tig weld on frame?

Duh! The frame was originally welded using MIG and that is most of the Lippert issues. No penetration! It is primarily used because they use automated machines for speed with little quality control. I would not use anything but stick welding with 7018 rods, that is if you want peace of mind that it will hold up. TIG would be good for route pass, then finish out with stick rods. TIG has to be extremely clean for it to stick properly, but you just don't have than much build up of weld for strength. That's just my 40 years of experience talking and I could be wrong! That is just what I done when I did mine!

RE: Onboard Generators: Gas vs LP

I had the Onan 5500 gasoline version installed in my Mobile Suites with I ordered it and came with a 12 gallon marine gas tank. I later installed a marine 15 gallon tank in the basement compartment with filler through the outside wall and vented outside. It runs the generator for long time and only use non-ethanol gasoline to prevent gumming up the carburetor. I never wanted propane from the get-go and don't regret going with gasoline model.

RE: Help with toilet!

I had the same issue as you are having with water actually running down through floor to the top of the black water tank. I tried a new rubber gasket, no help and finally found a cracked plastic flange. Went to Lowes and found a new metal ring that fits on top of the flange where you can screw it to the floor through the plastic flange. This will stiffen up the flange so when you pull up on the flange with the nuts on the toilet it will not open up the crack. I did get the wax ring with the funnel extension, replaced toilet and have had no more issues. It is the cheap, fast and the most reliable solution out there. Something about cutting and replacing the 3" piping in such tight quarters didn't appeal to me.

RE: 03 Burb instrument cluster needs repair

There was a recall on these instrument cluster issues. Friend of mine Silverado has his speedometer that will be reading 120 mph while driving 55 mph. I would check with dealer if you have eradict readings to see if they cover it.

RE: Yet Another Dometic Fridge Question...

I am really thankful that replacing my problematic Dometic with a residential Samsung 18 cu ft fridge was a wise decision. No more defrosting, always have cool to spare, and with an hours notice freezer will be -02 degrees and fridge at 38 degrees.

RE: 2012 F 250 Need Air Bags?

Great choice on getting the airbags and while you are at it, get the on-board compressor and you will be a happy camper. You can adjust your ride comfort while driving down the road.

RE: Brake repair decision

I have installed numerous rotors and pads from Autozone, etc. and I personally found them to be superior to the original parts. I have not been able to tell a difference and surely not thinner material. I do all my own work so I know it is done properly and don't think for one minute that a minimum wage tech will be a real professional. All rotors rust where the pads are not running and sounds to me they are just trying to fleece your pocket book.

RE: Ok to Tenn

The Natchez Trace Parkway runs from Mississippi to Nashville and not sure you would be going north or south, but east bound. Nashville has some campgrounds around Opryland Hotel area, like Two Rivers RV Park, KOA, etc, good if you are into country music and close to downtown Nashville. My favorite RV park in Gatlinburg is Twin Creek RV Campground, just out of town. Very good and close to the only large grocery store. Look at their website. I personally don't care for Pigeon Forge, but the campgrounds have a shuttle bus that runs by ever so often.

RE: Onan Microquiet 4000. Fuel issue?

I did same as you and it did not work right. Purchased a new carburetor off EBay for $164 and runs like new once again. The ethanol gas just destroys the carburetors on small engines, even with treatment and you just cannot get them totally clean. I run only non-ethanol gas.

If everything else fails, just remove fridge and turn it upside down for overnight, then upright and will be good to go for long time. It took care of mine.
