RE: Extended Service Plan

In 2011, I purchased a 2005 MS and also a 4 year ESP with it at a cost of $500 a year. I had to use the plan twice within the first year for different hydraulic issues, so I have more than paid for the plan within the first year. The only issues I had were not with the ESP, but caused by inexperienced RV service people that do not follow the ESP rules and end up costing me more than my deductible. If you need to schedule service, make sure your RV service center understands that after the troubleshooting, authorization must precede action for service and/or parts and they should call you with each step. If unwilling to do that, go somewhere else that will. I am using these 4 years on ESP to learn how to do my own service and use the ESP for failed appliances and systems.

RE: air bags strictly for comfort

I have the same problem with my Ford 450 and MS 38RL 5er. I can feel every bump in the road. Everyone I talked to said the bolt on airbags would control level but not comfort, even got worse. I went for another solution which was to put air between my backside and my seat (like a semi air seat). I went to the www.therohostore.com AIRHAWK® Truck Seat Cushion System AHTRUCKPL for $89 with 60 day money back guarantee. I really like it as it absorbs the road bumps very well and fits the standard truck seat just right. The individual air cels allow ventilation so you do not sweat. It comes with a nonskid cover, repair kit and a manual pump. I keep the pumps in the door pockets and can easily make adjustments on the road. I will not be sending mine back for the money back guarantee.

RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

That is exactly what I have planned. Staying at Colter Bay first and then West Yellowstone. I will be driving through Yellowstone when I move my 5ER. Highway 89 to 14 to 20 avoiding Craig Pass. I am still searching for a way to get from West Yellowstone to the east end of Yellowstone and then to Gillette WY. It seems, to avoid any steep passes, from West Yellowstone, I will need to take highway 191 north to I90 and then east down to Gillette WY. Has anyone else pulled a large 5ER West to East through Yellowstone?

RE: Lippert Hydraulic Purge - How To Do It?

The link provided the air purge .pdf document which is great. Thanks! Since I am also trying to remove the contaminated fluid (containing dirt/particles that may be keeping the control pistons opened), I need a "how to" document to completely remove the existing fluid, flush and then refill the system. During the process I will also dismantle and clean the control valves, check o-rings and springs, reassemble and then fill and perform the purge process on the system to remove any air. Any feedback on a process to remove and flush the old fluid? Thanks again!

Lippert Hydraulic Purge - How To Do It?

2005 MS 5er - Symptom: "Off Door" slide drifts out when raising front of 5er. Also, "Rear level" stands raises when moving "bedroom" slide. Lippert says I have dirt in my fluid that is keeping valves cracked open and I need to purge the system. Lippert says they have "How To Document" they can send to a RV Service Center. Does anyone have a copy of a "How To Document" or can describe the step by step process? (I searched the forum with no results) I want to understand the process before I find and book the Service. (Maybe even do it myself)

West Canyon & NP Route - Avoiding steep grades -

Visiting West Canyons & NPs while avoiding steep grades. My current travel plan is coming from Grand Canyon on I40 > 93 to stay in Las Vegas, then on I15 > 9 to base camp at Rockville, Springdale or Zion NP to visit Zion, then (since my RV is too big for the eastern route 9 tunnel) do day trip(s) to visit Bryce Canyon (unless I can find a way to Bryce) and other sites in the area. I will then return to I15 and continue north to visit Salt Lake City. I will then take I15 > 26 >89 to reach Colter Bay for the Grand Teton stay, then 89 > 20 to stay in West Yellowstone for more of Yellowstone NP, and finally take 191 north to I90 to head for Gillette WY for an RV Rally in July. Using the "Mountain Directory West" this route seems to avoid steep mountain pass grades.

RE: Fixing Vinyl foor

Go to Home Depot and ask for a vinyl floor repair kit. It has the adhesive and the seam sealer. I had my entire floor installed by a floor installer and watched him repair a small tear using the kit (in fact I parked my 5er at Home Depot while he went in and got the kit and then performed the repair). Next time, I plan on doing it myself.

RE: Bucking while braking - Help!

Thanks, I will check the sway control. The thing is that I pulled 4500 miles last year and never had the problem. We wintered in it at Jamaica Beach. Now we're on the road again and Buck, Buck, Buck. So it has got to be something that had occurred over the winter. I kept the wheel covered as well. Thanks,

RE: Bucking while braking - Help!

Thanks all. The controller is built into my 2011 Ford 450. I tried the braking with controller set at 3, 5, 7 and 9. I normally leave it at 9 where I can feel the 5er doing it's braking but not dragging the truck. I believe that the bucking occurred prior to having the drums removed and the brakes checked, sanded and pins & contact points slightly greased. I did not have any "rust removed" from the brakes and I have been at a beach RV park (windy & salty) from Dec 1 to Apr 18. I will try braking with trailer alone as well as with truck alone. I will also clean the electrical plug contacts (which sat out all winter). Any other suggestions? Thanks again!

RE: RV Washing Solutions

Go to www.goclean.com and review tips on green and safe cleaning and protecting your RV. Of course always refer to manufacturer and Dicor recommendations for roof care to avoid voiding 10 year warranty.

Bucking while braking - Help!

I have a Ford 450, a 38' 5er, w/ TrailAir pin and T3 Trailer Saver hitch, BUCKS like crazy when applying truck brake hard, especially in a down hill situation I. This just started when we got back on the road after a 4 month winter stop. I had the 5er brakes checked, cleaned and lubed and even tried various brake controller settings. I can stop the bucking by releasing the brakes and reapplying but this can be dangerous in an emergency stop.. Something is out of sync between the truck brakes and the 5er brakes that was not a problem back in Nov. Help!

RE: Caulking woes.

Take the latex gloves you wore during installation of the Dicor sealant and cut off and use one of the glove fingers to place on the end of the caulk tube and use a rubber band to hold in place. I find that I can reuse a tube over and over with no loss of product. Thanks

RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

Thank You everyone for your inputs and recommendations. Our visit to the Tetons will be the first two weeks of June. Currently, we have a 1 week reservation at the Grand Teton Park RV Resort in Moran, WY, but are now looking hard at Coulter Bay for 1 week dry and 1 week wet camping opportunity instead of the RV park at Moran. Really enjoyed all your tips on what to see, where to drive while camped there. Also looking at any issues with getting from the highway to Coulter Bay (safest route). Anyway, Thanks again everyone!!!

RE: Red Max Pro gone. Which Zep product?

I used the ZEP Wet Look Floor Sealer. I pre-cleaned with the Bar Keepers Friend, washed off again, wiped dry and then applied several coats of the ZEP. The results were good overall and I get lots of compliments on my 2005 5er. However, I have three concerns. 1) Will the ZEP sealer eventually bubble up and peal off?, 2) What about UV protection? and 3) What is the ZEP doing to my paint long term?

RE: Extended Warranty?

Bought a 6 year old Mobile Suites and added a 4 year extended warranty with CWCARE. Paid for itself twice over as I had two hydraulic issues within the first year and everything was covered. I'd do it again.
