Is a generator necessary?

We are likely to spend a couple of days without hookups from time to time. Do we need a generator? Will solar panels do just as well? How far do the batteries really take you. I know to skip a/c and we can live without TV & microwave for a couple of days.

Enjoy America vs Passport America

I see lots of PA members, but don't see anything on Enjoy America. Are they too redundant? Advantages to having both? The price is right...

RE: Full Time TT Suggestions

Northwood (Arctic Fox) or Outdoors RV for more affordable 4-season use. Excel (Peterson) for $$$.

Paying for electricity w/ 50 amp

Now that I understand the trade-offs for 30 vs 50 amp service:
When you stay in a campground that offers both, can you choose to just use 30 amp or does the campground require that you pay for 50 amp even though you will agree to use just the 30 amp plug at the site? Or, are the 30 amp sites in a different area than the 50 amp sites so that it is all determined by which site you use? It looks like there is usually a couple of $ difference.

5th wheel lift gate?

What are the advantages or disadvantages? I'm describing the lift gate that has louvres with a section out of the middle that is cut out lower. I've also seen ones that look like webbing. Is one better than the other? Thanks!

30 vs 50 amp electricity

What can you do without trouble with only a 30 amp connection? Run a Splendide washer/dryer? If you have a 15000BTU a/c unit, can you use it at all with a 30 amp connection? Other considerations?

Please keep in mind that Oregon & Washington state parks book far ahead. They are wonderful, but you are getting a late start!

KM home park?

What benefit do you receive from having a resort be your home park? Do you get a certain number of "free" days to offset your maintenance fees? Can you choose which resort? If you buy a resale, do you get to keep whatever the home park has been? Thanks!

RE: Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept It...

Do they even know that they like RVing? With a 1 ton truck, they have lots of options. If they like Cougars, have tham look at Mountaineers. Both are Keystone products. For dry camping and FS campgrounds, I would suggest looking for a nicely maintained, shorter used Arctic Fox. They have good-sized holding tanks and are well built for the $. A used Carriage or Nuwa trailer would also make the top of my list for buying used. For ease of finding somewhere in more natural settings to park, I would suggest they look at overall length of 30' max. Do not go by the labels! The fifth is likely to be easier to handle because of the hitching issue and back troubles.

RE: Nash 25C or Lance 2185 Travel Trailer?

No comparison for us. Nash trailers have been around since 1994(?) and are built sturdy. They make their own heavy duty frames. (No Lippert concerns.) More ground clearance just means that you don't need to sweat speed bumps, gas station driveways, or off-road use. Lance is a good company, but hasn't been building trailers nearly as long as Northwood.

Length of stay limits with c2c?

If you have a home park and pay to add C2C membership, are you limited to how many affiliated campgrounds you may use or how many days a year? I know that they limit for various times of the year, but is there a maximum use? Thanks!

Southern trails & c2c parks?

I see ST online for $199 & frozen dues. Then I see that some have paid almost $1k. We are interested in Deluxe c2c access. Do they charge different amounts at ST depending on whether you want deluxe options as part of your package? Have you found that the trip planning assistance is worthwhile? What do you have to do to quit ST if you decide you don't like it? Any other deluxe c2c parks you would recommend instead, Maybe Arizona or Texas for about a 1K price tag or less?

RE: Emergency road service...is there one you would recommend?

I looked at Coach-net rates. It doesn't say whether that is an annual figure or monthly. Which is it? Thanks!

Please explain points system & C2C

What is the deal with points vs $? Do you need to have separate accounts for all of the affiliations even though you are booking reservations through C2C? How many of you have been turned away because you didn't make reservations 72 hours in advance? The whole point of RVing is to not be tied down...
