RE: Trip reveiw to Gettysburg Pa

So i thought i would do a little trip reveiw of our first outing of the season. April 4th through the 8th.
To start, we have a 2004 Lance 1010 and a 2005 GMC 2500hd.I have added Stable loads and Helwig 2500 pro series helpers. 265's and Bilstein shock all around. We tow a 14' Thule duel wheel trailer with two Harleys in it.
So, here we go. All i can say, is we got 12 mpg!!!!!!!!
Everything was just perfect and all the pre work i did paid off. We had a great trip.
Traveled down via Rt 93 in NH, 91 in Vt and Ma. 90 in Ma and NY. 87 in NY to 84. We decided to go via the Delaware Water Gap which is a great trip. Rt 209 to 33 to 78 in PA. Then 22 to 78 to 81. Almost there. The rest were secondary roads into Gettysburg.
You were in my neck o the woods...I ran a tender out to the shed for the street glide. I put the battery back in the switchback...attempted to air the tires with big compressor, removed and washed the windshield, cleaned it off with spray & rag and rode it around the block (ok - 6 blocks)before putting it back in the shed.
Now if I could find the time to get to the toy hauler to assess winter wear & tear at storage yard...

RE: HOG's Leaving Daytona

You can't say helmets save lives.
Seat belt can't save lives.
Anything can happen luck or not.
Everyone will agree to disagree on this
Exactly!

RE: HOG's Leaving Daytona

This could escalate into a heated opinionated thread that would be better suited on one of the many MC forums.
Whether ATGATT or not...Many are happy to be able to CHOOSE, and not have a law telling them what they have to do.
Would you want to have to wear a helmet in your car/truck? Although next to some drivers on some highways I might consider it a requirement. LOL!
Now let's really get the board stirred and discuss firearms! :SThe OP asked a very good question, in a responsible manner, then a person like this that doesn't like the question or responsible discussion decides it is his responsibility to kill the thread.....If you don't like the thread, then ignore it, but at least let there be an adult like responsible discussion.
I'm sorry...I started laughing at the term "HOGs".
Then it got serious with the brain bucket discussion on this RV board.
Does the OP ride or are they just annoyed at the sound of MCs riding past?
Maybe if everyone trailered their bikes or loaded them into toy hauler RV's the OP would not be as bothered unless the convoy of RVs and loud diesel's and light duty tractors pulling 40+ foot 5th wheel toy haulers tied up traffic in their town.
Helmet threads and firearms threads are like oil threads...And who has the better tow vehicle threads. :)
I can discuss the pros and cons of helmets and protective gear and seatbelts and weight limts and...
All are valid discussion topics...When discussed by people inquiring or deciding for their own use.
As a rider I responded in the manner in which I perceived the post to have been written...To solicit opinions about whether noisy bikers are irresponsible and disregard life by blasting through town without helmets.
For now - This is still the United States of America. We still have the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Let FREEDOM ring!
I am happy to live in a state that allows me the freedom to choose.

RE: Your favorite RV gadget?

I had no idea where to put this post--I hope long-time RVers will see it here.
I will be camping with a group of women in a couple of weeks. Without going into detail, I am going to be presenting everyone with a very small and inexpensive party-favor-type thing. I will need about 8 of them at most, and would like to keep the price close to $5-6 apiece, and all the same thing. There are so many neat little handy doodads for RVers, but I'm coming up blank for what to get. Anyone have any ideas? Is there anything in your RV that is incredibly handy but cost very little?
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

RE: Spacious 20-23 ft. trailer sugg. Bringing 2 med. sized dogs

Wow! Thank you for the quick replies. They all look good. So, if we're looking for 'top of the line', what would you suggest? We live on the coast of WA state, so finding a nearby place to service it is also important. Olympia, Tacoma would be the closest areas. And for all you 'dog friendly' people, how do you contain your dogs while parked? Fencing? We have two active brittanies.
Thank you again!
Caroline
We have 2 cockers and use 2 folding baby corrals to enclose our patio area.

RE: Landing jack blocks

If the ground was soft enough for the 12x12 to sink in, use a larger base, maybe a 2x8" 3 feet long to spread the weight over a larger area.

Sorry for the hijack...Just noticed...another with the same spelling.

Carry on.

RE: Peppermint oil

Mouse Magic is a product made from peppermint and spearmint oils so it should work similar to straight peppermint. It does say to renew it every month and results improve with the more you use. It gets mixed reviews on Amazon.
We just moved to a new storage facility which backs to a field near a quarry.
I went there and placed Fresh Cab sachets and Mouse Magic packets and Bounce sheet throughout storage and corners and cabinets and next to plumbing openings that I could access.
I hope it all works! LOL!

RE: Pa state parks at mercy of mining entities

While it's true PA is getting revenue from drilling fees, it is not near what they should be collecting, period. Sure, things will "boom" in the Marcellus shale region for the next few decades, but when it's all over huge swaths of PA will be uninhabitable because there'll be no water to drink. Corbett & the gas companies will be long gone.
If you question this, then I suggest you take a drive west on Rt. 54 from just north of Tamaqua. Check out the legacy the coal mining industry left to us. JMHO

RE: Why do people do such stupid things?

I've always had a problem in trying to take my motorcycle with me when traveling and really never found an acceptable solution. what did I do (on impulse) I bought a second one that is almost identical to the one I've had but it's 25 years newer. NOW I have the problem of how to take two of them :E
We bought a toy hauler so we could take the dogs on our bike trips. :h

RE: WERE GETTING READY- WHAT DID WE FORGET

As well does anybody know of any kind of website or download that will help my wife learn how to back me into our camp spot. I am trying to avoid a divorse or worse yet a murder. I don't know who is going to kill who.
Pull-Through sites are worth the extra $ when available...Cheaper than a Divorce/Criminal Attorney. :B

RE: Leveling Ramps Question

... From first glance, it appears that these make leveling a breeze as you just continue to back-up the ramp until you're level from side to side. After receiving the ramps yesterday, I noticed that my tires are slightly wider than the ramp itself. I was always taught that any unsupported tread area on a tire can weaken the sidewall belts. I don't know if this is factual or simply an old wives tale.
Secondly, once the tires are up the ramp they need to be "chocked" to stay in place. I have a set of the BAL x-chocks, but have read that they are not to be used as chocks, but are only meant to prevent trailer motion when walking. I can cut angles on a piece of 4 x 4 to use as a chock. Just wondering if anyone else bought these levelers and what they did to chock their tires.
Thanks...
Perhaps use the ramps to get up to level, then use wood or pads to drive onto. Now you can use the BAL X-Chocks.
