RE: What Would You Do?

If all you haul is a TC, get a gas engine from one of the Big 3. There is no TC out there that requires a diesel engine to haul. If you absolutely want/need a Diesel I would recommend the Dodge. If you do buy a Dodge with a Cummins just be aware that 2012 is that last year they don't require Urea.

RE: Lance truck campers TPO Nose construction

I would have been impressed if they showed that they had an aerodynamic advantage similar to sleepy's air foil that directed bugs and air away.
Yes they do. At least that's what they stated at the factory tour last year.

RE: Lance 850 Sewer Hose Storage

I think the 850 has a small, short compartment and some owners feel the need to use an exterior mounted hose carrier , mounted under the side, over the bedrail.
http://lanceowners.hoop.la/topic/small-sewer-hose-compartment
That is me. The sewer hose compartment on my 850 is a joke. I mounted a sewer hose holder I got from Camping World underneath the right side of the camper. Can not even see it because it tucks up under the camper. Now I have a real sewer hose and not the little 7 footer that could only fit in the stock compartment.

RE: Laguna Seca Camping

I did see the cost of the different campgrounds and it is extremely high but I still wanted to go. But not having any hook ups and now finding out the dump station will not be available probably has changed my mind. Just for my wife and I to go would be about 600 bucks and that does not include the gas to get there and back. Maybe next year, and even then I will drive my wife's Jetta and stay in a hotel.
I'm very sorry if I scared you off! There are over 150 sites with hook-ups - electicity and water. And the dump station situation has never scared us off either. It just means that you get to relax while everyone else jams the exits. Once the hoards leave, you can use the dump station.
We will be there again in just a couple of weeks for the American LeMans Series races. We've been going to the races at Laguna Seca since the 80's. Never been in a hotel yet!!!
It's OK. You didn't scare me off. I already knew it was going to be expensive so I was kind of on the fence about going. The Reunion race looks awesome but I will wait when the feature marque car is Jaguar, this year its Corvette. I'm a Jaguar guy.

We planned on camping on the raceway during the vintage car racing in August, but we were wondering which of the places on the track was the best.
Thanks

Laguna Seca Camping

Hi all,
My wife and I are planning on a trip to Laguna Seca. Does anyone have an opinion on the best location to camp for best view, nicest spots, etc. We've never been and would appreciate any input. We will be in a truck camper and could do hookups or we have a generator.
Thanks!

RE: For you Dodge Ram folks

CAT makes their own trucks:
Cats back
Maybe they will be as silly as Dodge and put a gas engine option in the CAT truck:)
Cat trucks are made by International and powered by International. Part of Cats settlement when they sued International over the HUEI fuel system. Only thing Cat about those trucks is the Dash layout and badges. Nothing wrong with a gas powered 450/4500 or 550/5500 series trucks. Ford has been doing it for years.

RE: For you Dodge Ram folks

Some states, including mine, are banning Diesel powered trucks from large fleets. C.A.R.B. considers Diesel emissions public enemy #1 here in southern California. Ford is offering the V10 with the Torshift 6 in F650 and F750 trucks for the 2013 model year. Dodge is smart for doing this as it will appeal to large fleet buyers, mostly municipalities.

RE: Northern California to San Diego

We are doing the same trip but coming from San Diego and heading to San Fran. We are taking the 101 because the 5 is possibly the least interesting way to travel. Nothing to see until you hit the Grapevine and even then it aint much.

RE: About to pull trigger...maybe

My wife and I were actually going to buy one of those units you are talking about. It's Many Trails RV, in Prescott right? We called and set up to go purchase the more "loaded" unit and told them we had cash, even asked if they accepted a personal check. Well, low and behold the NEXT MORNING (not even 24 hours after the discussion) they raised the price on the two units by $500 each. That soured us on the deal and we ended up buying a Lance from Galaxy in Ontario, CA. We didn't even call them to notify them that we weren't coming. Just dropped them cold. This was back in April and we saw them raise the price by $1,000 each before lowering them back down to what you are seeing now.
All of this is to say, watch out for these guys. They seemed to jack the price up when they thought they had a buyer. Ask for the price in writing before going out there.
Wait. If you didn't call them back, how did you know what they were going to charge you?
A few days before we were going to go up there I checked their website to confirm the address and time they opened so I could map out directions for the long trip. That's when I saw the price increase, the day after we told them we were going to drive all the way there to buy it.

RE: How often do you unload your camper on outings?

I would unload if I ever had the need to but it has not happen yet. But we only had our TC for 4 months now. I found this on Youtube, I think this is what people are scared of what can happen. Click

RE: I was right...bought a SRW.

Geez, SWR vs. DWR, gasser vs. Diesel, slide-out vs. Non slide, pop-up vs. hardside, solar vs.generator, Chevy vs. Dodge vs. Ford, long bed vs. short bed, regular cab vs extended cab vs crew cab... Did I forget any? I got my SWR because it was all I needed and I am within my weights. Just be thankful we all have choices on our setups.

RE: This looks like a good way to add more batteries to your TC

I called Torklift yesterday about the hidden power. They are not ready to sell them yet but said the kit is going to retail for about $60. I might get one and make a custom box for it to store tools or whatever. I think its a slick setup. You can get plastic battery boxes at most auto parts stores that should fit where the battery normally fits on that under bed mounting bracket. Last one I bought was from Pep-Boys in Encinitas.
A plastic battery box would work only problem is they open from the top. I would like something that opens from the end of the box, preferably the end facing the front of the rear tire for easier access.Check Escondido Metal Supply on Mission. They have a huge assortment of military ammo cans for cheap. I've seen some there that open from the end of the can that would about do what you are describing.
Thanks for the tip.
