RE: I was right...bought a SRW.

Geez, SWR vs. DWR, gasser vs. Diesel, slide-out vs. Non slide, pop-up vs. hardside, solar vs.generator, Chevy vs. Dodge vs. Ford, long bed vs. short bed, regular cab vs extended cab vs crew cab... Did I forget any? I got my SWR because it was all I needed and I am within my weights. Just be thankful we all have choices on our setups.

RE: This looks like a good way to add more batteries to your TC

I called Torklift yesterday about the hidden power. They are not ready to sell them yet but said the kit is going to retail for about $60. I might get one and make a custom box for it to store tools or whatever. I think its a slick setup. You can get plastic battery boxes at most auto parts stores that should fit where the battery normally fits on that under bed mounting bracket. Last one I bought was from Pep-Boys in Encinitas.
A plastic battery box would work only problem is they open from the top. I would like something that opens from the end of the box, preferably the end facing the front of the rear tire for easier access.Check Escondido Metal Supply on Mission. They have a huge assortment of military ammo cans for cheap. I've seen some there that open from the end of the can that would about do what you are describing.
Thanks for the tip.

RE: Shock Advice

When I bought my truck through fleet sales, the guy suggested I avoid the FX4 package and go with stock suspension for better hauling. Maybe people knew about these for some time?
People have. If you google FX4 Ranchos you will see nothing but complaints and early failures. Someone replaced their FX4 Ranchos with 4600 miles on them and they were already bad. When I replaced mine with Bilstein 5100's I compressed all 4 fake Ranchos (very easily) and a week later 2 of them were still fully compressed. I don't understand why Rancho lets Ford put their name on such garbage.

RE: Queston on Honda 2000 and AC

Butch 50. My Honda does the same thing. It runs rather slowly and when the compressor kicks in, it bogs( for the lack fo a better word). Then the microwave beeps and the a/c comes on. does it every time the compressor cycles on.
Have had theHonda for 1 1/2 years and it does this everytime. I run it in eco mode to save gas. Do not know if this will cause a problem with the a/c in the future or not.
Mine does he exact same thing when in ECO mode. Microwave beeps when the compressor kicks in.

RE: Camping in Las Vegas

Thanks are all the recommendations! Looks like we are leaning towards Sams Town. We also plan on going to the Hoover Dam. My wife drives a Jetta TDI, so we could go to Vegas and back for well under 100 bucks for fuel but its not the same as taking the camper.

RE: Adventurer 86FB

We we seriously considering 86FB. We saw it when it first came out at an RV show about 2 years ago. We just don't have an Adventurer dealer anywhere near us. So we ended up buying a Lance 850 which is great too. The tank sizes of the 86FB dwarf the Lance 825 and that alone would be a good selling point.

RE: This looks like a good way to add more batteries to your TC

How would one wire up that extra battery to the camper batteries?
Couldn't you just tap into the harness going to the socket/plug feeding the camper?
That would be before the camper isolator.

RE: This looks like a good way to add more batteries to your TC

Looks like it would also make a great place to store emergency tools or whatever else if you don't need more batteries. I like it!
How would one wire up that extra battery to the camper batteries? Mine are under the step up into the cab over. It would have to be after the isolater which is also inside the camper under the dinnette seat.

RE: Shock Advice

If you are talking about the "Rancho Shocks" that come with the FX4 package they are not really Ranchos. They are motorcraft shocks with Rancho branding (as stated on the Ford website) and are known for their early failure rates. Just replaced mine with some Bilstiens 5100 and had two of the 4 fake Ranchos bad at 13000 miles. If the fronts have a hard fake plastic boot they are Rancho branded motorcraft shocks and are junk.

Camping in Las Vegas

Can anyone recommend a campsite with somewhat easy access to The Strip? We are planning a two night stay and also a visit to The Hoover Dam. We were looking at Oasis, LVRV resort, and Sams Town. If there are others please share. Thanks.

RE: Figures!!! 1050 discontinued

I'm sure it will come back or something similar in a few years. We bought our 850 4 months ago knowing we would upgrade in 4 or 5 years to a 950 or 1050. Just wanted to make sure Truck Camping was something we liked. We loved the 1050 and were dissapointed to see it go. I hope they bring it back soon. Right now their only non slide for a long bed is the 850 which we are finding out is a little short on storage.

RE: TV ?

I bought a 19" Westinghouse LED TV from Target for $99 and a Harbor Freight 150 watt inverter for $15. The combo works great and no worries about running down the batteries. Its not like we sit in the camper all day watching TV, just at night before we go to bed sometimes.

RE: Truck Camper Ranking

Just saw this on Amazon and I remembered this topic. Its a book rating TC's by brand. It's pretty recent too, from last year.

RE: Rising tire pressures

Thanks for the replies. I already knew that tires are to be checked cold. I do that all the time. It just seemed to me that the pressure increase was larger than what I expected it to be.
My dash readout just goes wacky when the pressure goes above 95#. It went to 1# and gave me a constant warning.
It was really hot this weekend and was looking for verification that all was well with the pressure.
Thanks again for the thoughts. This is the problem with these electronic tire pressure monitor systems they manufacturers are now required to put on the cars. Folks don't know whats up and get all worried about nothing. Tires have been acting like this since the dawn of rubber, air-filled tires some 80 years ago. Really wish they would leave this stuff alone and quit with all the unnecessary electronic gadgets forcing down our throats.
Soon all cars and trucks will require back up cameras.

RE: Let there be music!

Does that door vibrate when you have the sub turned up?
Surprisingly it doesn't at all. But it is only an 8" sub.
And to OasisBob... Where I camp, there are no neighbors. And you especially couldn't get there in a Kia pulling a trailer! :B
Love it
