RE: Ford Diesel Problem

Signs of injejector problem(s). Also, make sure the dealer updates the computer with the latest flash program...and watch your horsepower go bye bye.

RE: Driving TC through Yosemite--height restrictions

Delivery semi-trucks/trailers and garbage trucks drive both of those entrances daily. My rig is almost 12' and I travel those tunnels each year...no problems. Going through the rock on Hwy 140 just inside the gate is way bigger than it looks...looks like you won't fit until you see that semi or class A in front of you.

RE: Passengers in TC

Danged straight! How else would our gi-tar pickin', tobacco spittin', pink-eyed, interbred offspring ever reach the age of consent (12) when they can smoke, get married, and ride ATV's without a helmet if we was lettin' them fall out of our pick-up trucks? You gotta think of the children!
You post a comment like this and are offended about being "stereotyped"? (which by the way...is FACT!)
Yup...stupidity confirmed.

RE: Need tc towed

Had my rig towed about a month ago over 30 miles after one of the turbo CAC tube clamps broke and the tube blew off. Told AAA the weight and height so as to send the right truck. It was a medium duty (not a semi) tow truck, not a flat bed. The front was jacked up on the lift with straps over the front wheels. Had to remove the rear section of the drive shaft so the driveline would not spin while being towed. The TC slipped back in the bed about 1" because of the angle of the truck with the front end jacked up for 30 miles. All but one thing worked out...MAKE SURE THE DRIVE SHAFT JOINT IS "INDEXED" WITH A PEN/PENCIL/SCRAPE OF A SCREWDRIVER, ETC BEFORE IT'S REMOVED so your shop will know exactly where and how to mate it up again with the front section of the shaft. It took my tech about an hour to find the right way to re-install because the ribbed collar has one rib that is smaller than all the rest. It was a pain, but must be done to tow at any length.

RE: Link to U.S. Satellite TV positions

If you have DirecTV, use the zip code input in the antenna setup and it will give you the azimuth/angle degrees. Then just use a compass. As long as I'm not parked under trees I find it everytime. If you travel more than 100 miles or so out of your home area, you'll likely lose your local channels.

RE: New Super Duty Diesel on the Horizon

I predict it will be a complete disaster.
That is FUNNY!
After the thousands of $$ I've poured into my 6.0 I would like to have faith in Ford...but I may have to agree with Brad on this one.
But I still hope not, as I would like to buy an F-450 in the future. Time will tell.........

RE: Generator stops...unexplained

Check the propane line leading to the genny for kinks. If it's like mine, the line is to short for the radius and in time will kink and starve the genny for fuel. Replace it with a new line at least 3' long to create a larger radius. My genny exhibited the same thing you describe. You might also check the vent tube for spider web clogs...if your's has one. Let us know what happens.

RE: Yosemite and Half Dome from the top

Wayne,
I have friends who have packed climbing ropes & rigging to the top of Half Dome and then repelled down the face. The photos they took were just crazy looking! Also, I might be wrong, but I think that's illegal.

RE: Yosemite and Half Dome from the top

If you can get a ride from someone, start at Glacier point and hike to the valley. It is all downhill. About 2 miles, but very steep. I want DW to drop me off and see if I can walk back to camp faster than she can drive around. I have never done this, but it is on my bucket list.
Did this about 2 years ago...it's actually a little over 4 miles down to the valley floor, hence the name "4 Mile Trail" It is ALL down hill with switch backs cut out of the face of the mountain. It has excellent views of the valley all the way down. You can ride the tour bus from Yosemite Lodge one way to the top of Glacier Point...I think it cost's $20-25. When you arrive at the valley floor, there is a welcome shuttle stop to take you back to the lodge or parking areas.
I highly recommend this hike.

RE: Looking at an '05 F-350 - Opinions on Longevity

Lifetime warranty? I would take it...that would have saved me over $7K in repair bills since I hit 100K miles. 2 EGR Coolers, 1 Oil Cooler. Currently has 145k miles. Haven't lost the head gaskets, injectors or turbo...yet. The re-flash Ford did 2 years ago zapped some of the torque/power but it still hauls the TC fine and I guess thats better than blown head gaskets and turbo (minimum $8K to repair plus cost of ARP studs $450).

RE: Yosemite and Half Dome from the top

We always have a backpacking water pump and filter with us, so we can refill water along the way. there is plenty of water all the way up to Little Yosemite Valley. As you climb from there then the next water opportunity is nearly a mile due east on the trail to Clouds Rest. I don't use that unless I am going to Clouds Rest. There is one other water source as you work your way up the trail to Half Dome. It is right beside the trail. It might be dry in late summer.
That is very good advice. I do carry a water filter, which was used by some others hiking with me, but I was able to make it back to the water fill-up station at the foot bridge under Vernal Falls (less than a mile up from the valley floor). I ran out about 1/2 mile before that.

RE: Yosemite and Half Dome from the top

Somebody raised a good point; quite a log jam going up...what if you are heading down?
Is there sufficient room to pass?
There are a few people coming down in the photo of the log jam of people on the cables. There is room, you just squeeze around each other. Most were stopped because they were tired, short of breath and resting. Took about 30 minutes to ascend the cables. It's amazing how friendly everyone is on those cables. Many European tourists...I learned German on the way up and French on the way down!

RE: Yosemite and Half Dome from the top

Jeff,
Take the hike...you might lose 12 more pounds in a day! Half Dome is 8,832 feet above sea level. Yosemite Valley floor is about 4,000 feet. There are two stretches of the trail that climb 1,500 feet in 1 mile. I think I lost 5 pounds. I took a 100 ml. Camelback filled with water and used it ALL...but it was 90+ degree's last week.

RE: lance roof

I made a custom fit platform out of 3/4" plywood and used "U" bolts to attach it to the Yakima rack. Bullnosed the edges with a router, painted white to match the roof. It spans the width of the camper and is 36" wide...big enough to set chairs on to avoid the feet gouging the rubber roof. I watched all qualifying, practice, Nationwide & Sprint Cup Series races at California Speedway in Fontana last year. My spot was in Row 2 on the back stretch exiting turn 2. Had my Wife and 7 year old dauhter up there with me. The rack handled the load with no problem.

You'll be back!
There will come a time that you will get tired of loading and unloading, washing, and parking that long thing. The splendor of the TC, and cargo trailer will prevail in the end.
