RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

LOL! That is funny 928gt.. I appreciate the back up, but I am not worried, I realize some will say I am being to hard on the dealer.... I did buy "used", but I guess customer service is out the window even with so much $ spent just 7 short months ago. I wil sleep fine tonight :)

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

We looked it over good, I buy-work on- and sell cars/trucks, and I don't blame the dealer completely for not finding it.. What hacks me off is even when I offered to buy a "brand new RV" from them he didn't say, let me see what we can do, sorry, lets take a look.. nothing his response was "it is a bad situation and I can't take the loss". No offer to help at all, that is what hacks me off the most. Yes I bought "used as is" but good business practices usually entail helping your customers that drop $22k.. but that may just be me.
I went the insurance route because the dealer suggested that at first. Didn't honestly expect them to pay, because there is no "damage".

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

I am not sure who did that, maybe it was my wifes husband :)
It was starting to rain and I figured sloppy was better at that point. I am planning to redo it. Thanks for taking the time to post up those suggestions. I am planning to investigate the front structural issue to make sure, and put a corner brace over the crack. More to come......

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

I have only really got 4 months or so of use, and I expected the local dealer to take care of the customer. It is a Thor.ca and with them out of business I am not expecting anything... Who would I contact, MVP? Don't honestly expect them to help either. I stopped by a distributor for Tahoe's and they told me it would not be a manuf issue either, so I am about done with it all.
The dealer didn't offer to help at all, no appology, not even a sorry... just "you are in a bad situatuion". And my comment almost was you put us here just 7 or so months ago.

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

Update.... well got a call from insurance co today. They said they will not cover it because there is no "damage" to it that may have caused the issues at hand. ???
Went to place where I bought it 7 months ago and found out that they SUCK! DO NOT BUY FROM FRANKLIN BIG COUTNRY RV IN ABILENE TX. I said so you are telling me I bought a camper from you 7 months ago for $22k, and now it has $15k worth of damage and you can't help me? He said I can't take that loss. My response was "were done" and I left before I got out of hand and the cops had to come.... I am still pissed.
So now I am stuck with it. I am going to do some disassembly and investigate the area above the hitch and see if there is structural damage. Depending on what I find I am planning to take it and trade it in at a different place a buddy of mine recommended. Stopped by with and they took a look and said it may just be a poorly made trailer and the glue is giving way because of the TX heat. Well, we will see when I get some panels off of it.
More to come........

Here are a few pics taken during the process of taking everything out.
The pics of the right side show the delamination issue right above the axle... you can see a bubble. The inside picture is of the rear toy hauler section where the outer walls are starting to sag over the frame rails.. that wasn't noticed until today, so I am pretty sure if it is not totaled it will be after I mention this issue. I am ready for this to be done and over with..
I hate not having a camper.

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

Ok, here are the numbers from the estimate.
Front Filon $393
Side Filon $1573
Facia Boards $140
Shop Supplies $300
Freight & Crate $3k
Labor $9500
Tax $200 ish
Total $15,106
21 Days to complete repairs.
Still waiting for an actual word on if they are planning to fix or total. I picked it up today to clean it out, I figured it needed to be cleaned either way.
Went down to another RV place and checked out Sandpipers and Wildcats... Probably going that way if they total it. Mama likes the 345QBQ if I remember right...
Keep your fingers crossed, I will keep adding updates until this fiasco is done.. I am about tired of it already. I am done with used though I will tell you that.

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

I will get the exact numbers, but I want to say they estimated the side repair siding at $1,500 but the labor for all was... get this...95 hours at $100 per hour, total= $9,500???? HOLY COW I am in the wrong business.

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

Not sure if there is structural damage, I think they are playing the worst case thing. The side delam will require an entire new side of the camper. I think that one is the biggest issue. The front with just delam wouldn't be a problem, but the crack below the slide out is causing some worry.
I think you are right of the Insurance thing, not a road hazard, more of a water damage due to leaking roof... so probably Comp. We will see, I am just ready for something to happen, I hate waiting.

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

UPDATE:
Well I got a call from the RV dealer a day or so ago and they quoted $15,740 to repair the front crack/delam and right side delamination issue. Lets just say I only paid $22k so I am expecting a phone call any day now saying it will be totaled and I can get it to clean it out.
So a word of caution to all, watch what you buy used and be sure to have insurance on it, you never know what will rear its head later on down the road.
The worst part is I buy cars and trucks all of the time and I am very good at looking something over and picking out any issues.. but this thing looked good even to me. Now I know though and I am thinking the next one will be new and be made a little better.
Man this sucks, I really liked the camper......

RE: F350 Tow Boss VS F450

http://www.texasoffroad.net/galleries/ohv/album320/RearAxle3
HUGE rear axle, here is a shot of it. Back up a couple pics in the album to see it. It has a drop out center section like a 9", it is a Dana 135. The front is a Dana 60 with larger unit bearings and brakes, and the bolt pattern is the larger 228mm 8 lug v/s the standard 177mm 8 lug. After having a flat bed I will not have a regular bed again on my main tow rig. I love the visiblity and toughness of the flat bed. Just had it rhinolined and it looks good :)
I am of the opinion that I like overkill when towing heavy things with my family in the truck. You never know when a knuckle head is going to jump out in front of you and cause a panic stop (ask me how I know). I like pulling 12k with 9.5k worth of truck :) Not much of the tail wagging the dog. With my Toy Hauler it has a scale weight of 25,220 loaded and full tank of diesel coming back from Florida.

RE: F350 Tow Boss VS F450

http://www.texasoffroad.net/galleries/ohv/album131
I love my F450 even with the 6.0L I would rather have it. I have owned an 01 F250 4 door single rear wheel and an 01 F350 4 dr dually. The dually pulled great, but you could "feel" the weight on the truck when pulling a large trailer. With the F450 it doesn't "feel heavy" (if you can understand that :) ). I told my wife we are screwed now that I have the 450, I will never be able to own anything smaller to tow with :). Oh I have used our Excursion to tow a few times and it does fine, but I do not like the sway that you get in curves and when passed by big trucks... The F450 dually with 19.5" wheels doesn't sway :)

RE: Wish me luck Tahoe issue

Well it is at the dealer. I played nice, but I am having to file it on my Insurance. This is the first claim I have had in over 15 years so I figure this is a good cause :). I did buy it as is, but what ticks me off is I went over it with a fine tooth comb and there was no visible issues. But that is what happens when you buy used. I had a chance to get a brand new one when I got it for $1k more, but it was a lot smaller and did not have a generator.
They will have to get with my insurance (USAA) and they will send a field agent to assess the damage with them and decide on a course of action. I honestly hope it is fixable and just a case of the glue has let go on the outer sheeting, with the heat we have had lately in TX it wouldn't suprise me. But they are a little worried about the delamination over the right side axles. That one would require an entire new side..
Hopefully I will know something in the next few days.. I will update with pics if/when they beging working on it. I hope to be there when they pull it apart.
Now if my insurance won't cover it you will see me go from nice to prick in about .01 sec. I have only had it for 7 freakin' months and I was gone the first 4.5 of it..

Wish me luck Tahoe issue

Ok, here we go:
I bought my 05 Tahoe Transport 36WTB in Jan, I left in Feb for the Desert for 4 months, I get home and notice a little ripple in the front of the 5er. I chalk it up to just normal. Took it on a quick 50 mile each way trip to test everything. Trip went fine, no issues. We loaded up over the next 2-3 weeks and headed to Disney World from Abilene TX. 1400 miles later one way we hit Orlando... still no issues. Headed home a week later we stopped in La at my parents and I noticed about an 8" crack on the left front lower side of the camper where the front slide out is. I put silicone over it to keep moisture from making its way in until I can get it checked. After looking more closly now I have found on the right side over the axle there is delamination, and the nose is getting worse. The worst part of this is I love the 5er and the generator set up works like a champ... But I am not sure what the dealer will say. Keep your fingers crossed that I do not have to be a A$$ about it and paint "do not buy from this dealership" and park it in front of their place on Saturdays :) Worst case is they agree it is done/totaled and I hope they are willing to give me the $$ back I spent toward another 5er, because realistically I don't expect them to be able to fix it. :( If they won't deal I will also have the option to file it on the insurance but I really don't want to go that way...
Wish me luck.. I will get some pics and give an update tomorrow night.
Thanks for listening,
Mike
