RE: 1150 vs. 990

Mike in Oly, it's not just about the weight of the camper, but how it sits in the bed. I found the AF990 to be a great fit for my extended cab dually. It's "center of gravity" point (COG) is just forward of the rear axle, so 96% of the total weight goes over the rear axle. I previously had a much lighter Lance 11.5 that had it's COG way behind the rear axle, made for some poor drivability as I really had to work to keep the truck from wandering as too much weight was pulled off the front axle. Although a COG location does not seem to be an important issue, it can significantly effect drivability more than the actual weight of the camper. I see that Northwood does not list the COG points?

RE: The continuing Saga waiting for my new Ram 3500

Hi NC,
Why not wait a month, re-order a 14' while Ram debugs the 13' issues and their part shortages (as we know from the Cummins forum). Hopefully by the 3rd qtr they will have these trucks filling the lots. This whole mess has me now waiting to see what happens as once the camping season is over, I could even wait until next Spring.
If you do look at "your" 13', I'd sure like to know if the new lighting is significant enough for me to go for the Laramie?

RE: Northstar quality?

Hello,
I went and looked at a new Northwood popup TC today and was disapointed by the quality of the cabinets and such. They seemed to be made of particle board with wood grain stickers on them. I was really hoping to see better quality, as I am thinking about an Arrow 8.5. Does anyone know if the Arrow would be the same as the new popup I saw? How do you feel about the quality of the cabinets in real use, do they seem to be ok or fail quickly?
Thanks!
Jason
Northwood popup? Don't you mean Northstar?

RE: '90 Chevy 1/2 Ton 305 V8

I owned an 88 GMC 1500 4x4 SB, with the Auto & 350CI V8, only had a 5600 GVWR. Had no ability to carry any weight.

RE: 3/4 or 1 Ton Truck?

Bud99, make sure you educate yourself on truck camper mfgr weight labels, they usually represent only the base model without installed options.

RE: Arctic Fox 860 Theft Recovery Project

bcpatton, the wire (orange) that splits off the block fuse stud is just going to another fuse block (it's not a connector). I'm not sure where it goes from there, it's likely just another +12vdc supply line. AFs come Solar and Generator ready, so I have many lbs. of wire in the TC that I don't use, some of which is visible in the under sink area.

RE: 10 years on the Truck Camper Forum

After 10+ yrs on this site myself, two site server crash resets, and being "deleted" another 2x by a moderator for "deleting" old posts, I get to live on quietly as a newbie member :W
Oh yeh, NY. Yes, the forum owner does not like folks to go back and delete the text out of all their old posts, even if they are being stalked by Russian spies. I remember you, but my brain forgets your old user name. About when did you join?
Came over about the same time as you from the HappyCampers forum, and another forum that I can't recall from back then? User name was that of a once proud crewmember of USS REASONER. While she has since been sent down to Davy Jones' Locker, "FF1063" will always be my real user name :p

RE: Almost made a huge mistake

Thanks to those who told me about the Ram Crew Cab as I've never considered a Dodge product before and know not much about them. I checked the numbers on that CC model and, while a little under the Chevy, are very workable with what I'm towing. We really enjoyed the Megacab test drive yesterday and really the what we're seeing in the Ram. We'll be heading to Phoenix soon and will bring home either the Chevy or Ram CC. Thanks again.
Check out the link below if your interested in a 13' Ram 3500.
TDR 2013 Info
If considering the GM 3500, it's about to get a major update, I'd wait.

RE: With or without oven

I prefer one, although I do not use it often. I found it was a great to have after hurricane Sandy. With no power at home for 7 days, it saw a lot of use.

RE: Which Truck?

This ones easy :B
2013-14 Ram 3500 6.7 CTD DRW Crew Cab, tows up to 30,000 lbs
Could you explain how a truck that weighs 8000 to 9000 lbs and has a GCWR of 37600 can tow 30,000 Pounds. That would have to be a stripper std cab 2x4 and really light passengers and hitch, and low on fuel!!!
Chris
You're correct, it would take a stripper to get to the >30K+ max tow.
But even a "loaded" Ram Laramie 3500 Crew Cab DRW is rated for over 29K+ lbs, (37,500 GCWR - 8,069 Ram 3500 Laramie Crew Cab DRW Curb Weight = 29,xxx lbs max tow). Ram charts, not mine.

RE: New Dodge with 342 rear

The newest Ram 3500 DRW configuration I plan to purchase has a trailer tow rating of 20,410 lbs with the 3.42 ratio. Hopefully, empty hwy will yield up towards 20 mpg, but regardless of what it is, the 4.10 crowds will likely see 20% less, and that's a huge $$$ cost in fuel over the life of the truck.

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

Remember this is not a bashing by no means. AF makes very good things. I get along with most everyone and if you think it is a higher agenda on my part...you would be mistaken. My challenge is to dig into this thing and find out what the heck is going on under that skin. We all want to know and see it ..right?...
Sure reads like an AF Bash party to me! Northwood is tops for customer service issues after purchase... but after seven years, really?

RE: CHINESE CHEVROLET - A MUST READ

Someday soon we'll all look back, and pass the blame. As a service member in the 80's I watched the economic demise of the Soviet Union, we outspent them. Now it's our turn, and it's not really about GM. We've already given China more than enough rope to hang us with, just a matter of time now.
