RE: Houston-Yellowstone

Been to Yellowstone several times and a number of different ways. Routing depends on how long you have to get there, whether you like IH driving and if you are going to sightsee while traveling to Yellowstone. With that information, I think that you will get some good suggestions.

RE: Yellowstone, Grand Tetons or Glacier Access

We were there a few years ago the last week of June. The Going to the Sun road had just opened the day before and it was one lane in places while the road was under repair. The visitors center near the top still had about 4 or 5 feet of snow around it.

RE: Hempstead, Texas campgrounds

I've passed by there a number of times. This is strictly based on opinion from a distance, but the roads appear to be gravel and dirt as well as the pads. Some spots are un-level, and there is no shade which shouldn't be a problem in December. Don't know about amenities, but it apparently has a nice recreation center or meeting place as I see a number of RVs there on weekends.

RE: Summer storms

Here in the Houston/Galveston area when the last significant hurricane hit (cat 1 I think), the news media hyped up the storm by telling everyone to evacuate. As a result the roads were jammed with traffic for tens if not hundred of miles going north and west. Way more people died on the roads trying to evacuate than the storm killed. You will need to make a decision to evacuate probably 3 or 4 days before landfall and then leave at least several days before the storm's actual landfall to avoid a similar mess!

RE: Alaska-Cruise vs Driving

We went on a 13 day cruise tour by flying to Vancouver then cruising the inner passage to Skagway. From there, took a combination of train, tour bus and a boat ride to White Horse, Dawson City, Eagle, Chicken, Fairbanks, Denali and Anchorage. Stayed two nights in Dawson City, Fairbanks, Denali and Anchorage. It was a great trip and a good way to sample what the Yukon and Alaska has to offer! Definitely made us want to go back!

RE: Changed the pitch on the awning

This looks like a great DIY project that a number of people might be interested in doing. Wish you had more pics, as I can't really understand exactly what modifications to the arms were made.

RE: Is this SuperGlide missing anything??? NEED HELP QUICK!!!!

I would not weld the capture plate to the pin box. If you have to get towed by a large wrecker like I did, the capture plate will have to be removed for the king pin on the trailer to properly attach to the wrecker! May not be an easy task if broken down on the side of the road.

RE: 2011 Jayco Eagle 321RLTS Jake plate adjustment

Yes that is one of the things I had to do after a number of welds failed due in part I believe to improper welds. Good luck!

RE: 2011 Jayco Eagle 321RLTS Jake plate adjustment

Had to do that to my Jayco Superlite Eagle to get it level after lowering the pin box to get proper clearance on my dodge bed rails. Just be aware that when you use the lowest holes on the jack plate that it will increase stresses on the frame and spring hangers when turning. Check your frame welds over your wheels periodically to make sure that the welds are still good.

16 Inch Wheels for Jayco Superlite 31.5 FBHS

Has anyone replaced their 15 inch tires on their Jayco 5er with 16 inch tires? I contacted Jayco and all they will tell you is that they recommend what's on the sticker of the Jayco regarding tire sizes or anything else. I'm sure that is their position from a legal standpoint. Also contacted Tire Rack about using LT tires with the trailer and they flatly said that they couldn't recommend that-another legal position I guess. Thanks for any input.

RE: Greenball TowMaster Tire Problem

Thanks for all of your comments. I didn't mean for this to be a bash china made tires or Greenball tires in particular thread, but I was wondering if anyone had experienced an inner liner separation and was it an indication of possible imminent tire failure.

Greenball TowMaster Tire Problem

On our annual vacation, pulled into a KOA in Lubbock Texas. After setting up, my wife noticed that the rear Towmaster Load Range D trailer tire was low on air. Got the tire gauge out and the pressure wouldn't even register. Inspected the tire thoroughly and found that I had picked up a very long thorn in the area where the tread meets the sidewall that couldn't be patched. Pulled the tire and found several wires from the belt sticking out of the tire within a foot of the thorn. These tires had less than 10,000 miles on them. I am very careful about keeping the tires properly inflated and try to keep my speed around 60 miles per hour when towing. I replaced the Load Range D tire with a Carlisle Load Range E tire (only thing available from Discount Tire without having to wait several days). Got to thinking about using two different Load Range tires on the same axle, and after some research decided that it was a bad idea. Removed the Towmaster Load Range D tire on the other side of the same axle and had Discount Tire install another Carlisle Load Range E tire on the rim. This Greenball Towmaster tire looked fine from the outside and I was planning to keep it. We were loading both tires in my truck, when the salesman noticed about a 2" x 3" bubble on the inside of the Towmaster tire. We started looking closely and found about 5 or 6 more bubbles inside the tire of about the same size. You could easily push these down. I had never seen anything like this before, so I decided that the tire wasn't worth re-using. Has anyone experienced a similar situation with the inner liner separating from the tire cord? Makes us concerned about the other two Towmaster tires on the front axle now!

RE: Fire problems in Colorado

Just left Durango yesterday. There was a fire that just started the day before. I had ashes all over my truck yesterday morning and you could definitely smell the smoke.

RV Wash in Houston Area

This topic has come up before, but I can't seem to find any of the posts. Does anyone have recommendations regarding RV wash places in Houston area. I know on the east side there are several Blue Beacons that do a pretty good job, but there was one out around Brookshire which was be much easier and a whole lot of traffic less to get to. Any help would be appreciated.

Duraflex black tank valve

I have the belly cover off my of my 5er for other repair work, so I thought that I would replace the 4 year old Valterra valve which has been slightly leaking with a new one. Got the valve and was in a hurry to get back to my work at home and noticed that it was a Duraflex valve-same size, etc. which is suppose to be a direct replacement for the Valterra valve. Has anyone had any experience with this brand of valve? I am somewhat reluctant to install it since it would be a hassle later on to replace it. Any experience or info about this brand of valve would be helpful. Thanks.

RE: hub caps?

Four of my hub caps came off at various times on the road and were lost. I replaced the first one with a better plastic hub cap which locked on to the wheel. After losing the other three which came with my trailer, I took all of them off. Doesn't look quite as good, but it is better than replacing them all the time!
