RE: There is not many places like this left

Ah, reminds me of my childhood days in NW Ark (Fayetteville). :) Fished and floated many a river like that. Thanks for the neat reminder.

RE: Suggestion for CG in Dawson Creek, BC

I stayed at Mile 0 last July on my way to Alaska. Didn't check out any others. Below are the comments from my blog and a picture. You might also get some ideas for other stops from the 2012 blog of my AK trip . Have fun! :) 78 gravel sites on slightly sloping land, close together. Minimal trees. Free showers and dump station. Do your laundry here for much less than laundromat in town. Swimming lake a short walk. $32 (w/water & 20 amp). http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/RVJuly12%20130.jpg

RE: Exterior of camper "box" needs repair

Thanks for the ideas. I ended using a piece of 4" wide 3M non-skid material and some E6000 adhesive. Spread the adhesive over the existing covering, laid on the non-skid and then rolled it down good with a wooden roller. After I get back from 6 months of ramblin' and unload my camper, I'll find out if it held. :) http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/Camper%20168s.jpg

RE: kenai peninsula road construction 2013

Glad I was on the Kenai for 3 weeks last year. :)

Exterior of camper "box" needs repair

I noticed a tear in the covering of the exterior of my Lance 845 camper "box" (don't know what else to call it). The covering is rough with a lot of grit to it. Behind it is 1/8" plywood. Where the tear is, the plywood has started to delaminate. Not sure what caused the problem, but since it's exactly where my 2nd battery is (ahead of the driver's side wheel well), I think that is what caused it. Maybe just rubbing or some acid got on the covering. I was thinking of trying to find some similar thin covering and just epoxy a patch over the damaged area. Maybe also put epoxy in the area of the delaminating plywood. I'll be loading my camper in about a week for long term travel, so can't get too sophisticated about the fix. Plenty of other stuff to do, also. :) Any ideas or tips? http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/Camper%20165s.jpg http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/Camper%20166s.jpg Thanks,

RE: Replacing oven with cabinet?

Thanks for all the good (and speedy) ideas! I do use my oven now for storage, but would have more space with it out. I'd definitely keep the oven for when I sold my camper. Thanks, Ralph

Replacing oven with cabinet?

A few years back, I came across another TC owner who had replaced his oven with a cabinet. Of course, being a cabinet maker it was a natural. Anybody else done this? Would there be pre-made ones available that would fit? As I'm not a cook, I think I've used mine once in 7 years to make blueberry muffins. I'd give up the muffins for some extra storage. :) Thanks,

RE: Boondocking in Montana

I go to Dillon every summer to visit my cousin for a couple of weeks and fish. Done a lot of traveling in the area you are talking about in my camper. I usually stay in USFS campgrounds. I do remember one boondocking spot on the Flathead River, where Glacier NP is across the river. Here is a Google map. . I keep a very good website of my travels (see signature link). If you go to the Campsite Map page and look at all the separate year pages, you'll see every place I've camped. You might find a spot from there, although most are USFS campgrounds. However, USFS boondocking sites in the general area of the campgrounds are likely. The boondocking spot I mentioned above was on 8/5/09 and a picture is below. The mountain is in Glacier NP and the river is at the base of the mountain. My log says the road was very washboarded. Also not particularly private, since boaters/rafters launch there. Have fun. I'll be back in that area in August and I'll look for your Casita. :) http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/RVAug09%20054.jpg

RE: Broken shower P-trap in Lance camper

Thanks for all the useful info, especially the swivel (SW) part number from Jim! This forum is great. :) Mitch, I've thought about the rubber pipe option and agree it's much less likely to break. I'm surprised I traveled over 50K miles before it happened. :) Since I couldn't find all the parts at Home Depot today, I'm going to try and epoxy glue the shower end swivel connector that partially split apart. Doesn't take too much pressure to snug up the pipe so it won't leak. I think epoxy will do it. Meanwhile, I have an inquiry into Lance and now enough info to order separate parts if I need to build the assembly. It broke last year while traveling and I inserted a shim at the bottom of the trap that pushed the leaking end up snug enough to stop the leaking. Thanks again, Ralph

Broken shower P-trap in Lance camper

The threaded coupling connector at the shower end of the P-trap broke, so can't tighten up joint. I checked at the local RV place and online and don't see exactly what I need. Although, RV place had something exact size, but with slip joint connectors, not threaded. Hoping to get the complete P-trap with the connectors and proper vertical offset, so I don't have to build it with proper vertical spacing. Think that's possible? U shaped pipe is a Nibco 5895 and comes with the threaded coupling for the short end. If I have to buy separate parts, what is the threaded coupling on the long end called? http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/Camper%20154s.jpg Thanks,

RE: Eastern Oregon Forest Service Campground

Sometimes I take pictures of the campground in general. However, I looked back at my pictures from that place and didn't take any. Sounds like you already have "seen" the place via Google Maps. However, if you click on the American flag symbol for that campground in my blog, it will bring up Google Maps for the exact location. I've been all over Idaho from N to S and E to W in conjunction with my annual trip to Montana. Got close to you when I was going through Boise a few years back. Nice state. :) Ralph

RE: Eastern Oregon Forest Service Campground

I camped in that area in Sept, 2011 on my way back from Montana. Very scenic. I stayed at the exact campground you've asked about. Check out my 2011 RV Log for the date 9/19/11 for some pictures. Here are my comments: 13 gravel sites, plus some walk-in tent sites and horse camps, on level land. Lots of medium sized trees, but some sites get a lot of sun. Next to the currently low water North Fork John Day River (designated Wild & Scenic, but not very wild now). Yikes, got down to 26F at night! Where are the extra blankets? $8. My driving the last 2 days was on the beautiful Blue Mountain Scenic Byway (FR 053). It's an excellent paved road with little traffic Take it, you'll like it!. I can't remember the layout exactly, but if it is set up for horse camping, then it probably has decent maneuvering room. If you look at the pic of my site, it's plenty deep. I was traveling N to S on that nice hwy. Give the USFS a call for more info. Have fun, if you go. I've been to Stanley Lake, and that's not a back 2nd choice. :)

RE: Installing "lock" on water heater door?

Thanks. Just got back from my weekly lunch with my ex-Mechanical Engineer friend and he immediately saw the same solution. Guess that's why I became an Electrical Engineer. :) Not Mechanically Inclined Ralph

Installing "lock" on water heater door?

My old lock just keeps falling apart. The ring falls off because of wear. Bought a new one of the same type (see pics below). Now I'm wondering how to install it. Goes through a hole, so it has to be taken apart. The ring is held on 2 sides by the piece inside the spring. Since it's new, it doesn't come apart as easily as the old one. Is there some secret here, or do I have to force the ring out and put it back on once the rest of the gizmo is placed behind the mounting plate? http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/Camper%20151c.jpg http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/09213.JPG Thanks,

RE: Attaching things to camper interior walls?

In the bathroom (wet bath) I can't imagine suction cups would work for long but 3M does make some bathroom products too. I have 2 containers with suction cups in my bathroom. Even with a lot of bouncing around, they stay on. Might come loose once a year, and I do about 9K miles a year with my camper. I think I got them at Camping World.

RE: Taylor Hwy & Chicken

Last July I found the Canadian section of the TOW (Dawson to the border station) to be part paved and part gravel. The gravel was actually smoother driving, as the paved had many potholes. Great scenery!

RE: Questions about traveling to AK

I entered AK on July 18 last summer with my truck camper and left Juneau on Sept 14 on the ferry to Prince Rupert, BC. I rarely wore shorts, but I do feel cool when others feel warm. I'd guess the highest temperature I saw was 75F. Lowest was 20F one night towards the end of the trip near Tok, AK. Only saw significant sun about 1 out of 3 days. Definitely used my rain gear some. It was a great trip. I kept a good log of camping sites with GPS coordinates. See link below my signature. FYI, I was born and raised in Fayetteville, near you. Have fun on your trip,

RE: Senior Pass Question

I believe you have to go into a Govt facility that sells them (USFS office, National Park entrance, etc.) and buy it there. They check your ID at that time, so you'd need to be 62 when you apply. There is no form to fill out. Just give them $10. Enjoy it. It saves a lot of bucks!! :)

RE: Found & fixed leak in Airbag system

After I first had my air bags installed, I noticed one lost too much pressure over a few days Had a dealer try to find it twice. No luck. So, I replaced the bag, lines and valve on that side. Still have the same problem! Grrrrrr. Funny thing, it seems to lose air just as quick with my camper off. Will go from 15 psi to 0 in a week or so. I don't have an auto fill system, so OPs fix won't help.
