RE: Senior Pass Question

I believe you have to go into a Govt facility that sells them (USFS office, National Park entrance, etc.) and buy it there. They check your ID at that time, so you'd need to be 62 when you apply. There is no form to fill out. Just give them $10.
Enjoy it. It saves a lot of bucks!! :)

RE: Found & fixed leak in Airbag system

After I first had my air bags installed, I noticed one lost too much pressure over a few days Had a dealer try to find it twice. No luck. So, I replaced the bag, lines and valve on that side. Still have the same problem! Grrrrrr. Funny thing, it seems to lose air just as quick with my camper off. Will go from 15 psi to 0 in a week or so.
I don't have an auto fill system, so OPs fix won't help.

RE: ow do I light my '85 Lance water Heater?

I have the water heater shown in the first picture in my 2001 Lance 845. The pilot won't stay lighted when driving.
I've had to replace the thermocouple/pilot assembly a couple of times, when the pilot wouldn't stay on when turning the control to ON.

RE: 6.0 chev...2500hd...Anyone haul TC ...??

I've hauled my Lance 845 over 65K miles with my '06 GMC 2500HD 6.0 short bed w/o any problems. Get around 11 mpg long term average with camper on. My camper loaded for long term travel is right at the "official" weight limit of the truck.
Went 9200 mi to Alaska and back this summer w/no truck problems. Currently have about 104K miles on the truck.

RE: Bookmarks on line using Kindle Fire?

I did a bit more investigating:
a) Open a new tab with the "+" at the right side of the tabs bar and your bookmarks will appear. Tap on one to open it in the browser
or
b) At the bottom tap on the icon that looks somewhat like a vertical envelope (to the right of the one with the horizontal stripes). A list of your bookmarks will appear. They can be viewed either as a text list or a picture list by using the 2 icons at the upper right of the screen.
Now I know a bit more about my Fire, too.
My kids gave it to me for Father's Day. I wasn't sure I'd use it much, but I like it! :)
Have fun with it,
Ralph

RE: Bookmarks on line using Kindle Fire?

The only way I've found to do it is this:
- Clear all the tabs from the browser (the "x" on the right side of the tab) and then your bookmarks will appear.
Seems there should be another way that leaves the tabs open. Let me know if you find it. :)

Beautiful pics! Way more snow than when I passed through there the end of August, returning from AK trip.

RE: Idaho and Montana Fall trip

I usually travel from CA to MT every summer (except this one was to Alaska). Outside of the commercial RV parks, which I avoid, I've been to most of the places you mentioned! :) Beautiful country.
Glad you had a good trip!

RE: A camper window with a view-2

This is the great view I had from my campsite in a city campground in Seward, Alaska this summer. Many more pics from my trip on my website (see below).

RE: Garmin NUVI 1490

My gripe about the 1490 is that it is VERY flaky on the touch screen. Sometimes I have to leave my finger on a letter of the "keyboard" for a second or so for it to "take". Sometimes it will take a couple of seconds after that for the letter to show up in the text box. Same for selecting options.
This is my 4th Garmin. I've been happy with the others. However, I think someone in Garmin made a big mistake by releasing the 1490 for sale.

I stayed at Lac La Hache on the way up to Alaska. Might try it again, if it fits into my schedule.

RE: What to do/see around Prince Rupert?

Gary,
Wow, thanks very much for the offer!!
I spent last night at the Ferry Is. campground in Terrace. Currently at Safeway using their WiFi. Had to look up where Kitimat was and see I'm due N 50 "crow miles" or so. Will be leaving soon heading E about 120 miles to Smithers area . I really appreciate your hospitality offer, though.

RE: What to do/see around Prince Rupert?

Coincidentally, I ate at Breakers Pub Sunday night after arriving on the ferry from Juneau. Food (vegetable lasagne) was very good. Service a bit slow, but not terrible.
Had an excellent Eggs Benedict breakfast at the Crest Hotel this a.m. Great view of boat activity in the bay from there.
Was very sunny when I arrived Sunday afternoon and lasted through Monday afternoon, then clouds moved in. Rained a bit last night. Still overcast this a.m., but no rain.
I like it here in Prince Rupert. Went to the museum and walked around the waterfront area. Leaving this afternoon and will go by the old canning factory on the way out. Hoping not too many Provincial Parks are closed for the season in the next week of travel to the U.S. border. FYI, I just poke along about 150 mi per day. :)
Thanks for all the tips.

RE: Boondocking 395 near Mammoth Lakes?

Two years ago I stayed at a nice FS campground not far from Mammoth that was free. It's called Big Springs. Map is here.
Just north of there, on the other side of 395, is another one that was free at that time. Not sure of the name. Maybe Glass Creek or Hartley Springs.
Go to http://www.uscampgrounds.info/ and put "June Lake, CA" in the "Move map to" box at the lower left. Look for white diamond symbols which represent free or under $12.
My favorite recreational area of California!
Have fun,

RE: What to do/see around Prince Rupert?

Thanks for the tips. I doubt it will be raining anymore in Prince Rupert than here in Juneau, where it has every day for the last week. Currently in my camper in a parking lot with constant "pitter patter" sounds on my roof. :)

What to do/see around Prince Rupert?

Currently in Juneau, AK. Will take the Friday evening ferry to Prince Rupert and arrive Sunday evening.
Might spend 2 nights there. Anything of interest in the area? Already done the glacier boat tour and whale watching in Juneau.

RE: Ramblin' to Alaska

Currently in Haines, AK. Since my last major post in Tok, AK I've traveled through the Yukon and British Columbia to get back to Alaska. I wonder how many other places there are where you have to exit the state to get to another part of it?
Along that route I continued to see much beautiful scenery. Was surprised that the YT campgrounds were nowhere near full on Labour Day weekend. Had planned to stop at Congdon Creek campground on Kluane Lake, but it was closed due to bear activity. So, had to drive another 60 miles to one near Haines Junction, YT. Worked out OK as I got a nice spot with my back window looking towards the lake. Stayed 2 nights there. Sunday night I stayed at Million Dollar Falls campground (about 20% full). It's the last YT government campground before AK. On the way there, I checked out 2 other govt campgrounds and neither one was anywhere near full. One had only one site occupied.
Not far from Million Dollar Falls, I saw a grizzly walking alongside the road ahead of me. It looked back at me every now and then and ran a bit, but then went back to a walk. As I got close, it jumped into the bushes. Took the pic (below) through my windshield as I drove. My closest "bear encounter". :)
I missed the section of the Alaska Hwy between Whitehorse and Tok earlier, since I detoured via Dawson City. Coming to Haines I covered some of the missed section, between Tok and Haines Junction. I'd read it was the worst part of the hwy and I concur. Not terrible, but lots of frost heave. Also more pot holes than I remember on the rest of the hwy. Just have to drive slower and be alert for the pot holes.
Was very cloudy here in Haines yesterday, but have some sun today. Yea! Definitely on the breezy side, though. Last night I stayed at the nice Chilkat state campground. However, the dirt road to get into the park is absolutely the worst potholed campground road I've been on the whole trip (and there are many in AK). Impossible to avoid the potholes, so you're rockin' and rollin'. :)
I catch the ferry to Juneau on Thursday to meet my son for 4 days, then on to Prince Rupert a few days later. Then "only" about 2K miles back to Napa, CA. At least I save 500 miles of driving by taking the ferry. If gas was about $20 a gallon, I'd break even. :)
FYI, I just updated my website through the Million Dollar Falls.
