RE: Campground advice near San Diego

Thanks for all the helpful replies. From what i can tell my 40ft MH is too large for the state parks near the beach. So other than the private parks mentioned, it seems Santee lakes would be the only option, right?.

Campground advice near San Diego

Is there a state park in or near San Diego for a 40 ft MH? If not please recommend a reasonable one near Sea World or the zoo.

RE: Looking info on Crater lake

We have decided it is a little too cold for us to enjoy it at this time so we have moved further south to the Redwood area on the coast of northern CA. Thanks for the input.

Looking info on Crater lake

Will the National Park at Crater Lake accomodate a 40ft RV? (I could no find that info on their web site). If not please recommend a camp ground near by. Any other info on things to do or see there would also be appreciated.

North Cascades recommendations

Is there camping inisde the park for a 40ft MH? I noticed that it said on the parks site that "dogs are not allowed in the park". Does that mean that you can not even take the dog and leave it in the RV? My children are under 10 years old. Are there some short hikes you could recommend?

RE: Advice for N Cascades and Olympic

Lots to see and do.
Seattle/Everett...the Boeing Company tour is fantastic as is the Air and Space Museum at Boeing Field. There is the Pike Street Market and you can tour the stadium where the Seattle Mariners play.
Heading down the coast, the pools at Sol Duc and there is a rough campground right next to the pools. We always spend 2 nights at Lake Quinault for hiking and golf of dinner at the lodge.
Long Beach Washington is very nice for toursity sorts of things.
Down the Oregon Coast...too much to describe...my favorite is at least one night in Tillamook for the creamery. Lots of Light houses.
Beautiful scenery.
Thanks for the great ideas. Do you have an opinion on the the two parks mentioned above?

Advice for N Cascades and Olympic

We had a great time at Yellowstone, Tetons and Glacier and are now in Spokane heading West. We are trying to decide where to go next. We are thinking about going to the N cascades then Olympic and heading down the west coast as it gets cooler. If you have been to those parks do you recommend them? If so what about campgrounds? Are the campgrounds nice inside the parks (we have a 40ft MH). Besides these two parks are there another "must see" places between Spokane and the coast?
THANKS in advance.

RE: Glacier NP

Thanks for the post. Just to clarify, I made a mistake in my original post. We will be coming in from the west.

RE: West Glacier Campground Recommendations

Thanks for all your help. I think we'll try to get into Aspar in the morning. If we can't, you've provided me with some great campgrounds. I've looked at most of them on the web and the 3 or 4 that have been recommended look great.
We're at East Glacier KOA and for the price ($53 per night), I am very disappointed. I have my front wheels off the ground to get leveled, and this morning when I got up, I had three loose dogs on my site and I had to clean up after two of them.
We are headed that way tomorrow and we were hoping to stay at Apgar as well (with out reservations). Do you think it will be hard to get a site?

Glacier NP

We will be entering Glacier from the east and will probably stay the first night at Apgar. Is the park large enough to need to move base camp or can we see the "main" sites by just using one base camp (Apgar). If you think we should move, please recommend a second one. Thanks!

Looking for advice for Glacier

I will be going to Glacier for the first time in the next few days and do not have CG reservations yet. Do you think i will need them this time of year. Can you recommend any "kid friendly parks" near there or are there other things that you can recommend we see or do? (Kids are 5, 7, 10)

thanks, i think we will do it and just take it easy. Sounds like a better option then driving the long way around.

RE: Electrical problem with coffee maker

Have you checked you plug for loose wire/polarity?
No, not sure how to do that. Although we have plugged other things into it without a problem (although maybe that is not a good idea until it is fixed)

RE: to tv or not to tv

We are on a three month trip and have decided not to use the TV. There is so much to do and see and so much on TV is worthless these days. Go without the TV. If we want news or weather it is available on the computer (we have a wireless verizon card that has worked well).

Electrical problem with coffee maker

One morning when making coffee we smelled that "burnt electical smell" and realized we had fried the coffee maker. I assumed it was a defective coffee maker so i bought another one and same thing happened. Note that it was plugged into a GFI outlet if that makes any difference and once it happened when using 30 amp and once with 50.

Anyone traveled from Yellowstone to the Grand Tetons lately?

I need to decide tomorrow whether to go through the construction at the south of YS heading to the Tetons. I have spoken to two different people who went through it about two weeks ago and they advised not to go through because there was so much vibration that they thought something would be damaged. I was wondering if anyone has gone through in their RV in the last week and could tell me if it has improved at all.

Driving from Yellowstone to the Grand Tetons

We will be driving from YS and some have said the construction from the south exit of YS to GT is so bad we should avoid it. So i was thinking about driving around and going through Idaho but someone else said I would encounter a very step grade on that road (14%) and recommended taking the road from the south exit of YS and going slow over the bad construction because it is so much shorter. Has anyone driven either road that can give me their opinions?
I have not had this MH for long and have not encountered any very steep grades. I have a a 40ft diesel with 6 speed allison so I thought the air brake would slow it down. Should i keep it in auto or manually downshift?

Thanks for all he great replies. We were able to get reservations at CB for 4 days next week. Next question...
