RE: Setting the time on dash radio - 2008 Monaco

Try the following: 1. Push and hold the "Display" button until the clock is flashing in the display. 2. Rotate the "Tune" knob to the left to adjust the minutes. 3. Rotate the "Tune" knob to the right to adjust the hours. NOTE the AM/PM indicator. 4. When correct time displays, wait a few seconds to allow the time to program. Hope this helps. Ray

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

If Wal-Mart charged a fee to overnight who would pay ? I would -$10.00 for a few ZZZ's and quik off and on the road ? I would be all over it. I would gladly pay $10 and most likely up to $20 just for the convenience. So, as I have always said, with me it is NOT about the money; it's about location and convenience. Ray

RE: Warped Attitude

I didn't realize that when I joined the forum that I was required to answer each and every OP's question whether or not that I knew the answer. If I think I can provide valuable information, then I respond. I do not give useless answers just to be answering. Ray

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

WalMart's property, Walmart rules. If the City has rules prohibiting overnight parking, so be it. Life is full of rules and as we travel we run into more and more rules or laws that are not what we are used to in other places. My choice is to travel where I want to. I go to the places where I feel appreciated and to avoid those places that enact rules/laws that I do not agree with. That is why I have a Class A. It has a motor and can go to another location. X2 Exactly! Ray

RE: Remove love bugs after they have been on for a while

I use a product called Bug Off in a plastic spray bottle. It is the best product I have ever used and I am not a young man. Wishing you the best. Ray

RE: windshild problem

How far are you from Eugene, OR? RV Glass Solutions replaced my large, one-piece windshield and gasket in 2010. No further problems. The windshield was cracked by another windshield repair facility when they attempted to replace the gasket that had become dislodged. RV Glass Solutions only handle glass problems; they do not perform any other RV services. Call and ask for Dave Beaty. 541-556-0857 Wishing you the best. Ray

RE: Ground Bees

I think you may be referring to mud wasps. They burrow into the ground looking for grub worms. Fortunately, I do not get many because I treat my lawn for grub worms. for the few that I do see, I use wasp and hornet spray to kill them.

RE: Our 23 year old daughter committed suicide 4-11-13

I just prayed for you and your family. I prayed that God would give you grace and comfort during this heartbreaking time. May you look to God to ease your pain. We can never fully understand why things like this happen. We just have to keep our faith in God knowing that He is in control and that He still loves us. Ray

RE: Any good timers for turning on-off lamps when away?

I use timers manufactured by Intermatic Corp, model DT27. They can be programmed for several on/off times each day or can be set for random. They are not the easiest to setup, but they are very good quality. Then again, I am not the most techy. Also, they use a small battery that powers the timer portion; in the event there is a power outage, when the power is restored, the timers still work as they were programed. Sorry I do not remember where I purchased the timers. Ray

RE: Low air flow on floor ducted furnace

A couple of questions: 1. How long have you noticed the low air flow? Has it always been this way? 2. Are you running off the batteries or are you on shore power? A 12 volt DC motor will slow down (low rpm's) as the battery voltage is decreased. Ray

RE: Camping locally on weekends & late checkouts

Check out time means check out then. Just because you think nobody is waiting for that spot doesn't mean that is really the case. I've been on the other side of this issue. I like to head out camping on Sundays because there are fewer people and you can generally get a better spot. More than once I've had to sit around waiting for someone to leave a site because they stayed past their checkout. Now, I'll go up and let them know that I'm waiting, but there may be others that are reluctant to be confrontational about it. I fully agree. But I have also experienced when the next person that has reserved the site on which I am comping comes in at 9:00 or 10:00 AM and expects me top hurry up and leave prior to checkout time. I kindly tell them that I will be out by the checkout time and I suggest that they either temporarily park in an unoccupied site or park in an overflow lot. Just because they get there well before checkout is NOT my problem. Ray

RE: Oil Change - Ford V10

I think that was an excellent price. I would not even think about doing it myself for that price. Thanks for sharing. Ray

RE: Horse skirt really need it???

Lots of tow miles with only mud flaps at both rear tires. I've been towing over 10 years and no dings, dents or chipped glass. We do run 95% paved roads. X2 If I were to buy extra protection, I would purchase the Protect-a-Tow that attaches below the tow bars. If you drive mostly on paved roads, I would just opt for the rear wheel mudflaps. Ray

RE: Struts to hold bed up for storage

Mine never worked well either, especially after we added a nicer mattress. Initially, I just made a metal swing down support that locked into place. A few years later, I got motivated and made a cross support with two shocks on both sides. The bed now lifts easily and stays up. http://www.irv2.com/attachments/photopost/data/500/0034.jpg http://www.irv2.com/attachments/photopost/data/500/0073.jpg http://www.irv2.com/attachments/photopost/data/500/0042.jpg Nice job! Looks like something I would design. Thanks for sharing the pics. Ray

RE: GPS - Rand McNally v Magellan

why not a garmin? bumpy X2 We have had 2 Garmin's over the past 10 years. Both performed very well. Got a new one basically because of the cost to update the older unit. The new unit has lifetime free updates; a very nice feature. The GPS is only as good as the latest update. Whatever you decide to buy, I wish you the best. Ray

RE: Are Camp Grounds Really that Safe?

In my years, I've never had an issue. But we always stay at the better parks.....maybe that is why there are "class A" parks only:). We did stay at one park several years ago that had many more permanent residents than visitors. Even though we prepaid for 4 days, we left as early as possible the morning after our arrival. That experience taught me, no pics, no reviews or a decent website will never get my business again. Hhg Well I guess you will never have to worry about me parking next to you. We normally do NOT "stay at the better parks". Also, we have never stayed at a "class A" park only even though we do have a class A. Back to the OP: We have never felt unsafe in any type of campground or RV park. We have stayed in private parks, state, national and local parks, in BLM, fairgrounds and national forests. Did feel a little threatened twice while overnighting in a shopping center parking lot in Kentucky and in Columbus, Ohio. Everything worked out well. I have a keen sense of assessing whether a place is safe or not. If in doubt, we move on. Ray

RE: How to remove stuck screws to repair water pump?

An E-Z Out will not work on this small of a screw. Sears used to sell a set of Craftsman drill bits made especially for backing out screws with stripped heads. They came in a small plastic storage case, 3 or 4 to a set in a variety of sizes to fit different size screw heads. I used mine a couple of times and they worked good. Ray

RE: Watch the Guy Filling Your Tires!

Years ago I was walking through a Sears automotive service area on my way into the tool department. I stopped, peering over the wall that separated the service area and the store's entryway. I watched as a mechanic (technician)told the service manager that they did not have the correct filter for the vehicle on which the mechanic was performing an oil change. The mechanic then proceeded to wash the old filter out with solvent and reinstalled the old filter without allowing all the solvent to drain from the filter. A little bit later, the service manager returned and told the mechanic that he had found a filter that was not the correct filter but for the mechanic to see if it would fit. No incorrect filter was installed on the vehicle. I do not know the final outcome of having the wrong filter installed. This incident just reinforced my previous decision not use places like Sears and Walmart. Ray

RE: Watch the Guy Filling Your Tires!

That's just one reason I have my own compressor and air my tires early am. X2 Plus I also spent the money to buy a good quality, precision, digital air-pressure gauge. This past Christmas I also purchased the same air pressure gauge for my two sons knowing that they would not put out the money for an expensive gauge. Ray

RE: Bad Weather while Traveling...

Find a safe place to pull over and hunker down until the storm passes. Hopefully, your MH is self-sufficient enough that you could wait out the storm for even a few days; I know we could normally wait at least 2 or 3 days. During bad weather we try to keep our water, fuel supply and propane at or above 1/2 full and keep our holding tanks below 1/2 full. I always believe in the power of prayer. God bless you and may He keep you safe in your travels. Ray
