RE: Adopted Dogs ....

My adopted dog is ungrateful too. All he does all day is tell me what he needs. He never does anything for me! :)

RE: hints and/or tips on purchasing used travel trailer

Go looking the day after a heavy drenching rain. Touch every square inch looking for moisture. If I had done that, I might have avoided buying my leaky camper.

RE: Cast your vote for the WORST customer service

Comcast. I don't care if they changed their name to Xfinity, they are still Comcast and they still stink. They gave me horrible service and lied to me, telling me I had never called to complain so I couldn't get reimbursed for all the time my service was down when I had actually called several times a week. They also made up crazy reasons for why my internet wouldn't work, not realizing I have a computer science BS and MS and knew that their explanations were impossible lies.
Of course, DirectTV kept me waiting 8 hours on a Saturday for the service tech who was coming out to correct the original install that was wrong, so they aren't much better. But at least they don't lie to me.

RE: Why do some folks trash their RV's?

Some people just don't see it.
I'm meticulous about cleaning, but my partner is the opposite. Our cars are the same age and mine looks showroom new and hers looks 10 years older. I walk into the house and notice every speck of dust and each thing that is out of place but she wouldn't notice a sinkhole if it opened up in the living room. I've known people all over the spectrum, but I really think, for some, they just don't see dirt or damage or mess.

RE: Stolen power cord

When I lived in Baltimore City, I woke up one morning to a loud banging. Looked outside, and a guy with a shopping cart was ripping the siding off my house!! The next place I rented was vacant for all of a few days before I moved in and in that short time, thieves stole the furnace and all the ductwork from the basement.
I live in the country now. :) We still have junkie thieves, but not quite as many.
Sorry about your cord. That stuff really makes me angry.

RE: Remodel--New interior look for less than $250

I love it.
I'm in the process of repainting my entire trailer - including the cabinets. Once I'm finished I don't think a speck of the old 'decor' will remain.
One of the reasons I got an older camper was because I knew if I got a newer one, I'd still want to rip out and redo everything, so why pay for new? We went to an RV show recently and it just reinforced to me that I'm going to just keep this old trailer until I've retired and finally gotten my Class B.

RE: Is Everyone Retired ?

Not me. I'm posting from one of a gazillion cube farms of the world and will be doing so for many years into the future.
Me too- I've got 30 more years in a box to look forward to. Except I'll be laid off here soon. Sigh. At least the camper is paid for if things get bleak. :)

RE: Stink Bug Eradication

We had quite a few four or five years ago here in Tn.
I don't think I saw any this year. We had three small flocks of little birds this spring that cleaned up all the ticks maybe they are getting them?
Does anything eat them?
My dog and cat both tried one and rejected them from there on out, but I've yet to find one in my chicken coop.
So, I think my chickens must eat them, because the coop is warm and stinkbugs love warm places - so there isn't any reason why there shouldn't be stinkbugs in there unless the girls are chompin' them.
OP, put a chicken in your rig!

RE: Stink Bug Eradication

Ugh. These are the bane of my existence and they're costing me money. A few years ago, I could leave windows open and save money by not using my heat or A/C for a few months out of the year - I opened the windows or used the house fan.
Not anymore- because there are stinkbugs trying to get in to every single window. They cluster on the doors and come in with us. I've put more weatherstripping around all the windows, but they come into the attic and then enter through the house fan or the attic stairs.
They're SO foul-smelling. And they suck at flying so they whack into you pretty often, leaving a stinky spot.
The only pesticides they sell near me so far are contact only- you have to spray the bugs with them, there aren't any repellants. I don't see the point in using that type of bugkiller when I don't need to use chemicals. So, every day or so, I put on vinyl gloves, collect them in a bottle, and chuck the bottle. I don't know how people stand vacuuming them- I've done that on dead ones by accident a few times and had to clean the vacuum and suck up coffee grounds afterward to get rid of the stench.
These things are really making me miserable in MD.

RE: How come I can't have a dog that eats whatever ...

My last dog was a bones and skin stray with a stomach of steel and no allergies or skin issues- but she was finicky about food and I had to tell her to eat or she'd just leave food in the bowl for days.
My current dog was also a bony stray, but he'll eat until he explodes. The world is made up of only three things to him: me, food, and not food. There's never even food dust left near his bowl. Unfortunately, he does have allergies and crummy skin and despite being happy to eat anything, he has to be on a very carefully controlled (and expensive) diet.
Sigh.

RE: What inspired you to start RVing?

I camped a lot growing up because my father owned a dealership. It was some of the most fun I had as a kid.
As an adult, just after booking a vacation at hundreds of dollars a night to stay somewhere of questionable cleanliness, I decided I wanted to tote my hotel room with me.
A few months later, I owned my first used travel trailer. Unfortunately, I've yet to camp in it!

RE: Lyme Disease Vaccine

Both my dogs were vaccinated, both had prescription flea/tick control, and both contracted the disease anyway.
The vaccine maker paid for the treatment for the second dog because I could prove he was negative, vaccinated, and later positive. He's still testing weakly positive a year later.
I live in deep woods in a very tick infested area. Even with preventive drops, the vaccine, and a watchful eye, they both got it.
I don't recall either dog reacting badly to the vaccine- but the girl (now deceased) weighed about 50 pounds and the male (still kicking) weighs 70 and neither ever was particularly sensitive.

RE: My first ever pocket radio

I bought a Sangean radio earlier this year to use in my garage - I live in an area with poor reception. That little radio gets great reception, and the AM stations sound as if the sports announcers are in the garage with me.
I hadn't heard of Sangean until I started researching radios with good reception, and now I'm a convert. I bet your little radio works well.

RE: Halloween Camping...

It really was amazing - magic for a kid. I usually took a school friend with me and they were always blown away by what a great job the campground did and how much loot we came home with. And, since the weekend was usually held the week before Halloween, we still got to do trick or treating at home too and my grandparents still got to see my costume.
My mom liked it because we made it to a hundred sites without trekking for miles and there was little to no traffic during trick or treating hours and it just felt safer all around.
(I think we usually went to Granite Hill or Morris Meadows- now Merry Meadows, in PA, but this was more than 20 years ago.)

I have this problem. Cookbooks on my Kindle are too difficult to use and navigate. I'm sure there are some out there with good formatting and navigation, but I mostly just get irritated with the ones I have and end up deleting them.

RE: Halloween Camping...

My absolute favorite camping weekend growing up was Halloween. My dad took us to a campground with decorating contests, costume contents, pumpkin carving, and trick or treating. I still remember getting not 1, not 2, but 3 big bags of candy when I went around to all the sites. And it was so fun as a kid to see some of the amazing decorating jobs. It is still one of my favorite childhood memories, and I'm in my thirties now.
I don't have kids, but I do have nieces and nephews, and I plan to take them with me around Halloween once they're a little older. And when they're too old for it, I'll be one of the folks over-decorating and handing out candy.
