RE: CRAZY 5th wheeler

You guys can rant all you want but your wrong !. If you have a problem with speeders then start writing to your city, county and state representatives. What the speeders are doing is of no concern to you guys and now i can see why road rage gets started. I don't like it either and I see traffic on 635N in Dallas going 15 mph over the speed limit every time I have to go to Dallas. The part that gets me is look at all the revenue that could be collected if they enforced the speed limit but I don't see that coming anytime soon.
On the news the other day I saw where they stopped a person doing 150 mph.
I'm done now.

RE: A *TIRES* compliment !!

All I can say is it was written by a gentleman named Chris. :)
* edit for one paragraph from the article *
So are ST tires your only choice ? Not at all. It is possible, and practical, to use automotive light-truck (LT) radial tires on your trailer, provided you keep the load rating in mind. LT tires are also designed for heavy-duty use on pickups and such, and are fine alternatives to ST tires. ?If you get a flat that destroys a tire in such that it can't be repaired, make sure that the replacement tire is the same design (whether it be ST or LT, for example) and size as the original, and has a load rating that matches or excedes the rating that
of your original tires.
*end*
The article is called Trailer Tires 101 starting on page 39.

RE: Air pressure on my 5th wheel?

Inflate them to max psi and don't worry about them wearing out prematurely.

I called the manufacture and spoke to a tech,he said they get calls about it every once in awhile but he assured me it was normal.

RE: Lights Going Bright

I experienced the same thing and was told it was normal. When the lights get bright it is putting more charge to the batteries to burn the sulfide off the plates. You will see the lights brighten the same time daily almost every day.

RE: Lippert frame "weld" problems

It could be the cheap steel or maybe the spool of wire on the welders and I am sure they use wire-feed welders.I'm not a welder but I have seen a lot of pretty welds that wouldn't hold squat.

RE: jerking and clunking

Another thing I was told,my truck brakes were doing more stopping than the trailer brakes. When I stop the pin is all the way forward in the jaws so when I take off the pin moves to the rear of the jaws and that is causing the clunk.By adjusting the controller to add a little more trailer brakes I can eliminate that clunk. This was told to me by a Husky rep.

RE: U.S. Federal Testing Standards for ST and LT Tires

I called about tires for the 5'er and told the guy I had ST tires and even tho I havn't had any trouble with them i wanted to replace them before I did.Care to guess which ones he recommended ?,Goodyear but he really preferred Michelin XP RIBS.Care to guess which one i went with ?,Michelin XP Ribs and metal valve stems. :)
But did'nt your Bighorn come with ST235/80R16E tires on it?
FastEagle
If you had read the first sentence you would of seen what tires it has. What do you do go thru every post and pick it apart ?.Reread it then get back to me if you want but it really isn't neccessary. I could of told the factory to put on LT Goodyear G614's or the XP Ribs and paid the difference but i didn't.All the factory would have had to do is change that dreaded little sticker you talk about. If more people would read about tires before they bought their campers then they wouldn't have to worry about which tires were better. As a matter of fact they could enjoy traveling a lot more than changing tires on the side of the road THEN find rv.net and ask I just had a blowout and what tires does everybody think i should buy for my rig. I just tore the side off my camper and ... you get my point.

RE: Removing bunk beds for office space???

You can do pretty much anything you want to it, and if you are handy enough to build a desk to put in its place of the bunk, then go right ahead. I have seen campers with a desk or work area and I always thing that is a good idea.
Like we were told,it's ours so change it like we wanted it.

RE: NOT GUILTY! Jury sides with Gulf Stream in formaldehyde suit

It's amazing how those people were left homeless then tried to make them pay for their free housing.Granted it wasn't a Hilton but it was a place to live.
I guess one juror was right when they said " the plaintiffs' attorneys never had the "smoking gun" that proved their case.

RE: U.S. Federal Testing Standards for ST and LT Tires

Where is the test where the 80 psi tire sits in the sun motionless for six months at 50 psi under full load and then is aired up and run out at 70 mph in 110F heat and the pavement is way hotter. :)
You will never see any tests that you mentioned above and that's a darn shame. The gov. won't do tests that should duplicate a real tire situation mainly due to many tire failures to the chinese tires!.

RE: update on wrecked fifth wheel and need opinions

I will only add this. When or if you do contact an attorney then the communication line will be lost between you and FR.Don't expect to be welcomed with open arms or even a telephone call will get you "he isn't in but you can leave your name and number and he will call you back" but he probably won't.
What i'm saying is something needs to be done but it's your responsibility to do what you think is right.Discuss all options with your wife and both of you decide what you want to do.Don't get me wrong i'm on your side but i think they will try to fix it and it's your decision. One other option is let them fix it then trade it for another brand.
Happy camping

RE: Which brand replacement tire?

Another nice thing about the G614 is it's diameter, Almost the same as the ST235/80R16E. Once Goodyear perfects the compounds used for the G614 I think because of it's size and strength it will dominate the heavy 5th wheel market.
Strictly a muse - I'm wondering because of it's design and shallow tread depth if they will be forced to change it's designation to ST.
FastEagle
I wouldn't worry too much about that shallow tread as most tires wear out before the tread is gone. I don't think i have ever seen a slick tire on campers unless the tread has been slung off but that isn't ordinary tire wear.Goodyear is a very responsible tire company as they will pay for damage if it is caused by one of their tire failures.Seems they do that with no questions asked as long as the tire is under warranty.

RE: Keystone and Hartland Owners

On the other hand I took delivery of my Heartland Bighorn in Dec. 2007 and problems have been minimal, in fact no more that those I experienced with my 2004 Keystone Cougar. However the customer service/Customer support I received from Heartland has been outstanding, can't say the same for Keystone. What ever you buy factory and dealer support are very important, many will tell you that a poor dealer can ruin the entire experience.
Would I buy another Heartland, in a heart beat.
We have had our 08 Bighorn since November 07 and real happy with it.We are not full timers but we spend a lot of time in it.
I think countryrose says it all and some people have had problems but if you own one they will all have some problems ,big or small.

RE: Understanding tires Part Two.

towman58, I agree with JIMLIN on lowering the pressure on the rear tires.Since you are wearing out the center that alone says you are running too much pressure in them.Maybe you could put more weight on them by adjusting the hitch settings or rotate the tires more often.
