RE: Rebuild frame do to rust?

Look for a donor revcon. There may be one in worse shape than yours. Buy it, and salvage everything you can, and your mh will be set for years to come. Good Luck, Bill

RE: where is converter

Converter = 120 volt management and down volting from 120 to 12V. Inverter = 12 volt to 120v. Usually an added component (non-stock on most low end and med level coaches) 1. I would check all the breakers on the electrical distribution center. 2. I would check the breakers on the generator (multiple configs, sometimes one 15 amp and one 30 amp, sometimes one 10 amp and one 15 amp) 3. Check all 12 volt fuses in the distribution center. I hope this helps once you find the converter and electrical distribution center. Bill

RE: New Format

Looks like the navigation is fixed now. My thanks to those who worked to make the fix. We are fast to complain, and never thank when things come through. I recognize the effort and say thanks! Bill

RE: Niland on the Slabs

Ok, instead of questioning what forum it should be on or whatever....my major issue... I'm am assuming this Niland and Slabs are places...could you please say where in the would they are just to satisfy curiosity? Most Rvers post a name and assume everyone here knows absolutely everywhere in the country. Just a hint please.... Slabs are in Salton Sea, CA... Link... Bill

RE: First year for 362 hp V10?

There was no 2005 F53 Chassis as it were. Ford jumped from 2004 to 2006, so, the 362 HP V10 was available sometime in 2005. I am not sure what that cutoff was between the 04 and 06. I want to say late Aug or early Sept of 05 is when they first started showing up. I bought mine in April 06 and have the 362 HP V10, and love it. Ours is on a 26k GCWR chassis. Bill

RE: New Format

Lame. The less convenient it is to use, the fewer people will use the site and look at the advertisements. Why would Affinity do something that would cut viewers of paid ads? I have to agree. I understand the motivation behind the change, but please realize that you will have a net loss if things don't get fixed soon. My biggest gripe is that on some pages there are page navigators at both top and bottom, while on others only at the top. This is inconvenient, and my biggest gripe. Fix that and you make at least one viewer happy. Bill

RE: Vista / Wireless Connectivity

One of the issues to consider is driver issue with the hardware. I have a new HP with the Intel 5100AGN wireless card and Vista. The first week was painfull with connection interrupts minutes apart. Check into driver issues in Vista for your specific hardware platform. After downloading the latest driver from Intel, my connections are rock solid... Good Luck

RE: GENERATOR-Running FUNdamentals

My batts are in the on position 99% of the time. The only time I would turn the batts off is if I were storing the MH for an extended period of time. Turn batts off to eliminate any parasitic drain. Only did that once for four months. Bill Bill... OK... I was told the same thing... Turn them off IF you are going to put it in storage for an extended period of time.. I guess my problem is "Extended" period of time... Since we are NEWBIES we pretty much get on the road based on the WEATHER here in NC.. In the upcoming next few weeks we will be going on the road to CHARLOTTE, NC.. approx 120 miles from home base.. The week BEFORE thanksgiving.. Right NOW the batteries are in the OFF position in storage.. Thank you!... Fair enough... Long term storage to us consists of no touch for a minimum of four months or more. Most of the our Mh sits in the driveway plugged in ready to go. We are less weather constrained. Several people have provided great information on the different types of charging, so I won't go into that. Get a good charge wizard and keep it plugged in (what we do). If that is not possible, put to off position, or take batts out and put on a charger. Good Luck, and congrats on your MH! Bill

RE: Head Scratcher: Non-functional Wi-Fi

Several things to check besides the obvious: 1. Is WIFI turned on (I am sure it is) 2. Competing Anti-Virus programs and Firewalls can cause connectivity issues with WiFi 3. Verify the securty settings match the requirements of the network you are trying to attach to (sometimes they get changed or deleted inadvertently 4. Windows Update sometimes replaces drivers that cause issues 5. If it it is a newer Dell, check for hardware issues. Intel 5100AGN WiFi card has Vista connectivity issues Good Luck! Bill

RE: Mini Lap tops

I have an HP Mini 1000 netbook. It has a 16 gig SSD, and I have installed an 8 gig usb drive for 24 gig total. I have office 2007 installed and a few other apps, and still have about 9 gigs free on the SSD, and I use the 8 gig usb for docs. You can indeed get netbooks with Windows (mine has Win XP), and you can load/install your own software. These things are perfect for word processing, web surfing and e-mail. My 3 cell battery lasts about 4 hours give or take. Bill

RE: Erratic coolant temp gauge on F53, V-10

Same thing happened to me numerous times. Finally Ford issued a recall on the crossover pipe. Contact your Ford Truck Service Center, they should have all the information.Ford has a new and improved crossover pipe that they will replace your old one with. For me there was no charge.Ford was great to work with! No problems since then. You hit the nail on the head, this reeks of the Ford False Overheat. TSB 06-21-15 Let me know and I will send you the PDF with the info. Basically they replace the crossover tube and thermostat. The dealer did mine under warranty in Jan of this year. Bill

RE: Hard Wire Install 1800 Watt Inverter with transfer switch

OK, system is in! Seems to work fine. I had no choice but to use 8 feet of 2/0 AWG stranded copper cable since my battery box is on the opposite side of the coach and there nis no storage on that side. Since I have wired into the existing 15 amp circuit on the Xantrex I should be fine since I will likely never draw that much power. I wish the negative cable was about 8 inches longer so I can place the inverter in a better location. The combination of Inverter-->Perko ON/OFF switch-->Class T fuse block-->cable to battery is MUCH longer than I expected and there is no good way that I could find of making it shorter. So the negative cable needs to be longer to make up for that length. Didn't think of that when I designed the cable runs. You can always make a cable shorter, but never longer! The system works perfectly. The only glitch I had, the 18 year old GFCI dual outlet in the galley would pop after 5 or 6 seconds. I used the leftover one from the inverter and all is well now. I prefer low voltage 12v wiring to AC and big DC anyday. Thanks for all your help. Rick Pictures! We need Pictures! Congrats on the install! Bill

RE: E85 by mistake

Driving for one tank will not hurt it, especially if you fill at regular intervals to constantly dilute it. As I said, one tank will not hurt it. Bill

RE: They want an offer!!!!!

The difference is in which party is motivated. Buy when you need it and always pay a premium. Buy when they need it and buy at a discount. RVs are depreciating items and offers for them should reflect that. If the bank is upside down on a depreciating item, any delay in selling it is brings a larger loss. It doesn't take long sitting in a lot for any deal to be overpriced. Dealers (and banks) know this and price accordingly (including wholesaleing at auction.) The question is how long is a reasonable time to try to retail the item. I vote for undershooting the first offer by 25%. If they are serious they will sell or counter. Les Good Advice, I second. Just make sure you understand the true condition of the MH before you commit. Bill

RE: Hybrid motor home in the works, can't wait

something i've been writing to auto companies about, for years. build a electric drive unit and use batteries and a diesel or natural gas/propane generator, to power it. glad to see someone is actually going to do it. if i was interested in a motor home, i would get my pre-sales order in. right away, as demand will be high. cc You are right, and that is how our trains work. That big diesel motor provides the electrical power to run the electric engine. The electric engine is what moves the train. This is the most efficient way to do it (at least with today's technology) Bill

RE: Smelly RV

Since this is a rented MH, I would not recommend putting any money into it as you will not get reimbursed. Make sure you drain the black and grey tanks after each stay, and depending on how long you are in each location, maybe more often and use lots of sanitizing chemicals to minimize smell. Do a good tank flush when you are at one of your locations, and make sure you fill the black tank with lots of water during the flush procedure. When you use the toilet, make sure you use lots of water to prevent the infamous poop mountain in the tank. (If not enough water is used, the poop will stack up on the tank, and become very difficult to eliminate from the tank) Make sure you keep the toilet cover down, bathroom vent open. Make sure when not in use, all the sink and shower/tub plugs are in place. This may not correct the fundamental problem, but should minimize the effects of them. Good Luck on your trip Bill
